Lacy family in Southwark / West Ham

I am searching for any decendants/information on the Lacy family who I know to have been in the Southwark area of London during the late 1800's. I know that one of the family was a 'George Lacy' a famous early pantomime music hall dame. The eldest member of the family I have found is an Edward Lacy who should have been born in the 1840's who later became a blacksmith.
Any information/contact would be gratefully recieved

African/American LACYS-of So. Boston/Bristol, VA

Need help finding Lacys from South Boston (Halifax County), VA and Bristol, VA. The maternal line is African and the paternal line is White. Armstead and Mary Lacy-slaves:early 1800's to mid. Dau:Annie Bettie (b. abt. 1865). Bettie's son:Stanhope (b.1885) was fathered by a unknown, white Lacy. Stanhope moved his family to Bristol, VA in the 1920's. The McPhails, Yancys, & Chandlers are associated names on the maternal side. I really want to ID the unknown Lacy that fathered my grandfather, Stanhope. I've been told he was a prominent business/community person at the time and lived into the early 1900's in South Boston, VA.

Alexander H. Lacy/Juliette Wilcox Lacy

I am seeking burial info for Alexander H Lacy (b 1840 Lacy Springs AL) and his wife Juliette (b 1841 MO). They were in Orange Co CA from about 1894 to 1916/7. His brothers Dr. John M and Theo Lacy are buried in Fairhaven Cemetery Orange Co CA. I can find no burial/death info for A.H. or his wife in Orange Co or in the California Death Index. He died 6 Jun 1918 and she died 21 Dec 1917. They may be buried in Van Buren Arkansas as this is where his family resided from about the 1850's having moved there from AL. His father James Henderson Lacy is supposed to have been killed by Union Troops at the family home in 1863 and he may be buried in Fairview Cemetery.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Margaret Alley

Martin Lacey an ex-slave (obit) d: 1945 Reno Co, KS (Black American)

(newspaper clipping)

Martin Lacey, Ex-Slave, Dies

Martin Lacey, ex-slave and picturesque Hutchinson (Black American), died at 8 p.m. Sunday at Broadacres.

Lacey, long a familiar figure as he lounged on the fire escape steps at the rear of the Hutchinson State bank or on the north side of Beardslee’s store, had been in failing health several months.

No one knew exactly how old Lacey was, and he wasn’t sure of his own age. In conversation with William D. Hamilton, sign man who often befriended him, Lacey said he was about 16 when Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. That would have made him at least 96 years old.

In the years following the Civil war Lacey worked as a hod carrier in Hutchinson. He said he helped build many of the first brick and stone buildings in the south part of town. He went from here to Missouri but returned and spent the past 25 years or more in Hutchinson.

Lacey’s wants were few, his worries even fewer. As long as his chewing tobacco held out and the weather was nice he would sit by himself in the shade of a building and pass the time of day with passersby.

A number of years ago he became ill. Welfare workers made arrangements for Lacey to live at Broadacres. But that was too confining and he came back to town. However, he returned to Broadacres several months ago. Lacey had no known relatives.

The Hutchinson News-Herald
Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas
Monday, July 23, 1945
page – 3 *** column – 4

---------------------------

Cemetery Records for Reno County Kansas 1865-1978 (book)

Eastside Cemetery
Clay Township
Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas

Martin Lacy – July 29 1945 – age 96

<

To living male Lacy's or Lacey's ~ Please Read !

Hi guys... this is a plea for you to consider the family tree dna project.. you can find it by just typing that into google. The number of males with the Lacy/Lacey surname is slowly growing. There has yet to be a DNA match. If any of you would consider it the cost would seem small if we can get some matches through this site. They email you when matches come in. Then you would have another researcher that could share info and a place to focus your searches. It really does not pay to do the female dna test..as it does not help with genealogy. The more markers that you test for the closer you can get in generations. There is also a place to put your lineage and info and to see what other have posted. It really is very interesting and fun. So give it some serious thought! thanks Cheryl

Patrick Lacy, born Tipperary 1801, died Rhode Island 1887

According to his headstone in St. Charles Cemetery in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, my g-g-g grandfather Patrick Lacy was also a "native of Co. Tipperary, Ireland." I'd like to connect with descendants of Patrick Lacy or to gather information regarding his background in Ireland. (I've posted to the Tipperary boards, as well.)

Patrick, 1801-1887, was married to Sarah (family name unknown), 1810-1885. Their first two children, Catherine (1839-1907) and Anna (1842-?), were born in Ireland. Children Peter (1843-?), John (1845-78), Johanna (1847-?), Margaretta (1849-before 1860), Michael (1849-before 1860), and Sarah T. (1854-1911) were born in Maine; Patrick F. (1856-1886) was born in Rhode Island. According to the censuses, they lived in Smithfield and then Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

I believe Peter returned to Maine and married Sarah McLaughlin (1846-?); Catherine married John Gilbert and remained in Woonsocket until her death; Anna (sometimes Hannah) married Loughlin Almon and remained in Woonsocket until her death; I have lost track of Johanna, who married Michael Heffernan; my g-g grandmother, Sarah, married Patrick Shunney and remained in Woonsocket until her death.

