SUICIDE - Samuel Kupp, a highly respectable citizen of Union township, Berks county, residing opposite Douglassville, was found dead in the fodder entry of his barn, on Wednesday afternoon last, the 30th ult., between 4 and 5 o'clock. Mr. Kupp, who was a blacksmith, was engaged in the morning in shoeing horses for Mr. McKenty, and about 11 o'clock, A.M., he paid his hired man, Mr. Wert, some money, at which time he conversed as usual. Between 11 and 12 o'clock, the report of a pistol was heard, in the direction of the barn, but no one suspected what had really happened, and search was not made for him until late in the afternoon, when found by his wife.
The alarm was given and a number of persons soon collected together. David B Mauger, Esq., Justice of the Peace for Douglass township, was sent to hold an inquest over the body, and Dr. W C Bosset, of Douglassville to make a post mortem examination. The Jury, after retiring a short time, rendered the verdict that the deceased came to his death by a pistol shot by his own hands, charged with common shot. No cause is assigned to the rash act.
The deceased was in very good peunniary circumstances. He was interred on Satuday afternoon last, at the New Storeville cemetery.
His wife was Mary Y Linderman.
A daughter Sarah Rosanna Kupp b 1839 married William Henry LANDIS, my grgrandfather's brother. They lived in Pottstown and are buried at Mt Zion Cemetery.
