Levi Lackey

Lin, Victoria Bond Kelley is my cousin who I keep in contact with via email mostly. I was wondering if it Possible that your Levi Lackey is a great grandson of our Isaac Lackey since they are almost 100 years apart in age. I also was wondering where Greens Corners is and I could not find it on some good maps that I have. I am assuming that it is somewhere near the Adirondack Mountain region since many of our family are from there. Some of those old towns are now "ghost towns" after a lot of the mining companies closed down and they do not appear on current maps. Keep in touch. lanaworks@odyssey .net Cousin, Lana

I don't have any idea about my family. All I know is that three brothers came to Alexander County in North Carolina in the 1700s and bought a bunch of land(i can't remember if it was 300 or 3000 acres). We still are living on the same land and have a Bible that they owned with some info but I have not got to read it. If anyone knows which county they came from (or which county any Lackeys came from)please post a response. Thank you

Lee Lackey

Info wanted on William Lackey of Antrim, Ireland

The William I'm trying to identify is the father of Andrew M. Lackey, born 31 March 1796 in North Carolina, and the grandfather of Andrew Jackson Lackey, born 08 March 1832 in Alabama. The (admittedly second or third-hand) information I have indicates that William Lackey was born around 1756 in Antrim, Ireland, immigrated to the Americas in 1773, and married Elizabeth White in Salisbury, North Carolina, in October of 1781. I'm looking to confirm or correct this information, as well as get any additional information about William's own ancestry.

Thanks very much!
Ken Dickinson

I am looking for more information about my GGG grandmother Josephine(ene) Lackey, she married Ichabod Hazelton. I know of only one child, Sarah Elizabeth, my GG grandmother. I believe Josephine's parents were Joseph & Sareptia (?) Lackey. I cannot find anything about them. If anybody has any information about them please contact me. I found them in a census for Granville, but have no idea if that was their last to live. I couldn't find any cemetery listings for them specifically. Any tidbit would be greatly appreciated.

Erin in Wells, VT

George Lackey and Essie Lackey

My dads name was Charlie Lackey but I never knew until his death because we were raised as Taylors. Charles Taylor Lackey (my dad) changed his name to John Lester Taylor somewhere between 1930 and 1937 when he married my mom. I first find Charles Lackey age 3 in Cataloochee NC and then again in 1930. Charles Lackey was still living with his mother Essie but she was living with Sam Valentine in Leicester NC with his brother Jess Lackey and their 2 new siblings Mary Valentine and Milburn Valentine. I keep wondering why daddy would change his name when his brother Jess Lackey didnt. If anyone has any knowledge of my daddy, please contact me at laconn47@yahoo.com I have so many unanswered questions on why or what someone could of done so bad that they would have to change their name. My dad is dead now so is my mom so it wouldnt matter to most folks but it does to me. Ive been trying to find the answer for 10 yrs with no results. Every search come to a dead end and I lost him in 1930 when he was still Charles Taylor Lackey. Im originally from Western NC but I live in Montana now and Im still searching. My name is Laura Taylor Reinholz and Id appreciate any help.

Daniel & Susan LACKEY, Oswego and Steuben Co., NY 1800's

Daniel Lackey (pronounced LaQuay), son of Jonathan and Mercy Simmons Lackey bought and sold land in Oswego Co, NY in 1837. In 1840 and 1850 he is enumerated in Addison, Steuben Co., NY.
In 1860 Steuben Co. only three of his daughters, Lydia, Susan and Mercy Elizabeth, are enumerated working as domestics in separate HHs.
Daniel was born in NY about 1810, married Susan ? before 1834, probably in Amboy, Oswego Co. NY. Susan ? was born about 1816 in MA.
Daniel's relationship to Jonathan is unverified by primary records but is almost certain based upon other records.
I have been unable to discover what happened to Daniel and Susan and their other children after 1850. (Other children - Eliza A. b: abt 1834, Benjamin b: abt 1836, Nancy E. b: abt 1847/8, and Daniel b: abt 1848/9.)
Daniel Jr. resurfaces in Steuben Co. in the 1890's & is enumerated as an elderly man in 1920 & 1930.
Anyone else attempted to research this line of Lackey's? If anyone has information about them I would really appreciate it.
Sue Davis

Armitte (y) Ann Lacky family

My grandfather, Joseph Keown, was married to an Armitte(y) Lacky in the late 1930's early 40's. She had a son Corky. I have a picture of my mother, Ella May, with Corky on a pony. I also have a picture of Prebble Ann Lacky age 9 months born May 26, 1940, that I would like to share. I would also like to know if Corky is still alive and can tell me anything about my mother in those years. She has passed away, but always spoke fondly of Corky.