Until I began doing this genealogical work in the past year, my family had no knowledge of our ancestor Sarah Lacy Shunney's background (except that she was a professional storyteller and had been born in Maine). The above information has been gathered from family stories, information available online, church records, and visits to the cemetery in Woonsocket. I would love to connect with Lacy family descendants in the US and Ireland.

Any info or leads would be appreciated!!!

Maggie Gordon Froehlich

Descendants of George Warren Lacy (1857 Banks Co GA - 1933 Polk Co AR)

Looking for kinfolks and to exchange information --- specifically looking for descendants of my GGG-Grandfather George Warren Lacy, born 14 Jan 1857 Banks Co GA, son of William Jackson "Billy" Lacy and Martha Jane LNU.

George Warren Lacy had at least 3 marriages: Sarah Elizabeth Turner (m. 1878 Pickens Co GA), Iber E. LNU (m. 1905-1920 in OK or AR probably), and Lillian LNU (m. Abt. 1920 probably Mena, Polk Co AR).

Children of George Warren Lacy's were as follows:
Lula E. Lacy, b. 1879 Pickens Co GA
Julia E. Lacy, b. 1881 Pickens Co GA
Emery Sphere Lacy, b. 1884 GA, probably Pickens Co << my Great Grandfather
Mary Jane Lacy, b. 1886 GA, probably Pickens Co
Loney Lacy, b. 1889 GA, probably Pickens Co
Hiram Axum Lacy, b. 1892 Ga, probably Pickens Co
Rebecca Lacy, b. 1894, could be GA or TX or point in-between
James "Jimmie" Lacy, b. 1897 Commerce, Hunt Co TX
Roy Isaac Lacy, b. 1898 Commerce, Hunt Co TX
There was also one son by wife Iber E. LNU:
Augustus Lacy, b. 1926 in OK or AR

George Warren Lacy died 15 August 1933 at Mena, Polk Co AR and is buried at Pinecrest Cemetery there, as is his first wife, Sarah Elizabeth Turner. We suspect wives #2 and #3, Iber and Lillian, are possibly also buried at Pinecrest.

I have lots of info on George Warren Lacy, but equally as many questions! He was described by my grandfather, Marion Emory Lacy, as a "Campbellite preacher," by my great aunt as an "itenerant Baptist preacher," but his ministerial credentials from Pickens Co GA are from the Church of Christ and were filed at Mena, Polk Co AR when he moved to Mena. He travelled preaching, and doing odd jobs --- mainly carpentry but one census states "painter," leaving his family alone a great deal of the time. Still, they described him as a very loving man, though he was frequently on the road and away.

I have not found what became of all of his kids, though I do know some of them. If you are related, I would love to hear from you! Help me fill in the blanks on his descendants!

Karen

HAMMAN/HAMMOND(S) FAMILY REUNION

HAMMAN/HAMMOND(S) FAMILY REUNION
JULY 25-27, 2008, LEXINGTON, KY

The Phillip Hamman Family Association made up of descendants of Revolutionary War hero, Phillip Hamman, and his wife, Christina Cook, residents of Kentucky for over 40 years beginning in 1782, will be having its Bi-Annual Family Reunion in Lexington, Kentucky July 25-27, 2008.

Hamman/Hammond(s) cousins will be descending upon Lexington from Alabama, Arizona, California, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and, hopefully, many from all parts of Kentucky, as well as some new cousins from other states.

Headquarters for the reunion will be the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton, 1938 Stanton Way, Lexington, KY. Reservations must be made by June 30, 2008 to get the special Phillip Hamman Group Rate. Visitors may check in as early as July 23 and get the same special room rate. When you call for reservations be sure to tell them that you are part of the Hamman Reunion group and want the special group rate.

Brian Ann Wells Arnett of Versailles, KY is coordinating the reunion and could use some help from any of the Hamman cousins in the Lexington, KY area. For more information, contact Doris Brown Rose, President of the Association, by Email: rose0303@att.net

You don’t have to be registered at the hotel to participate in the reunion events, but reservations for the Saturday night banquet should be made by those not staying at the hotel. You can contact Doris Brown Rose at the above email address to make those banquet reservations.

