Hello. I am looking for any information regarding Paulus Kundert of Switzerland. I don't know his wife's name, but his daughter was Sarah Min(n)a Kundert(1842/5/01 in Switzerland-1931/7/01-St. Louis, Missouri). She was married to Sebastian Sebold(12/6/1838-Darmstadt,Germany-2/26/1916-St.Louis, Missouri.) They had a daughter, Anna Catherine Sebold(9/4/1866-St.Louis, Missouri.) I don't have her death year but she died in St. Louis. She married Paul Frederick Vander Lippe SR(March 3, 1866 St. Louis, Missouri-1910. I'm assuming he died in Missouri, but I don't have that info.) They had a son, Paul Frederick Vander Lippe JR(Feb 22, 1896 St. Louis, Missouri-October 17, 1973-St. Louis, Misouri) He married Elinor Leslie Mathews(May 25, 1896, St. Louis, Missouri-Sept 14, 1981, Overland Park, Kansas)
If anyone can use or HAS this information, as well as any info regarding Paulus Kundert's family, please contact me.
Beth Lippe

Yes! If you got your info from Dorothy Sweeter you probably got a lot of great info and pictures. Your Paulus Kundert (born on March 22, 1835) is a brother to my Rosina Kundert (my ancestor) Dorothy gave me so much stuff I haven't read it entirely yet. You say Paulus came over to America in 1845? I know that the father of 17 kids, Abraham Kundert, died in 1838 and Sara Voegeli came to America after that, but when, or with whom I don't know yet.
my email is
marymertz1@yahoo.com

Abraham Kundert and Sara Voegeli were my ancestors, too. They had 17 children and their 13th child, Rosina Kundert, married a man named Mathias Durst (not the diary one) and they had a son named Abraham Durst. That was my great-grandfather.
About a year ago, I went to Wisconsin for a visit. I have some pictures and info from New Glarus, WI. and also some pictures of the area that the Kundert and Durst families came from in Switzerland.
I have a picture of Elsbeth Kundert (Rosina's sister)and lots of info about her family I got from one of her descendants.

I am having a very hard time finding any information on my grandmother's side of the Kundert family. I have only very limited information. Maybe someone out there can help me with my Kundert family tree. Anything would be much appreciated. The information I have: Fredrick and Bertha (Hazenbehler) Kundert married. Do not have marriage date. Their children: Gladys, Estelle (my grandmother) Laverne and Norma. I am trying to contact children from Norma's side of the family. Married name (I think) would have been Wolford? I also thought I would be able to get in contact with a son from Gladys' side of the family. The name would be James Seinor (or Senior). Anyone who has any information on this Kundert family, please write to me. I only have limited information and would like to continue on with my family tree. I have some census' from this family. It would be very much appreciated if you can get in contact with me. Thank you so very much......Brenda

Ray,

I saw her message to a Julie on Oct 2001. My name is also Julie and my husband's name is Gordon Vogt. Gordon's gr gr grandparents were Jacob Kundert and Barbara Ludwig. You mentioned that you have a picture of Jacob Kundert and Barbary (spelled that way?)Kundert. We are all excited because we hardly have any information on Barbara's family, the Ludwigs, and would love to have a copy of the picture you talked about and any information that you can give us regarding them. Could you email both the picture and the Kundert Family Shield to us? Barbara died early (we do not know the date) and Jacob married her half sister, Annetta (Anna)Ludwig. They came to America in 1854. Bertha Kundert (Barbara and Jacob's oldest child)is Gordon's gr grandmother. She married John Jacob Vogt. We have all kinds of info on the Vogts if you would like to know anything, let us know. Our email is vogt@watchtv.net.

The family is registered in Leuggelbach GL where an ancestor war the nightwatchman. There is a Kaspar Kundert in the ancestry as a cousin has an antique cupboard with the name painted along with a date across it. Any one have a clue to Johannes parents?

Jon Heinrich (Henry) Kundert (b. Feb. 21, 1819) married Elsbeth Kundert on Nov. 25, 1841. I think they had seven children: Jacob, Sara, Magdalena, Abraham, Elsbeth, Joh Heinrich, and Caspar. My ancestor is Joh Henrich (b. Sept. 1 1850), who went by Henry, and married Anna Katherine Schmid (b. Feb.28, 1856), who went by Katie. She is a descendant of the original pioneers at New Glarus. Henry and Katie lived in SD. My grandfather, August Kundert, is one of their 14 children. I have some info on the Henry-Elsbeth family. I have a lot of info on the Henry-Katie family.
Where do you fit in this tree? If you are also a descendant of Anna Katherine (Katie) Schmid, descendants of her parents’ family had a reunion in Beresford, SD this year and put out a family book of the Schmids. It included Anna’s generation and my grandfather’s generation also. We tried to contact as many people as we had info on.
Brenda: The 1870 Census for Union County, Arkansas lists Peter Feldman, age 41, born in Switzerland, with wife, Barvena, age 38, born Switzerland, son, Jacob, age 4, born in Switzerland, and an Ann Kundert, age 15, born in Switzerland. I am sure you have this info but since I am searching John Ulrich Kundert, born 1826, originally, from Schwanden, Glarus, Switzerland, who acquired land in Union County, AR on 1 October 1860. In this census, John U. Kundert, Jacob Kundert, born 1840, in Switzerland, lived next door to Peter Feldman. It would be wonderful if you could enlighten me about the relationship of these three families.

