Dear Joanne:
Please accept my condolences on the loss of your friend.
Thank you for posting a reply, even at this late date. Your reply has added a “secondary” reason for my original post – alerting long lost friends.
My primary purpose was to preserve obituaries for future descendents who might become “the family genealogist”. I’m sad to report that Rosina’s obituary was one of the last I ever posted here on the surname message boards because the newspaper asked me to discontinue the project. And most newspapers use an obituary service that only archives the notices for 365 days.

Sincerely,
Glenn

I knew Rosina well when she lived in New Jersey. I just
found out after ten years that she has passed away. I was
trying to locate her. Rosina I remember the laughs we
used to have. You were a good friend. I'll see you
someday. Love, Joanne

I would like to trace relatives of Rudolph Kraus from Austria. Rudolph ('Rudi') emmigrated to London, UK, prior to 1950, where he married a German lady called Edith. They were both Jewish and lived in the Golders Green area of London until Rudi died in 1977. When Rudi arrived in the UK his surname changed to Cross. We know that he worked as a travelling wholesale toys salesman in the English midlands.

Rudi had no relatives in the UK (his wife Edith died in 2007) but we hope he has relatives in Austria. We would be most grateful if any one with information would get in touch.

Very many thanks.

KRAUS, RICHARD EDWARD; Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient WW II

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

KRAUS, RICHARD EDWARD

Rank and organization: Private First Class, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Born: 24 November 1925, Chicago, Ill. Accredited to: Minnesota. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving with the 8th Amphibious Tractor Battalion, Fleet Marine Force, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Peleliu, Palau Islands, on 5 October 1944. Unhesitatingly volunteering for the extremely hazardous mission of evacuating a wounded comrade from the front lines, Pfc. Kraus and 3 companions courageously made their way forward and successfully penetrated the lines for some distance before the enemy opened with an intense, devastating barrage of hand grenades which forced the stretcher party to take cover and subsequently abandon the mission. While returning to the rear, they observed 2 men approaching who appeared to be marines and immediately demanded the password. When, instead of answering, 1 of the 2 Japanese threw a hand grenade into the midst of the group, Pfc. Kraus heroically flung himself upon the grenade and, covering it with his body, absorbed the full impact of the explosion and was instantly killed. By his prompt action and great personal valor in the face of almost certain death, he saved the lives of his 3 companions, and his loyal spirit of self-sacrifice reflects the highest credit upon himself and the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his comrades.

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota

Cemetery: Fort Snelling National Cemetery

Born: 1925 Chicago, IL

Died: 1944 (Battle of Peleliu) Killed in Action -- Awarded Posthumously.

Additional Information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_go/kraus...

Bio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Edward_Kraus

Note: This is not my ancestry.

My name is Edward Andrew Faust III and I am looking for my Great Grandfather Andreas Faust who emigrated to New York around 1857 from either Memmingen or Mömlingen Bavaria . As I read your Query I discovered a few interesting coincidences as follows :
The parents of Andreas Faust (who was born sometime between 1834 and 1843) should be "Johann Heinrich Faust Schreiner, born in Großwallstadt who married on 7/2/1826 Magdalena von Hör from Mömlingen. The father of Magdalena von Hör was Paul von Hör.
Since the names are very similar (Margarethe - Magdalena)
(Hör - Hör) (Andreas Faust - Andreas Faust) And they all lived in the same place (Mömlingen) do you think there might be some connection between the two family lines. Anyway I would be delighted to hear from you. Up to now I have not been able to find a connection for my Great grandfather.
My Email address is: Ted.Faust@t-online.de
Thank you in advance.
Edward A.
My husband and I have been researching the Krause, Krausz, Krauss, Crouse, Graus line for the past few years. In case you have not yet discovered it, John Kraus born 1822 and Frederick born in 1815 are the sons of Frederick (1790)and Salome Krause and who are originally from Lehigh Co. Frederick's parents were Frederick and Susanna Krausz (Graus). The first Frederick was the schoolmaster at Zeigles Church in Weisenberg township. If you have any information on the school master I would appreciate hearing from you.I believe that his father may have been Samuel but have not been able to make any connection.

Kathy

Hello
I noticed a Bruno Kraus (1829) in your German ancesters. Bruno is relatively rare name in Germany. My father's name was Ferdinand Bruno Richard Eller (born 1910) and his mother was Katharina Nanny Kraus born in late 1800s, most likely Dusseldorf (or Munchen or Bonn). Her father, xxx Kraus, was an art merchant (or artist) in Dusseldorf, in the mid 1800s.

Is there any connection?
Best Regards
Richard Eller

Kraus--Kleinrinderfeld Bayern to the USA

My grandfather is Stephan Joseph Kraus; aka Joseph Stephan Kraus. He emigrated to the USA around 1905 at 23, alone. He settled in the Philadelphia area. His father was Georg Kraus. They lived in Kleinrinderfeld, Bayern. Known siblings of my grandfather were Benedikt, Michael, Helene, Christine (aka Kristin) und Babette (aka Elizabeth). I believe Helene was eldest and my grandfather was second born. Michael or Benedikt were killed in WWI as soldier for the Kaiser. Have you relation to these?

Hey Bernard,

My Great Great Grandfather/mother Otto and Lena Kraus moved to Chicago, Illinois sometime in the 1880s from Bayern. They both had some family over here. Apparently, Lena's lived in the New York area and she didn't care for them and moved to Chicago to get married to Otto. The Kraus family then split up with have moving up to Wisconsin and the other to Michigan. I hope that helps...

Mike Kraus
schismzine@aol.com