Friday, July 25, a group trip is planned to Mt. Sterling, then to Slate Creek near Jeffersonville, Montgomery County, to visit the site where Phillip Hamman and Christina Cook lived for almost 40 years, followed by a group meeting at 7:00p.m. Friday night for the sharing of newly revised family group sheets for each of Phillip and Christina’s children. Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. will be the business meeting for the election of new officers, followed by the sharing of new family history discoveries from members and guests. A highlight of the reunion is always the banquet on Saturday night. The special guest speaker at the Saturday night banquet will be Charles E. Darnell, descendant of Henry Cook, brother of Christina Cook Hamman.

The reunion is also open to all Hamman, Hammond(s), or any other variation of the spelling of that surname, even if you are not a descendant of Phillip and Christina.

Anyone who is a descendant of Phillip Hamman who is interested in becoming a member of DAR or SAR might especially want to attend this reunion. One member of the Association, Beverly Jay Martin, is a DAR Genealogy Consultant, has generously offered to help anyone who needs help with the application process. The service for Phillip Hamman has already been proven, as have the lines of each of his children, so it is a minor thing to get the papers in order for applying for membership in either organization. At the present time there are 88 descendants of Phillip Hamman in the DAR Descendants Database. Also, children from birth to age 21 can become members of CAR, Children of the American Revolution. The Phillip Hamman Chapter of CAR, located in Jackson, Breathitt County, KY, was named for our ancestor. James Bach Strohmeier, a former president of the Phillip Hamman Family Association, is now serving as its Senior Advisor/Sponsor. He would love to have some additions to his chapter.

This is only the fourth time in the 37 year history of the Phillip Hamman Family Association that the reunion has been held in Kentucky. The previous Kentucky based reunions were in Louisville in 1974, and in Lexington in 1982 and 1994. So, all of you Kentucky Hamman/Hammond(s) cousins might want to mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend this year’s reunion as it will probably be at least ten years before the next one will be back in Kentucky. Other reunions have been held in Chattanooga, TN; Little Rock, AR; Salt Lake City, UT; Seattle, Washington; Corinth, MS; two meetings in Oklahoma City, OK; two in Dallas, TX; two in San Francisco, CA; and four meetings in Alabama in the towns of Fort Payne, Guntersville, and twice in Huntsville.

The Phillip Hamman Family Association was formed in 1971 with the dedicated purpose of (1) gathering data about the family of Phillip and Christina Hamman and their descendants, (2) creating a giant database of information on the family to be shared by all, (3) locating the graves of all of the children of Phillip and Christina and placing markers on those that were unmarked or “poorly marked”, (4) to hold a reunion every two years, and (5) to publish a semi-annual newsletter as a means of keeping in touch with members on a regular basis. Because of the dedicated work of many Hamman cousins, all the purposes of the Association have been met, especially in the area of locating the descendants of Phillip and Christina. At the present time there are over 17,000 proven descendants who have been identified.

In recent years, the family researchers have also greatly increased their efforts to obtain information on the descendants of Valentine Cook and Anna “Susannah” Baughman, parents of Christina Cook, and the associations’s database on this family has been growing also.

CHILDREN OF PHILLIP HAMMAN & CHRISTINA COOK:
1. John Hammond, born August 19, 1781, Cook’s Fort, Greenbrier Co. VA; died December 1, 1854, Bloomington, Morgan Co. KY (now Magoffin Co. KY); married Margaret “Peggy” Evans. Children: (1) Mary “Polly” Hammond married 1st Benjamin Clemons, 2nd William Lumpkin, 3rd William Day. (2) James Hammond married Edy Henry. (3 ) Jilson P. Hammond married Mary “Polly” Franklin.

1.
Stephen E Lacy b.1805 CT in Ohio in 1840

I'm trying to find the parents of Stephen. I'm hoping this will lead me to the parents of Daniel Somers Lacy b.1816 CT. I suspect they might be brothers since Stephen named his children with the same family names as my line (Daniel and Charles). Apparently, the family moved from CT before the 1820 census. Stephen went west to Ohio and Daniel went to NJ around the same time of 1840. Stephen married Sarah from NY, which clicks.

The mystery of Daniel's lineage has gone on for at least 40 years and I'm determined to solve it! So far, the census data and all known family trees have come up empty.

Thanks,
Robert

Daniel Somers Lacy b.Oct 1815 CT

The elusive father of DS Lacy Sr. has been sought in vain for decades. Can anyone help? He married Sarah Leeds b.1824 and had children Daniel, Joel, Charles, Mark and Ann in NJ. He was grandfather to my GGrandmother, who told me a lot about him but not about his parents. I believe he moved to NY state at a young age and doesn't show on any CT census. He died in NJ in 1902. If he's from the Stratfield, CT area line, I can't be sure.

I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

I am searching for information on Lacy or Akers family that married into the Bettis family in Morristown, TN.
Columbus Bettis married Julia Akers.
Their children were:
Mary K.
Charles
Ruby
Allen
Willis
Julia must have died and it looks like Columbus married Martha Unknown. I'm not sure where the children went. Mary K. and Willis lived with Walter Akers on the 1910 census.

