Hi Angela, Peter Kroll (Krolikowski) here. Your Grandfather, John, was my father's brother. My Dad was Victor Krolikowski. He ran the Marathon City Brewery warehouse in Wausau until around 1959, when he went to work for Hammerblow Tool Company in Wausau. He died in 1964. Dad was married to Katherine Nowacki from Athens, Wisconsin. He had 6 kids, Victor Robert (Bob), Elaine, Cynthia, Nancy, Peter (me) and Alice. Bob and I had our name shortened to Kroll in 1970. Elaine Weisman, married to Joe Weisman still lives in the Wausau area, as does Cyntian Zabel. She has most of our family's early pictures and she may have some of your grandfather and grandmother. Give her a call. To see some pictures of Victor Krolikowski and family members, go to www.marathoncitybrewery.com Click on "Pictures", then click on "Victor Krolikowski."

Hi! Glad to know others are in search of Krolikowski Family. You need to find a birth certificate for John Krolikowski to see who his parents are. It will also give the ages of the parents. If there is no civil cert, try to discover where he was baptised and request a baptismal cert. The names will likely be written in Polish if John(Jan)was of Polish origin. Krolikowski IS a Polish surname. The names of the godparents are also significant. The names can lead you to other family members, since that is who godparents usually were. After you find out John's parents' names you can search the Ellis Island database to see if you can find them listed. The ship manifest will give the date they arrived, their ages upon arrival, who else traveled with the family, the town in Poland they came from and the person they left behind (usually the name of a parent), and what town in America plus the name of the person to whom they were headed. I have Krolikowskis in my tree. They were from the area of Szczawin Koscielny, Gostynin, Poland. Maybe we will meet on a branch of the tree. :)

I recently "kidnapped" my mother's family tree book. I've been trying to fill in some of the blanks for her.

I'd like to trace my maternal grandfather's family back to Europe. I'm not sure what the country of origin was...best guess would be Poland or Germany.

This is all I have to go on, any information you have would be greatly appreciated.

John Arnold Krolikowski born Aug 26, 1905 in Wausau (Marathon County), Wisconsin. Died Nov 25, 1971. Married Katherine Marie Heller born June 18, 1909 in Mosinee (Marathon County), Wisconsin. Died Aug 2006.

John and Katherine had 5 children:
Delores (Krolikowski) Bartelt (Wausau, WI)
Raymond (Wausau, WI) <-- my grandfather
James (Wausau, WI)
Donald (Wausau, WI)
Kathleen (Krolikowski) Autio (Wausau, WI)

I'm seeking information on the ancestors of John Arnold Krolikowski. I don't have any information on John's siblings (if he had any).

Thank you in advance.
-Angela

I have not come across any Ignacy Krolikowski so far in my research. My ancestors are from the town of Lubicz near Torun in the Roman Catholic parish of Dobrzejewice. I checked the town of Podborz at www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/. There are several towns in Poland but they are not in the same vicinty of Lubicz.

Depending on when your grandparents arrived, you may be able to find them in a passenger's manifest on line at Ellis Island. It took awhile to find my grandparents because of the misspelling but the manifest included a lot of valable information.

hello i dont remember if ive spoken to you before or not. my grandparents are ignacy/theodosia(tessie)krolikowski. on the manifest it says podborz. i find all these letters very hard to read. on one of the census' it says ignacy-this is a marriage 2...he was 10+ years older than my grandmother. my mom use to always tell me her father had a brother, i remember going to penn as a little girl, but thats where it ends. ive no paperwork or passports. ignacy passed away in 1936 i know where hes buried and ive his death certificate. this paperwork only says poland. have you come across anything for an ignacy in your family line. thank you gloria

I know that he lived in Peckville, PA and had 2 daughters and a son. My grandmother was born in late 1890's but he could have been her older brother or even an uncle. Where did your friend's grandfather live in Poland. That would help.

Hi, I use the reference book POLISH SURNAMES: Origins & Meanings, Second Edition, Revised by William F. Hoffman. It's the "bible" of surnames in Poland. Krol means "king". The derivatives of Krol are: Krolak, Krolczyk, Krolewicz, Krolewski, Krolicki, Krolik, Krolikowski, Kroll, Krul, Krulczyk, Kruliczak, Krulik, Krulikowski, Krull. I have seen my ancestors' names spelled Krol and Krolikowski all on one record. I don't quite understand why at this point, but I keep a look-out for both names when I'm searching.

The area of Podgorze is not near the Ukraine. It's smack dab in the middle of Poland. I guess you have to search your ancestors one person at a time very carefully to trace them back to a certain location.

The reference to "podburs" as a village location got me wondering... There is a village named "Podgorze" about 2 miles northeast of Gostynin, Poland. It is the region where the Krol family could have lived. Check it out on Mapquest.

Hi,
My research has led me to your group. My gr grandmother's name is Anna Krol from the Gostynin/Soczewka area of Poland. I have recently found my grandfather's and a couple of his sibs' birth certs from that area. Anna Krol married Edward Wybranowski in 1880 in Radziwie. I have their marr cert. Her parents were listed as Marcin Krol and Rozalia Witkowska. From 1881 onwards there were many children. On most of the birth certs her name was written "Krolikowska". Does anyone have any connections? Can anyone tell me more about this?
Thanks in advance. Bobbi

Hi Jane,
I have the information that you are looking for on Michael Krolikowski. My great aunt was Otilda (Tillie) Wittbrodt, and I have been researching the Witbrodt/Wittbrodt family history since 1980, gathering information on the Wittbrodt families from Bay, Saginaw, Genesee, and Wayne counties in Michigan. Michael's date of death is May 7, 1932, buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit on May 10, 1932. Tillie is buried there by him and his third wife is also buried there on the same plot next to him. If you have any further questions about Michael and Tillie, please email me directly.

