I have been told my ancestor, who was from near Baltimore, enlisted in Maryland in the summer of 1780, under Captain Barnes, Col. Lacey, and General Putnam. In 1781, he reinlisted, again under Captain Barnes and Col. Lacey. Does anyone know the first name of this Col. Lacey, and if he was the same person who was later the famous General (Edward) Lacey? Col. Lacey's men apparently fought in and around the Baltimore - Head of Elk area. Does anyone have a list of the men who were in Col. Lacey's company? I will really appreciate any help finding this information. Thanks!

Martin Lacey, Ex-Slave, Dies

Martin Lacey, ex-slave and picturesque Hutchinson (African American), died at 8 p.m. Sunday at Broadacres.

Lacey, long a familiar figure as he lounged on the fire escape steps at the rear of the Hutchinson State bank or on the north side of Beardslee’s store, had been in failing health several months.

No one knew exactly how old Lacey was, and he wasn’t sure of his own age. In conversation with William D. Hamilton, sign man who often befriended him, Lacey said he was about 16 when Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. That would have made him at least 96 years old.

In the years following the Civil war Lacey worked as a hod carrier in Hutchinson. He said he helped build many of the first brick and stone buildings in the south part of town. He went from here to Missouri but returned and spent the past 25 years or more in Hutchinson.

Lacey’s wants were few, his worries even fewer. As long as his chewing tobacco held out and the weather was nice he would sit by himself in the shade of a building and pass the time of day with passersby.

A number of years ago he became ill. Welfare workers made arrangements for Lacey to live at Broadacres. But that was too confining and he came back to town. However, he returned to Broadacres several months ago. Lacey had no known relatives.

Seeking information on the family of Lester R. BAKER and Charlotte Ada RUSSELL. Lester Baker is a 2 X great grandson of Alexander NEGLEY (1734-1809) of Pittsburgh, PA. I have been able to find the family in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, but not before that.

Questions: Where was Lester R. BAKER born in KS? I have his parents names (Charles Edward Baker and Elizabeth Eleanor LACEY).

Where was his wife, Charlotte Ada RUSSELL, born in IL? What were the names of her parents? When and where did Charlotte die?

I am searching for information on the LACEY(LACY) family in the Williamsburg
County, SC census 1810 through 1840.

WILLIAM LACY(LACEY) is in 1810 census with 3 sons less than 10 years of age
and a daughter 10-16 years of age.These children may be JAMES LACEY,
JONATHAN LACEY, WILLIAM LACEY and ELIZABETH LACEY.

JAMES LACEY is in 1830 census with 1 male under 5 years of age, 1 female
under 5 years of age, 2 females 5-10 years of age, and 1 female 30-40 years
of age. These should be JAMES LACEY's children: JOHN M. LACEY, SPININNAH
LACEY, SARAH ANN LACEY, and MARY ELIZABETH LACEY; and his wife RUTH HICKS
LACEY.

JONATHAN LACEY is in 1840 census with 1 female less than 5 years of age and
1 female 20-30 years of age. These should be his daughter, MARY ELIZABETH
LACEY, and his wife, SUSIEANNAH (maiden name unknown).

WILLIAM LACEY married SUSANNAH MCCLAM, daughter of SOLOMON MCCLAM.

The MCCLAM family and my LACEY family may have been from the Lake City, SC
area (while it was part of Williamsburg County).

JAMES LACEY, his wife RUTH HICKS LACEY, and their seven children migrated
from SC to Pulaski/Wilcox County, GA approx. 1842.

JONATHAN LACEY also migrated to Pulaski County, GA(possibly at a later time
than JAMES LACEY's family) with his family but they returned to SC in 1850.

ELIZABETH LACEY married JAMES HARVEY GORDON and they also migrated to
Pulaski/Wilcox County, GA.

There is also a JOHN GORDON in the Williamsburg County, SC census. We are
trying to determine if this JOHN GORDON is related to the JAMES HARVEY GORDON who married ELIZABETH LACEY.

Any information on any part of this family will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Hi i am resurching my grand father's parents. I hope some one could help.
My grandfather was Francis George Lacey (Frank for short)he was born in poole in the St James parish in 1886 in a house in Blue Bore Lane. I no the lane no longer excist as it has been built on.
I no His mother was Martha Mc Mullen her birth year is around about 1856.
The only info i have got is that on the sences for 1881 she lived with her parents and i think her sister and a Frank Harland who is regestard as son-in-law and i think is her daughter emma mary.
I cannot find anything about my great grandfather George Lacey all i no is that he was dead when my granddad married in 1918 in Sherborne Dorset.I also no he was a brick maker.
Francis had other siblings two sisters one called Bartola and the other called maud they were spinsters and lived in poole all their lives. he also had a brother who was in the first world war with him i no he died in the trenches as my granddad witnessed it.
I no that Bartola was born in 1895 as i have her birth certificate she was born at a place called Drakes Alley Poole could some one shed some light on were about's this is or was.

