Hi, My father is George and his parents were Gertrude Elflein and George Kiefer so I think we're cousins. I went to Woodlawn with Dad and got a map of the family plot and Barbara Kummel was listed. Dad didn't remember the name. Was Dorothy Elflein the sister of Gertrude. Dad had a sister named Dorothy maybe named after Dorothy Elflein. I think Dad had your email address but it's gone. If you want to send it again to his address I can get in touch with you that way. Thanks for responding.

Naturalization papers were obtained from the Northeast region of the N.A.R.A. Unfortunately specific information on birthplace was not required until 1906 and my great grandfather became a citizen in 1875. I still have no village for him other than Prussia and the German Empire.

August Kümmel

After two years I need to update. My great grandmother Lisette Kümmel Ueffinger came to New York City with my great grandfather Christian M. Ueffinger in 1870. They were both born in Prussia. Lisette also had a sister named Lena living with her in 1870 New York. She was born in 1840 and her parents were August Kümmel and Elizabeth Dietz. I have not been able to find a passenger record or my great grandfather's naturalization papers to find from what village. I have seen a posting on the L.D.S. sight for an August Kuemmel born in Prussia 1805. This could fit for my August. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. If you have a hint on naturalization papers out of New York that would be great! Thanks! Al

Does anyone know of the parents of Charles I. Kummell or Charles Joseph Kummell? He was married to FE (Florence Estrella) Van Dusen. He was born June 18, 1866 and died in Sedalia Missouri on Aug 26, 1941. His parents at one time lived in Chicago and owned a pickle factory. I have most of the descendants and families, but am stuck going up the tree. Charles raised race horses if that helps. Let me know and thanks!!!!!

I am researching the Uffinger family. According to records in New York my Great Grandfather Christian M. Uffinger married Lissette Kummel est. 1871 or previous. She was born in New York City according to my Grandfather. There are three listings for Kummel in New York prior to 1890 August, Edward, and H.E. If anyone has any information on the Kummel family please reply. Thank you.
Allen Uffinger

Hello Ricardo!
Thanks for the reply. If you get a chance to do any research in New York keep an eye out for Lissette. She was probably born before 1850. She gave birth to my grandfather in 1871. It is difficult to research New York census from Alabama. If you have any luck finding her parents my email address is: Uffbear@aol.com
I have found some Uffinger's in Argentina but it would be nice to have family in Brazil as well! Have a Merry Christmas!!!

Hello R. Kiefer! I am in Alabama and access to New York info is scarce. I need to get back to NARA in Atlanta but have to take off work during the week to do so.I show several Kummel's in N.Y. during 1850-1870 time frame. Henry, August, Edward,Charles, and Fredrick. Any of them could be your link or mine. Let me know if you run across a daughter Lissette in these households. The only way for me to date her age is that she gave birth to my grandfather in 1871. Do you know if Woodlawn cemetery is still open or can be researched by the net. If the Kummel family was buried there I may can find my Uffinger's-Ueffinger's there as well. Allen

Hi Allen, Woodlawn is big with many famous people buried there and the people in the office are very helpful. Can't find an official website but a lot of references on search engines. Open daily. Address: Webster Ave. and 233rd St. Bronx NY 10470 Phone:718-920-0500 I gave them names and they printed out all buried in that plot. Good luck. If I go down again I'll check on these names.
