KREETZER

My G Grandmother was Florence Eliza Kreetzer(or Eliza Florence as the names were transposed between birth and marriage). On her wedding certificate her father's name is listed as John Kretzer (possible mispelling) and he worked as a stoker to a district council (possibly Edmonton/Tottenham Middlesex). In the 1901 census she is listed as married (Askin which is correct) and related as daughter to the head of household whose name is now John Reuben?! born at St Lukes London in about 1847. The family were living in Tottenham.
Any help would be most appreciated. Carol I have sent you a personal email. Jan

Do you have any further info re his fathers details. My father always said that his great grandfather which would have been John born 1811 came here from America, unless that was on his mothers side.

John Kreitzer or as seen in Berrien County, Michigan records Creitzer was born about 1784-88 in Pennsylvania. His death record says his father was named Andrew. I found an Andrew Kreitzer in the 1790 Tulpehocken Township, PA census. I believe this is his family. John was in Strak County Ohio by 1820 and on to Michigan about 1840. Need help with his children.

Edward J. Kreitzer, Buffalo, NY and Elk County, PA

I do not have a connection to the Kreitzer or connecting families but I am compiling a booklet about former rural and early school teachers and during my reserch I found the name, Edward J. Kreitzer, married Josephine Pearl (nee Kelso) who was an early rural and local school teacher in Elk county, Pa. It's probable that Edward J. Kreitzer was the son of Frank Kreitzer, resident of JBurg in 1920, who was age 50 years old, born about 1869 in Austria. Edward Kreitzer married Josephine Pearl Kelso in June of 1937 in Buffalo, NY.
The couple must have lived in Buffalo the balance of their lives because Edw. J. Kreitzer, born May 29, 1906, in JBurg, died in Buffalo in Sept. of 1960. He was survived by his wife, and sisters, Mrs. Joseph Drathman, Johnsonburg; Mrs. Albert Ohmer, Erie; Mrs. George Fesler, North East, and Mrs. William Smith, Fort Myers, Florida. I am presently searching for the obit. for Josephine Pearl (nee Kelso) Kreitzer so that I can find out more about her education and teaching experiences. Perhaps the submitting of this information will assit others in their research for their Kreitzer ancestors.

KREITZER

Hello William.
I just found your posting today and thought I would contact you, give you a bit of the little history I have.

My ggGF's name was Conrad KREITZER (and I have found many different spellings)married to Catharine KAUFFMAN. Conrad was born in Prussia in 1833. I have found in census records that he arrived in the U. S. circa 1837. My uncle, however, told me he arrived in 1851. I tend to go with the census records. I mention this only because of the other conflicting information I have. Conrad and Catharine were married in 1856 and had at least four children:

Catharine who I was told was born in 1857 but census records indicate circa 1874. The 1880 Ohio census has her listed as six years old. See marriage note below.

William, born about 1860. Note the son's and father's names: WILLIAM, CONRAD. Coincidence?
Elizabeth, born 1867
Francis, born 1870.

The family records (verbal) have Catharine marrying William Newbauer in 1883. These are my great grandparents. However, if Catharine was born in 1874 and not in 1857 she would only be nine at the time of her marriage.
As I said, and you can see, my information is conflicting and limited.
Because of the 'William, Conrad' names, I thought I would give you the information and see if you could make something out of it.

Good luck and I hope this helps. Maybe, maybe not.
regards,

Larry Hayes
I'm sorry, but I'm not sure if I ever responded to your response. I have been quite busy lately including a nine day trip to Ohio and West Virginia "digging up bones"
Since I last wrote you, I have been contacted by an aunt I never knew I had. She had been doing research on the family too. It seems that the Conrad Kreitzer and Catherine Kauffman I had been researching are not my lineage. My line is Konrad Kreitzer (b. 1825 in Baden, Germany). He married an Elizabeth Brinholf (b. 1834 in Germany). If this helps, let me know.
Larry

I have found only one Kreitzer in my family history, and wondered if you might have a connection to her since I am also in Montgomery Co., OH.
Elizabeth Kreitzer (b May 15,1847, d September 01, 1877, m to Hezekiah Hull) is my 2nd great grandmother. I would like to find further info on her, as well as who her parents are and where all of them are buried. Her oldest son ,William David Hull, is buried in Bethel Cemetery outside of Phillipsburg, but I haven't been able locate his parents.
If you have any information on her, I would be very appreciative! Thank you!

My GG Grandfather was John Kreetzer, he married Sarah Hardman at St. Giles Cripplegate Church 20 May 1866. His father's name on the marriage certificate is John and his profession is listed as Furrier I believe. His age is listed as 23 so I think it is possible that this is the same John Kreetzer as you have. I'd love to hear from you and see if it is indeed.

Dear Judith,

I just came across your listing asking for information on Nathan Greitzer and Louis Kreitzer. Are you aware that they also had a sister – Sara (or sometimes recorded as Sarah or Sonia) Greitzer – my great grandmother, whom I was named after. Sara and her husband Isaac Cobden, settled in Britain, and my grandmother (Clara Cobden, known as Dolly in the family) was in communication with Marc and Jenny Kreitzer, and I believe on occasion visited each other. Did you ever get any responses to your listing and could we swop family information - my email address is sara_priem@yahoo.co.uk? I believe one of Sara’s brothers (I’m not sure which one) lived with my great-grandparents in Britain for a while before going on to America.
I have very little on my Kreitzer ancestry. They arrived in the US in 1849, and spent about 10 years in New York state. Not sure where. In 1860 my great grandmother, Barbara, married my great grandfather, Charles Gatzke in Minnesota. Barbara had 2 known brothers, Christian and Leonard and they settled in Minnesota. Their parent's names are unknown, or whether they had other siblings that might have migrated to the Ohio area.