Hi guys... this is a plea for you to consider the family tree dna project.. you can find it by just typing that into google. The number of males with the Lacy/Lacey surname is slowly growing. There has yet to be a DNA match. If any of you would consider it the cost would seem small if we can get some matches through this site. They email you when matches come in. Then you would have another researcher that could share info and a place to focus your searches. It really does not pay to do the female dna test..as it does not help with genealogy. The more markers that you test for the closer you can get in generations. There is also a place to put your lineage and info and to see what other have posted. It really is very interesting and fun. So give it some serious thought! thanks Cheryl

I have a real tought one that I need help with looking for the parents of Robert lacey: I have documents that say Thomas lacey although not his real father gave him the name robert lacey. his mother was dorothy "bunch o trees" ( not her real firts name) she was indian and thomas lacey found them during indian wars. he is osage or cherokee and not listed on rolls but I do not know his indian name date of birth at around 1888 his parents are on his ss but no records of them.I dont know if thomas married dorothy?
Robert lacey did marry Elsie l king and had three children.
But I have no records of his mother or father, at one point I was told that mabey thomas lacey was a slave trader and took a fancy to her.

I would like to hear from any one that has records of Lacey, Lakey, Leake, Leakey, Leckie or any other spelling of the Lakey name between the period of Sir Walter Leaky born 1390 in Scotland and the birth of Alexander & William Leakey born in the 1720s in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Records from Scotland, Ireland, Canada, US or any other Country are welcome. Maybe if I get enough answers I can piece together a history of the Lakey family.

I know that my grandfather was born in the late 1800s and died around 1944 and that the first Lacey to come to America was Hugo De'Lacey back in the 1700 from that point on noone seems to know very much. I have an Ellen LACEY married James HOOK, marriage date unknown, she was born 1852 Weymouth. Her Grandfather was a Thomas LACEY born Mappowder. He was born 1885 to 1887.

He had three known children - Thomas born 1811, Elizabeth born 1815 and Thomas born 1826 all born Weymouth, George was a coal lumper as his father was, Thomas is listed as a mariner and Elizabeth as a Laundress.

Ellen could be Elizabeths child, but to be confirmed.

In 1910, they are listed as living in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio with sons Thomas E (19), Carl (16), Elmer (13) and Frederick (4). My line is the Frederick line. I recently came across a bunch( over 50) pictures in an estate sell from a lady named Ica Ethel Ratcliff whom married a Clifford Jerry Ratcliff, in Ross County, Ohio. On the back of on of the pictures says Father, Mother, Bessie, Helen Viola, please give this to Helen Merriman in Xenia Ohio when she dies signed Ica Ethel Ratcliff. Well after some search I found out her last name was Lacey. So could this bessie or Helen be her sisters? I'm not sure, can't find out much on my own. I would like to get these pictures to the family they go to if all possible some are very, very old early 1900's I would say. Ica and Clifford didn't have any children. Help~~~

Mr. George Lacey, an old resident of Franklin township, this county, died last week in Newark, Ohio, where he had resided during the past year. Deceased was 74 years of age, and was a man of high moral and religious character, and was greatly esteemed by all who knew him. The remains were taken to Adams Mills where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Castle, in the Presbyterian church following which interment took place in the cemetery near by. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the funeral, those from a distance being Mr. L.L. Lacy, of Columbus; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith of Trinway; Mr. H. McMorris and Miss Myrtle Lacy, of Chalfants; Miss Nellie Donaker, of Dresden; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Conger, of Newark.

The 1850 Census lists her as Mahalia Hutson 19 born VA. I'm assuming this was a second marriage for her husband John as the oldest child in the family listed with them is 9. The 1930 census indicates that Anna Lacey [Maher] was born in New York State; her parents were both born in County West? Mead, Ireland.
She married John Maher 1889/90; they had seven children; one son, 6 daughters. He was reportedly a fireman in New York City; died in 1904.
Anna and the children lived in Queens County [College Point at one time], New York for the next 20 or so years. It is possible that Anna was born in Westchester, New York as one of the children was born in Pelham in 1900.
I have been unable to find any further information about either Anna or John but have information about all of their children and descendants.
Any information about Anna or John would be most appreciated. Always happy to share.
