Enoch Lada, Father of Edward Joseph Lada, Sr.

Not sure whether this helps anyone with their tree...and perhaps im hopeful my family can latch on to someone elses tree so I can find out more about my own personal family history. Anyway, My name is Edward Joseph Lada, Jr. I am the son of Edward Joseph Lada, Sr. and Brenda Sue Phares Lada. My grandfather was Enoch Lada and my grand mother is Carmen Beltran Lada. What I know is that my grandfather Enoch was, i believe, a merchant marine and met and married my grandmother in Vera Cruz, Mexico. They then moved to New Orleans. Ive been told that my last name is Polish. Hope this helps someone!

edwardlada@aol.com

Hey Lorraine!
I know you posted this forever ago . . . but I've begun to research my "family tree" and saw that some names you mentioned synched up with some info I have. My name is Brandee Lada, my father is Charles and he is from St. Louis, MO. His father was Chester and Chester's brothers were Edward and Paul. Their father was Anthony and their mother was Frances. Please let me know if all this synchs up with what you know. From what I've been told, Edward didn't have any daughters, just sons and none of the boys (Chester, Edward, or Paul) had middle names . . . my sources of direct info are limited and aren't definite . . . it would be so great if you could contact me.

brandee1984@hotmail.com

Re: Lada information

One origin for the name Lada Is that it was a name created at Ellis Island aproximately 1910 when Francis Lada came to USA from Poland. His Polish name had an "L" with a horizontal line through the upright in the "L" and it was pronounced Wada. Since this letter did not exist in the english alphabet it was changed at Ellis Island to a similar looking letter although with a different pronouciation.

Yes we have spoken before. I thank you for the tip on 'Ollie' I have suspected for some time that my Ollie and Alexander are one and the same but can not document it. The birth dates are so similar and there is no further records to be found on Alexander anywhere. One of Ollie Walter's children is still living, however he is not aware of his surroundings, and his spouse has no knowledge of his family line. Perhaps I will gently nudge her for information again. Maybe on some slip of paper somewhere, someone accidently put down ollie's full name as alexander. Wouldn't that be great. Stanislaw Lada went by Steve, as did his son. However in more recent generations they have used the more american Stanley as a nickname. Also, now that I have documented Stanislaw and Steve as one and the same, I have put a gedcom file at ancestry. Hope it helps someone.

Stanislaw Steve Lada, chzech., Poland, Missouri USA,

Stanislaw 'Steve' (Stive) Lada born February 1854 in Russia Poland. He married Helena Solvceska. She was born 1864 in Russia Poland.

Stanislaw is buried in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis,MO. Section 16, Lot oooT, grave # 324. Calvary Cemetery records page 386. There is no headstone, however I did photograph the location of the grave.

Stanislaw "Steve" Lada's children are:
1.Stanislaus 'Steve" -born December 1883 Russia Poland
2.Stella -born December 1885 Russia Poland
3.Joseph -born December 1887 Russia Poland
4.Ollie Walter -born January 6,1890 Russia Poland
5.Alexander -born February 1891 Russia Poland
6.Thomas -born December 1896 Missouri, USA
7.Leo -born June 1898 Missouri
8.Annie- born April 1899 Russia Poland

Also I am trying to connect:
Julia Lada of St. Louis to Stanislaw 'Steve' Lada. Julia's son John Struminski married Stanislaw's grand daughter Leona Agnes Lada. It is also thought that Julia had siblings Helen and Frank.
Adam Lada of St. Louis to Stanislaw 'Steve' Lada. Adam is married to Josephine 'Jozepha'. Adam and Josephine 'Jozepha' are buried together in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Stanislaw 'Steve' Lada is buried with a girl by the name of Josephine Lada age 13.

I am a descendant through Stanislaw's son Ollie Walter Lada who is also buried in Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis,MO. with his wife (Opal Agnes Hynes) and in-laws (James Harlan Hynes and Nannie Mary Yates) Ollie is not listed on the 1900 census with his parents and 7 siblings, HOWEVER, Ollie did name them specifically on his social security application as his parents. POSSIBLY there was an error on the census and Ollie and Alexander are one and the same??????

