Henry Krause obituary, Nebraska 1900

From the Nebraska Signal, Fillmore County, Nebraska for April 6, 1900:

Again we have been called upon to give up one of our old and highly respected citizens, Henry KRAUSE, who came down a little over a week ago with pneumonia and died April 1, a few minutes past 4’oclock p.m.
Mr. KRAUSE was born in Germany but emigrated with his parents to this country when but a boy and settled in Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. When the civil war broke out he enlisted in the Third Wisconsin infantry and served four years and participated in some of the hardest fought battles of the war in one of which he was quite severely wounded. He came to Nebraska twenty-six years ago and settled on a homestead in Momence township where he has lived ever since until one year ago he moved into town and rented his farm out. Last summer he made quite an extended visit to his old home in Wisconsin, being gone some two months or more.
Mr. KRAUSE was of a retiring nature, never putting himself forward, but was always ready for any duty that devolved upon him and always performed it correctly. He was quite successful, having accumulated a competence. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father and highly esteemed by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed, especially from the Masonic lodge and the G. A. R. post rooms.
He was married in Wisconsin to Miss Louise GREGER and to this union there were born seven children, five boys and two girls, all of whom are living except on son, who died several years ago in the Shickley cemetery. All of the children live here except on, Mrs. Lizzie BRODERSON, who lives in Omaha.
The funeral services were held in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. C. P. METCALF, pastor of the church. He was buried by the Masonic fraternity, the brethren from Geneva, Ong and Davenport kindly lending their assistance. He was followed to his last resting place by a very large procession of sympathizing friends and neighbors. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of the whole community in this, their sad bereavement.
I started at a point like that several years ago on my husband's line. The Krause lines in eastern PA are well researched. You just need to find out how you fit into the existing research.
Let's start with your father's and uncles' dates of birth, and anything else you might know of family names or marriages.

Loey Krause

I am looking for any information that you might have on my family. My fathe r was Stephen Krause. He had a brother Bernie in Wilkes Barre and another named Teddie. Their parents were killed in a car accident when my father was small so I never got to know any of them. I believe they came from the Luzerne, Pa. area. I don't even know my grandparent's names or anything about them. If you can help me, please contact me. I remember as a small child visiting some relatives down there but I don't know who they are or any info on them.
thank you
N4375v@charter.net I am looking for an Opal Krause that adopted two children (twins) out in 1947 Aurora Illinois. One older sibling that may have stayed with family. The mother was married but during adoption process was listed as single. Father was listed as blacksmith. I have seen Opal listed as a possible Opal C. Krause. Could this be Cora??? What year did Cora and Fred Divorce.

I think I am connected. I think I descend from one of his relatives... Here goes. I descend from the sister of Anna Rosina Gilomen who married August Wilheim Bartholdi... they had 8 children

Fred John Krause married Anna Bartholdi daughter of Henry Edward Bartholdi August's brother.

My great grandmother was a young girl who was living in Duluth in the early 1900s. She would have been friends with Anna and possibly went out with Fred John Krause and his brother Henry Krause. Mary Katherine... my great grandmother was born in 1883 so she would have been about the correct age. My grandmother learned when she wed her husband that her birth father's name was Henry Kraus. I can not find out what happened to him. If you have any pictures of Fred John Krause or his family. I would really appreciate seeing them. My grandmother was quite tall and slender with high cheek bones. She had dark hair and a beautiful complexion. She looked nothing like any of her siblings (who were actually half siblings.. she learned later). We have been trying for years to find out what happened to Henry Krause so if you can shed any light on the family I would be very greatful.
I think you’re right!

I’ve been unable to find information on Viola’s parents, but I have several records of her living with Albert and Albertine as their granddaughter. I would LOVE to exchange information – please email me at lindsay.leukanech at gmail.com. I’ll convert the files I have (mostly census, trees I’ve made and a few news articles) to pdf. I also have some photos of Viola (among others) and ‘her daughter’ from an old family scrapbook if you’re interested, and a significant amount of information about the family descended from Viola’s uncle Albert Krause

I’m so happy to hear from you!!
Gladys was my Great Aunt who passed away a few years ago. I have found interestng documents from the late 1800's early 1900's and I will look thru them. I belive Viola was raised by her grandparents as I understood her parents died when she was a very young girl. I do know the family lived in Chicago I believe on Balboa St. I have some old letters. I would love to know if this is her family as we never knew very much of her.

Just an update on this research. I found Lillian's mother's obit which I'm including below. Looks like Lillian remarried and ended up in SD. Maybe this will help someone with additional clues so that you can help me find these descendent's! The obit was transposed and parts were not very readable so there may be a few typos like Lillian's last name which was not clear.

-----Thanks, Jon Sanders

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mrs. Emma Krause 8/12/1957 LeMars Globe-Post

Mrs. Emma Krause, 77, 4021 Van Buren Street, a resident of Sioux City for 49 years, died Friday afternoon at a hospital.

Mrs. Krause was born March 22, 1880 in Pomerama, Germany. Before moving to Sioux City about 1908, she had resided in Plymouth county, IA. She was married to August F. Krause August 27, 1901 in Lincoln township, Plymouth county. He died in 1950

She was a member of Calvary Lutheran church.

Survivors include three sons, Clarence of Hinton, IA, and Lawrence and Fred, both of Kingsley, IA, four daughters, Mrs. Lillian Byrins of North Sioux City, S.