Dear Judith
I do not think that my Kreetzer's are yours but here are their details just in case.
Johannes KREETZER married Susannah Watson formally Stevens, they had several children the eldest two Johannes & Susan were both born out of wedlock . However they both died young.
then there was Henrech who became known as Henry born 1842, Johann (John) 1844, Nancy 1846, Susan 1849, Lucy 1851, Agnes (my g grandmother) 1853 - 1915 and Alice 1855. The family seem to have lived in the City of London and the surrounding area, Shoreditch ect.
I have found at least four children born to Henry.
I hope this helps best wishes and good luck with your search.
Wendy

Mary Greisher Berks County 1700's...Kreitzer/Creutzer/Krouser??!!

Mary Greisher married J. Philip Wageman in Maxatawny Twp. Berks County around 1787-1788. Their first child's (son John) baptism sponsors were Daniel and Maria Krouser. Would that be her parents? (She and Philip moved to Bedford County in 1790).

I have seen so many versions of "Greisher" that I have no idea where to look for her. I believe she was born 1749 or so. The only other Greisher I find in that area is a marriage record for Adam Greisher. Could she be of a Kreisher/Kreitzer family of Berks County or nearby? I would appreciate any input that anyone has, since I have no other leads on Mary herself except for the names in the baptismal record.

If you have any ideas at all, please email me at waugerman@hotmail.com - and THANK YOU!

Linda, I don't have many records with the spelling Kretzer, but as you probably know by now, this doesn't make much difference anyway! There were two Leonards in this time frame. The DAR Patriot Index lists Leonard Kretzer, who died 4-12-1828, as a Boatman Corporal from N.Y. in the Revolution.
His widow was pensioned. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Cool. I believe this one settled in either Washington Co. or Frederick Co. Md.
I will check this further next week.
Another Leonard Critzer, a German Immigrant, also fought in the Revolution. He lived from 1758 to 1852 and was shown in the 1850 Census in Harrison Co. Va. (now W.Va.)at age 91.
The only record of Christian I have is the one who came to Rockingham Co, Va. with his father Joseph and brothers and sisters, in this same time period, from Lancaster Co. Pa. They all spelled the name Kratzer.
My direct e-mail address is ELCritzer@aol.com.
I have been searching for some "official" documentation for ages and think I have finally found something. South Dakota has birth record information for Anna Augusta Kreuzer (second child of Richard and Anna). That record shows the following: Sex: Female; Birth Date: 04/03/1887; City/County: Grant; Mother: Anna Caroline Athela Yohanna Shomaker; Father: Richard Friedr Kreuzer.

I have always been searching for Schumacher (as opposed to Shomaker) and could never find any records. I have written to Minnesota trying to get marriage records for Anna and Richard and birth records of Emma Kreuzer with no luck. I will now try searching for "Shomaker". Hopefully now we know the correct spelling of both names (Kreuzer as opposed to Kreutzer and Shomaker as opposed to Schumacher and no Tiele in Anna's name). What do you think?

If you have one of these last names you may be related. The name was mispelled when we came to the US. I am looking for relatives of Nathan and Elizabeth Greitzer. Their 5 sons are Sam, Harry, Max and twins Arthur and David. They lived in Bronx, NY at some point. Nathan had a brother named Louis. If you have any information on any of these people please contact me at jakamp@rcn.com!

Hello!
Do any of these names fit with your family? My father is Norman Kreitzer son of Marcus Kreitzer who is son of Louis Kreitzer. My GR GRandparents Betty Lavitanus married Louis Kreitzer (originally Greitzer). They came to US around 1904. Louis had a brother, Nathan (wife Elizabeth) who had 5 boys Sam, Harry, Max and twins Arthur and David. My father is Norman Kreitzer son of Marcus Kreitzer who is son of Louis Kreitzer. I have heard over the years that we have relatives in UK.
Hi, Angela! According to family stories, Roscoe came from Kentucky to Ohio because of some trouble with law - he was running shine during Prohibition. So he changed the spelling of his last name. Mom has his pension papers from WWI and both spellings are on it. Interesting, eh? I'm at mzngrace@hotmail.com - send me a note and I'll send you a gedcom.

Hi Jennifer,

Emanuel Henry Kreitzer was born on 23 Aug 1905 in Preble Co, OH. He married Ora Alpha Thorpe on the 5 May 1930. In my notes from Aunt Suzie it indicates that the wedding was at the home of the bride. (Is that the house on Third St. west of the high school in West Alexandria?) He died 5 June 1973 at the Grandview hospital in Dayton, OH. I was there, but don't remember much as I was only 10 years old. Grand Pa is buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetary North of West Alexandria ( New Lexington) in the family plot next to Alpha and my father ( Dennis Emanuel Kreitzer). There are at least 5 generations of Kreitzer's buried there. Do you have any information on my grandmothers mother Margaret Louise Combs? And I have Garland Bruce Tharp as Alpha's father. Do you know anything about the change in spelling of the last name? (Thorpe/Tharp)