Ollie Walter Lada had a son Ollie Charles Lada (my grandfather) who is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis,MO. along with his wife (#2) Cleopatra Hennessey. Wife #1 Goldie Ellen Sutton was my grandmother.

Anything sound familiar? you can contact me directly.
Ollie Walter Lada is my great grandfather, his wife was Agnes Opal hynes. I am told that Ollie's father is the man who immigrated to the u.s. and that the name was origionally polish and was something close to Wadajapolski,WadaPolski,Wada,Lada. That ollie's father Steve was made to change the name upon immigration to a more American sounding name. Steve's wifes name was Helen. And they immigrated to the u.s. 1890.

I am SO SORRY that I did not get back to you sooner!!! For some reason this message board did not inform me that I had a reply to my origional message. I believe that we may be cousins! My great grandfather Ollie Walter Lada had a son Edward James Lada who married Mary Louis Haiduk. They in turn had children named Edward James and Debra Darlene. I have spoken to Aunt Lou some time ago, and she was very helpful, but this line is a bear to research. Edward James Sr. is a brother to my grandfather Ollie Charles Lada. All of the St. Louis, MO area. I do have some more info on the Lada line since I last posted to this site and will GLADLY share. PLEASE contact me directly at tlada@gateway.net and we can exchange and share info. Thanks Terrie

OH, that name change!!!

Our name has been the thorn in my side for years now. Several suggestions for the name change have also been made to me. Some include: Wada, Wadja, Wadapolski, Ladapolski, and Ladowski. I have found that the name Lada, when spelled using the Polish alphabet appears to spell WADA. The L in Polish is similar to L/ when written. My Lada line came 'origionally' from slovakia, to Warsaw, Poland to the U.S. Another point of interest is that Ladapolski roughly translates to "the Lada's from, or of Poland." I went so far as to send a letter to every Lada in the Missouri white pages and received only one response back (out of 30) Apparently we are not a social group. HaHa. So the search continues, and I am sorry to say that I do not know for certain what the origional spelling was. But if/when I do find out you'll hear me yelling it from the rooftops.

Sorry it took so long to reply- computer has been in storage while moving.

I would like to exchange information, You must definitely be related!
*I have Leo born on June 26 1899 in Missouri. He did indeed serve in the U.S. Army as a mechanic, and later, on the railroad as a machinist/mechanic. Using the age listed on his service record I believe this one to be mine.
*I also have another Leo who is married to Jessie Irene Lawson with a son Leon Eugene Lada born April 22, 1922. Leon Eugene Lada is later listed as an orphan in the St. Louis Protestant Home. However, Jessie Irene Lawson lived until 1989 so I question the accuracy of the information that I received from Jessie's descendants.

Email me directly at
hoelting8@aol.com

Thanks T

Terri, I think you and I have corresponded bedfore..My last name is Lada. My Grandpa Stanley Lada was born in the village of Sadykiersz, near Pultusk, in the Russian area of Poland in 1888.He emigrated to Toledo Ohio in 1910. I have not been able to establish any connection to the St. Louis Ladas, but that possibility certainly cannot be ruled out.
Just as a point of info: I had an Uncle Ollie (not a Lada) whose given name was
Aloysius. The family spelled his nickname "Allie" but pronounced it "Ollie" . So your Alexander could very well be "Allie = Ollie". After all, Wladysawa ends up as Lottie,so
anything is possible! Happy hunting!

dear Terrie..the name Lada is the same( in the Polish records that I have viewed
from Pultusk county, Mazowiecki province) since the early 1700's. The line through the "L" gives it the pronunciation of "Wada" and it means "order or harmony". Various endings are added to make the dative case as in "Ladzina"...which would refer to a woman coming from the "house of Lada" or Ladovna ,Ladzov or other similar variations that I have seen in the records. I have not seen the Lada name in a German province, only in the Russia areas. But this comes from my own personal experience...I have also found the name does have a "crest" coming from the clan "Lada" from the 1400's. And always, the line is through the "L". Hope this puts your mind at ease.
Please feel free to email me directly at FranniLada@aol.com
Best of luck in your search.
Fran