My g g grandfather's name was Jan (John) Krolikowski. He immigrated to US in the late 1860's possibly thru Canada as I cannot find any record of that name on US immigration archives. His wife's name was Rosalia Smida. Jan changed the name to Kroll.

Where is Tylicz as on the census records Jan indicated he was from Prussia which would have been western Poland during that era.

Any help, would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jerome

Hi Gloria, Since last we posted, I have discovered the name Ignacy Krol/Krolikowski attached to my family. The Ignacy I know about was born 11 July 1872 in Ciechomice, Parish Dobrzykow, Poland. His parents were Marcin Krolikowski and Rozalia Witkowski. My great grandmother is the sister of Ignacy. Her name is Anna Krol, born 27 Mar 1858. There were also siblings: Eleanora, Wladyslaw Antoni, Wiktoria, and Jozefa. I have found the surname as Krolikowski as well as Krol on various records for these same people. Any connections?

HI, Well, I'm having a tough time, myself, with this Krol/Krolikowski family. Your Ignacy might not be my Ignacy. That's a lot of years difference. I don't know where my Krol/Krolikowskis originated. My Ignacy was the son of Marcin Krolikowski and Rozalia Witkowski. Marcin's father was Jozef Krolikowski. His wife was Klara Imkowski. Most of the records I know about are from Dobrzykow. Bobbi

I'm quoting from POLISH SURNAMES: ORIGINS & MEANINGS Second Edition by William F. Hoffman. Trus- <the Ukraine name "Truchan" [M], see Truchan; Trus, Truschka, Truschke, Trusewicz, Trusiak, Trusiewicz, Trusinski, Trusiuk, Trusz, Truszewski, Truszkiewicz, Truszkowski, Truszynski. Trusk-, Truszcz- <truska, "rustle" [Russian]; Truskawa, Truskolaski, Truskolawski, Truskowski, Truszczynski, Truskolas, Trzuskot, Truskowski. These are the surnames in use in Poland in the late 1990s. Maybe the surname you know has altered over time?
As far as the "podburs" location....... There is a Podgorze in the area where my Krol/Krolikowskis come from. Use Mapquest.com. Type in Gostynin, Poland. Enlarge the area. Pan slightly northeast of Gostynin, Poland. That's where Podgorze is.
Good Luck

Krolikowski/Krol and Krul Families in Parish Suserz, Gostynin, Poland

Hi, Since posting to this group last, I have discovered that there are many, many members of this family in Parish Suserz and Parish Dobrzykow. I have encountered the surname in many forms on many of my same ancestors' records - Krol, Krolikowski or Krul, Krulikowski. The towns most common to the Krol/Krolikowskis in Parish Suserz surrounding the town of Suserz are: Szczawin Koscielny, Szczawin Borowy, Szczawinek, Budy Suserskie, Slup, Waliszew, and Suserz. Krols are able to be traced back to the late 1700s in this parish. Happy hunting!
Bobbi

I have been researchingthe LDS microfilms for the records of Parish Suserz, Gostynin, Poland 1780 - 1857 and have found many, many Krol/Krul family members. In the very early records the name is spelled either way -- whatever strikes the priest's fancy. There are many connections to be made in these films.

Re: Joseph Krolikowski from Pennsylvania

I am not sure about other family that Joesph K. might have had, so I will write to Poland and see.

From what I know, it appears that Joseph left his family in Poland and returned to the US around 1914. No one knows if he returned to Pennsylvania or went elsewhere.

I will reply again after getting some more info. from my friend in Poland.

Joseph Krolikowski from Pennsylvania

I am doing this search on behalf of a friend in Poland. While visiting family a Miriana K. asked me to help him find his family in the USA. His father Frank K. was born near Latrobe, Westmoreland County, PA about 1910 and shortly after the family moved back to Poland. His father's father (Joseph) however returned to the US around 1914 and never returned. Rumor had it he started a new family but we are not sure if he even returned to PA or to another state. His name was Joseph (Josef) born about 1870. My friend is hoping to find something out about his grandfather, Joseph Krolikowski.

We believe that perhaps 2 of his older daughters, Edna and Sophie never returned to Poland but stayed in the US but are not sure.

Krolikowski Piotr (Peter)

Hi,

I am looking for information on Piotr Krolikowski (est. date of birth 1875). He landed at Ellis Island on Sept 11, 1906. He was from Suwalki. He was 31 and married when he arrived. His final destination was Westfield, MA to his brother-in-law Vincent Kibit. His wife Jozefa (Kibitlewski) Krolikowski & children came to join him but were turned back at Ellis Island because one of the children had an eye diesase and was not allowed in the country. She returned home with the children but he never returned to Poland. He remained in Westfield until at least 1915. After that I cannot find him. I am in contact with one of his grandchildren in Poland and I am trying to find out what happened to him for her. I am related on the Kibitlewski side of the family. Vincent Kibit was my great uncle and Jozefa was my great aunt. Thanks.