I'm a little confused about just who Columbus' father was. Was he Bradley or David????

As near as I can tell Columbus had a sister Martha Bettis who married Walter Akers.
Children were:
Carl
Letha

Julia and Walter Akers were brother and sister to John Thomas Akers who married my Mary Lacy.
Their son was William Sherman Akers.

Mary Lacy Akers is my direct line. She and her family:
William G. Lacy
Eliza Weaver Lacy
Edgar A.
Nola , Nola married John Ervin Lance in NC but moved to Morristown about 1920.
Walter Nelson Lacy, lived in Knoxville.

lived in Morristown between 1880 and 1900. Mary married John Akers in this time and stayed but the rest of her family moved to Hot Springs, NC. Mary Lacy Akers family are all buried there in the Jarnigan and Morristown Cemeteries.

Can anyone help me find information about a Grocery Store that John Akers and John Lance worked in between 1900 and 1930 , birth , marriage or death dates or pictures of them.

Thanks in advance for your help.
Barbara

Mary Etta Painter / Lacy / Hedrick, 1866-1944, Indiana

Mary Etta was a daughter of Andrew and Eliza Ann (Gobble) Painter, born April 1866 in Indiana. Andrew died apparently in early to middle 1870, and Mary Etta was placed in the household of a childless couple, John R. and Susan E. (Boyd) Lacy, of Morgan County, Indiana. “Marietta” Painter, age 4, was enumerated in the Lacy household in 1870 census, and—as Mary E. Lacy, age 14—in the 1880 census.

Mary E. Lacy and James M. Hedrick (b. 1861) married 12 Apr 1881 in Morgan County. According to the 1910 census (Morgan County), she had eight children, of whom six were living. These children included Edgar (b. 1889), Agnes Sylvia (b. 1892), Alta G. (b. 1895), Minnie O. / Opel M. (b. 1899), and Conrad (b. 1906).

Mary E. had a younger sister, Mary Adeline, who grew up in the household of her mother and stepfather William R. Roe in Illinois. Mary Adeline (Painter) Tidrick’s 1928 obituary specifically mentions among survivors “one sister, Mrs. Mary Hedrick of Cloverdale, Indiana.”

Cross-posted to the Painter, Lacy, Hedrick, and Morgan County, Indiana boards.

EEP

DATA: Lacy, D. listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Lacy, D.

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

WWII Veteran Harry E Lacy

I am searching for a veteran of WWII, Harry Lacy, who served in the 561st Field Artillery Battalion. He would have been born between 1906 and 1925. I've checked the World War II Memorial Registry, and gathered all the data I can from the Social Security Death Index and the 1930 Census. Unfortunately, both the SSDI and 1930 Census do not give me anything on military service for WWII.

I am posting messages to hopefully get some info directly from veterans or their family. I will be pursuing getting data from the Army Records Center in St. Louis. Maybe the combination of sources will work for me.

The 561st FA Bn has an informal association, and an annual reunion; thus this work to find WWII veterans of the unit.
William Lacy/Lacey Family in Williamsburg County, SC 1790-1850

I am looking for information on the LACEY(LACY) family in the Williamsburg County, SC census 1790 thru 1850.

WILLIAM LACY(LACEY) is in 1810 census with three sons less than 10 years of age and a daughter 10-16 years of age. These children should be James, Jonathan, William, and Elizabeth.

JAMES LACEY is in 1830 census with one male under 5 years of age, one female under 5 years of age, two females 5-10 years of age, and one female 30-40 years of age. These should be James' children: John M., Spininnah, Sarah Ann, and Mary Elizabeth; and James' wife RUTH HICKS LACEY.

JONATHAN LACEY is in 1840 census with one female less than 5 years of age and one female 20-30 years of age. These should be his daughter, Mary Elizabeth, and his wife, Susieannah.

The younger WILLIAM LACEY married SUSANNAH MCCLAM. Their family is listed in the 1850 census with the following children: J.M., Solomon, Laney, Sarah, James, and Mary.

JAMES LACEY, his wife RUTH HICKS LACEY, and their seven children migrated from SC to Pulaski/Wilcox County, GA approx. 1840-1842.

JONATHAN LACEY also migrated to Pulaski County, GA (possibly at a later time than James' family) with his family but they returned to SC approx. 1850.

ELIZABETH LACEY married JAMES HARVEY GORDON and they also migrated to Pulaski/Wilcox County, GA.

Also in the 1790 Williamsburg County census there is a SARAH LACEY listed as head of household with three females and there is a JAMES LACEY with two males up to 16 years of age, three males 16 years of age and older, and one female. We are looking for any information on these families and any connection they may have to the LACEY (LACY) families listed above.

ANY information on any part of this family would be greatly appreciated.

Rod Lacey
RodLacey@aol.com