Lackey Early History

I have been given a Lackey Family History book that was created by Richard S. Lackey. I'll type in the Early History portion here...some of you may be interested...

The Lackey family formed a part of the Scotch-Irish immigration that reached America during the 1700-1800s. These people were Scotch, who fled to Ireland about 1610 to 1625, because of the persecutions in Scotland. For almost a generation, conditions were rather pleasant and favorable for them in Ireland. In 1704, the Test Act was passed, and in 1714 the Schism Act was passed. These laws denied them their church and religious rights, and made living in Ireland almost unbearable for them. As soon as the way was open, they emigrated to America, where they could worship as their Presbyterian consciences dictated and weave their fine cloth without political interferences. By 1720, Lackeys were living in Pennsylvania, and beginning to drift southward. Some stopped in Virginia and took up land; still others moved into North Carolina and settled in Rowan, Guilford, Orange and adjoining counties. Other Lackeys moved into South Carolina, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and other states. In the second and third generations, the Lackeys left N. Carolina, and moved to Tennessee, Illinois and Alabama.

Corc, brother of Maldonen, the third Earl of Lennox, had a son Murdock, who had charters in the lands of Grey. His decendants in the time of David II had charters in the lands called "Leckie" and assumed that surname. Even today in Scotland and N. Ireland the stones used to line kilns are called "lecks" or "leck stones." We find many Leckeys lived in Gargunock, Stirlingshire, among them was Murdock Leckie.

When the Leckeys left Scotland or Ireland and went to Pennsylvania, the clerks were nearly all German and they wrote the name as they heard it said. In German the "a" is written with an "unlaut" over it, and is pronounced like a shore "e". A century later, when the books were nearly worn out they recopied them and left off the little mark over our "a", so Leckey became Lackey. Many of the old sesttlers never gave up signing their deeds, etc. Leckey, although the name is now spelled Lackey in the public records.

The name Leckey, Lecky, Leckie, etc. is the English spelling for the word "leach-ach" or nearly that pronunciation, which means "rocky" or "stony."

He worked with CIO, then the AFLCIO. His parents names we do not know were last heard from living in AL in the early 70's.

Hi: Came across an older post on this board for a Chyllion Lackey who m. Ann Smith and had son Levy @ Hebron, NY 1825. My line is Chillian H. Lackey, son of John B. Lackey and Mary Jane Howe. John B. also of Hebron, NY and b. abt 1819. Similarity between his son's name and this other is so striking for there must be some connection. A Chillion W. Lackey served for VT in the War of 1812. Likely same as "Chylion." Can anybody add to what I have spelled out here? Thanks.

Amanda D. Lackey Neff shows up in the 1880 census in Anna, as husband of CW Neff, and they are living with her father-in-law, M.A. Lackey. She and CW Neff were married in 1879. However, CW Neff was remarried in 1883 and turns up in MO census in 1900.
Trying to find out what became of Amanda, and if they had any children. Did she die? Remarry? Any ideas? Where should I look. I checked many on-line IL Trails databases. Really want to solve this brickwall and put this Amanda Neff to rest in my family tree.

Alexandra Campbell so you have any of the Alexander family history? There was a double connection with my family and yours with Annie Munnerlyn which I've been trying to trace. Annie Munnerlyn's mother was Mary Meyers who was first married to Joseph Munnerlyn, had 4 children, Lucy Ann, Mary Jane, Robert and Alexander. After his death she married Henry F. Alexander on 7 August 1870. John A.L. Lackey was bondsman. She was his 2nd wife. He also had grown children. His 1st wife was Martha Malone.
There is additionl information I can provide on others in this lineage if you are interested.
Linda
A Cottage Grove, OR newspaper article dated 1/12/1925 states that Robert Lacky has purchased the W. P. Huff estate on the old south Pacific Highway. This appears to be Robert Edmund Lacky (1866-1927), or maybe it is his son Robert Roy Lacky. We are trying to find the location of this estate. Can anyone help? The local historical society has been unable to help.
