My dads name was Charlie Lackey but I never knew until his death because we were raised as Taylors. Charles Taylor Lackey (my dad) changed his name to John Lester Taylor somewhere between 1930 and 1937 when he married my mom. I first find Charles Lackey age 3 in Cataloochee NC and then again in 1930. Charles Lackey was still living with his mother Essie but she was living with Sam Valentine in Leicester NC with his brother Jess Lackey and their 2 new siblings Mary Valentine and Milburn Valentine. I keep wondering why daddy would change his name when his brother Jess Lackey didnt.
