I Have recently found out that Anton was not born in 1810 and did not die in 1890. He was born in 1828 and don't know when he died or where.. He is also known by Johann Anton Krock, also found him with last name Krack, and may very well be the missing link between the Ohio kroeck's/ Krock.. and the Missouri Kroecks.. anyone knowing anything please let me know.. Thanks.. Charles Kroeck

I, too, have Krock (sometimes Kroch, Crock or Krack) relatives from Northampton County. Some of my (distant) cousins wound up in the Wind Gap area, but my line, at least, settled in Northumberland County (Delaware Township, Turbot, Watsontown and Milton) by the middle of the 19th century). My Krocks are the descendants of Philip and Salome Krock/Krack (my maternal great-great-great grandparents), who seem to have spent their entire lives in Northampton County, mostly in Moore Township near Easton. I have so far been unable, however, to "break the code" Philip and Salome and confirm the alleged Dutch (not Pennsylvania Dutch) origins of the family. Do you have any information along those lines?

Thanks in advance for any info you could provide.

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them. I obtained one from an auction that is small, perhaps wallet size, of a man. It was taken late 1800s, my guess.

He's wearing a suit jacket, white shirt and thin "bow" tie.
Dark hair and a moustache.

On the back is the photographers information and it was taken in Reading, PA. Written in sloppy pencil is: Yours truly, Henry Krock.

If you'd like to obtain this, contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details.

Kathy

Krock/Kroeck

I don't know if this is proper but I am answering my own query ! In my last message I stated that I was having difficulty connecting up all the Kroeck/Krock ancestors in the micro-filmed records from the Lutheran Church in Heuchelheim, near Giessen, Germany. Well, I wrote a nice e-mail to the pastor offering to make any appropriate donation if he/she would research the records for me. Besides the Birth/Baptismal, confirmation, marriage and death records a "Family Book" was written ( but never filmed by the LDS ). This organized all the families with descendants and ancestors. For about $108.00 the pastor sent me the birth, marriage and death records of ALL my traceable Heuchelheim ancestors, both male and female lines back to the mid-1600's ! That included over 100 direct line ancestors going back 11 generations in many cases. I sent the pastor $150.00 donation and, believe me it was cheap at 10 times that price. My message to all those who found out what town/parish your ancestors came from " CONTACT THE CHURCH " even if the records have been filmed. The pastor or volunteers MAY have done all your research for you by extractin the names and dates, organizing the families by ancestors and descendants and translated the information into readable modern German or English. It is exciting to see the filmed records but as in my case there were just too many Krocks with the same 1st names. Mine was a genealogical wind-fall. I wish the same sucess for all those seeking their ancestors. Good luck hunting. Tom Green

Is there a likelihood that "Krok" also comes from Krock? What is the origin of the name?
Thank you in advance for any information you might have.
Jennifer

Dear Bridget,
I have learned that Krock is not that unusual a name in Germany. I did find out that several Krock families emigrated to the US about the same time from Heucleheim, Giessen, Hessen, Darmstaadt, Germany by the middle of the 19th century. I found through the Civil War Pension File Index a number of Krocks from Heucleheim (all of whom I ASSUME are related) had moved to the mid-west Do you have any dates and places for your William Krock ? Might he of been of age to fight in the Civil War ? Have you checked the Index and then the original pension files with all the old documents stored in Washington DC ? Good luck with your search.
Tom Green

Krock/Kroeck Family

My maternal 3 times great grandfather Jacob Kroeck came to N.Y.C. jin 1850 from Heucleheim District of the city of Giessen in the Hessian state of Germany. Many related Krock/Kroecks emmigrated to the mid-west to farm. Could your family be a descendant from the Giessen Kroecks ?
Tom Green gretnaxx@aol.com

Krock-Kroeck Family

My maternal great-great-great grandfather, Jacob Krock/Kroeck came from the Heucleheim District of Giessen, a Hessian city in Germany. The parish records go back to the 1640's. My research shows that the Krock/Kroeck surname was given to all the citizens who lived in the city of Cracow in Poland in the middle ages. I am interested in corresponding with any Hessian area Krock/Kroecks who may have done research in those Heucleheim Lutheran church records. I am having lots of problems connecting up which Kroeck/Krock descended from which. I look forward to your response. Tom Green