Here's some quick info on Katherine of Katarina Kundert - who has the same birthdate as Katherine (they are the same person). She married Hiram Alberts, Sr. on 16 April 1859. They were married in Milton, Dodge Co. MINN. Hiram's info is as follows b. 18 JAN 1832 in Emden Germany. Died 13 Sept 1912. He fought in the civil war from 22 Aug. 1864 to 16 Jun 1865. Katarina was born on 8 Aug 1844. She was buried in Roseco, MINN. . .

I'm sure you can find this same info and more if you look up KATARINA instead of KATHERINE. I am descended from their son, Hiram Alberts, Jr.

I checked the Green County marriage records from the 1850's and it lists Katharina Kundert's parents as Caspar and Katharina (no maiden name listed for Katharina). Therefore, I presume that she is the sister of Jacob Kundert mentioned in my previous note. Christian Wenger's brother Karl was my g-g-grandfather. I would really appreciate seeing the info you have received on the Wengers and Kunderts.

Hi Bob , well Ive got 18 Jaocob Kundert's in my data base. Theres one that I dont have a birth date or parents for for yet that married a women named Franny( probably be a nic name), and they had a son Rudy brn 1855 in Winslow , and he married Ida Norder 29 Mar 1893. I don't have any Wenger imfo , but I will keep a look out . I have so many Kundert's in my data base, the one you are looking for could be in my family, the Kundert's in my tree had very big families back in Switzerland, some had as many as 20 children.I do have A Catherine Wild in the family , but she was the daughter of Joshua Wild and Barbara Speich, and she married an Eichelkraut. I also have 10 different Casper Kunderts in the family. One of them was brn 24 Sep 1805 Ruti, Canton Glarus , son of Abraham and Sara Voegli ( I have no wife or children for him so he could be the Casper you are looking for)would be the right time frame to be your Jacobs father) ,well Ill keep looking , and if I find anything Ill let you know. Stay in touch if you have anymore imfo. , I would like to know about him also if he fits into the family. Ray Rupnow.

I know of a Jacob Kundert, born 1826 in Switzerland and died 1882 in New Glarus or Monroe, who was the son of Caspar and Katharina (Wild) Kundert. Don't know if he had a sister Katharina, but the dates and names would fit. Is this the Katharina Kundert who married Christian Trachsel and then Christian Wenger? If so, do you have any Wenger family info?

Kundert History

In 1977 my sisters were cashing travellers cheques at the train station in Zurich and were advised they shared the same name as the station manager, Rudolf Kundert. My sisters were taken to his office and he advised them that the name originated in Schwanden, Switzerland which is quite close to Glaurus, Switzerland. When we visted the town of Schwanden we were amazed to see our surname all over the place. Many of the businesses there were still operated by Kunderts. (We stayed at the Adler hotel which was owned by a Kundert.) We were advised to visit the archives in Glaurus. They have some of the best preserved archives in Europe. It was just incredible. We traced the Kundert name back to 1536 and came home with a copy of the family crest (German) and an information sheet on the Kundert name. One of the earliest mentioned Kunderts was of a Burgermeister (Mayor) It is believed that the name came from Conrad. The crest is authentic and shows a man in medevial clothing and hat holding up a comb like structure. (We don't know what it represents.) The information sheet said the coloring of the crest was silver. There were two branches of Kundert. German and French. Both have their unique crests. (If I remember correctly the French branch even had a fleur de lis.) At the time of our visit, the archivist had lost the thread of the Kunderts when they left Russia (Black Sea area) for North Dakota. (We think that is probably how our family arrived in Hilda, Alberta Canada via N.Dakota in the early 1900's. My grandfather arrived last in 1913.) One of my uncles from the Medicine Hat area shared this information with some of the North Dakota Kunderts. So if you see the crest and wonder at it's authenticity it is real. The archivist said he would welcome information from the North American Kunderts. (Mind you that was 1977!)

My great grandfather, Peter Kundert (b. 1863) came from Canton Glarus in 1892 from Switzerland with his wife, Elsbeth (b. 1864). Her maiden name was Gehrig. Peter's sister, Barbara, lived in the New York area. After Peter died (date unknown), Elsbeth remarried and took the last name of Held (sp?).
My mother has all the paperwork, and she's sending copies to me shortly. She doesn't like computers so I'm taking up the cause. I'll have more information soon, what little we have. if anyone knows about when Peter died, or more about their family back in Glarus, feel free to contact me.

My Kunderts and Feldmans came from Glarus, Switzerland and I do think I may have a Johannes Kundert in my files someshere, I will look for it tomorrow and see for sure. I am looking for info on Peter and Barbara Kundert Feldman. Barbara had a brother John Ulrich Kundert. Hope we can put our Kunderts together and help each other out. I will get back with you tomorrow. I don't know what time for sure, company coming in after lunch. Looking forward to hearing back from you, Brenda
