I was wondering if you found connections for "alva" after all this time.

I show a John Alva Kryder who was the son of Ira W. & Lovina Levering or Leavering and a Grandson of John Samuel Kryder.

I believe Lovina married Charles F.
Been at it a while and every few years have to take a break because of frustration.

Had no idea so much work had gone in to the Internet ! But
now I remember why I'd get frustrated.

My line settled on the spelling "Greider" but in the early to mid 1800's I've found them with the spellings -Cryder, Kreider, Crider, Krider, Grider and Greider. (Even saw a few that appeared to be relatives who had an "N" or a "T" in place of the "D")

Just noticed the soundex feature here and got the following results - for Greider = 22 possibilities ; for Kreider = 15 hits ; for Creider = 78 hits !

First of all the soundex completely missed the most important phonetic issue - it did not see the interchangability of the K, G and C.

And secondly of the 78 supposed matches for the C I only saw one that was near to this family.

No wonder I'm almost bald.

David
