I am not at home right now where I have my old photos stored to Picassa but I would be happy to share any I have with you. I have not posted them to my tree because I don't know how to lift them from Picassa to do that! So if you give me your email address I can send them to you. I hope they are photos you will feel connect to your line!

I am pennydollahon@yahoo.com

Ladners definately weave in and out of my family tree through my grandmother, Lelia Lepre (Taylor). The family seems to have settled in and around Biloxi for generations.

All best to you!

Penny

I COULD BE WRONG. SOUNDS LIKE MARIA ELENORE LADNER COULD BE THE DAUGHTER OF MARIE ELEANORE RICHA4RD AND ANTIONE LADNER.
I DO THINK I AM CORRECT:MARIE ELENOR RICHARD AND ANTIONNE LADNER MARRIED, HARRISON H.C.

HER MOTHER WAS MARIE ELEANORE RICHARD AND FATHER WAS NARCISSE RICHARD. THEY HAD ABOUT 21 OR 22 OF THESE CHILDREN. MY RECORDS SHOW THAT CELINA WAS BORN IN 1867 AND MAY BE LAST CHILD THEY HAD.

HER SIBLINGS:
CHRISTOPHE 1846
MARIE ZELINE 1848
ROMAIN 1852
ARMAND 1854
BASILE 1855
FELECITE 1858
LUCIEN 1850
MOISE EDGAR 1862
ARMANTINE 1865
CELINA 1867

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS THE FAMILY YOU ARE LOOKING FAR.
It's been a few years since you posted this.

Are you still active in this community? I may have some answer to your question on why some of the Bowden's moved here.
James Bowden and Mary Ann were my GGGrandparents. Their daughter Martha married Penry Woodford in 1893. He was from Wales and many of the Woodfords migrated to Alabama as coal miners. I presume at some point, after Mary Ann died, he moved to Alabama also.

This is just guessing at this point, but James married Elisabeth after Mary Ann's death. I have not detemined whether she is from Pennsylvania or Alabama.

Theresa

Re: Ladner family

There are French Ladners that moved to the Mississippie area, My German Ladner family members can be found in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and other parts of Canada; Vermont, Massachusettes, Delaware, New York, and probably other areas of the USA.

The easiest way to back track information may be to search the death record of the most recent family member who has died. You can search the social security death index (not sure of the name) and get birthdates and places of birth, work backwards child to parent and try not to skip any generations. By doing this, it will be easier to find the line you came from and I am sure with the history already done on the Ladners that you will likely find a completed line that goes back to the early 1800s at least. It may take three to four generations back to connect it.

You might want to see if your Ladner connects to John "Andrew" Ladner from Germany who after serving as a loyalist in the revolutionary war moved to what is now Prince Edward Island Canada. There is a gook "Island Herritage" with much information about this. Some of these Ladner connections moved to Vermont and New York.

What you have just posted is the same as what I have.

And you are right about cousins marrying cousins all over the place. My husband is my 6th cousin, ha. No that 6th really counts. His mother was also a Ladner as was her mother and my mother as well. We share some of the same second cousins though on account of his great Uncle marrying my Great Aunt.

Michelle

Are you asking if Julien was born in Switzerland? I have him as being born in Hancock County, Ms on Feb 15,1800. His father Jean Baptiste as being born in Bay St, Louis, Hancock County April 16 1767, and his father Jean Baptiste being born in Ms around 1724, now J.B.1's father Christian Ladner was the one born in Switzerland. Most of this information is according to Nap Cassibry's book The Ladner Odyssey. As to why Christian would be from Switzerland as opposed to France, well, the countries are neighbors, and many times families crossed borders for various reasons. Randall Ladnier is working on the Swiss connection and we are all waiting patiently on the outcome.
Hope this helps.
Oh! I thought you thought that Celestine Ladner married Julien Ladner but he was her father...

Anyway, it's all pretty confusing when there were these same families inter-marrying so much. But I think that was common when areas were sparsely populated and even Roosevelt married Eleanor - his first cousin, I think!

My late mother mentioned these family names(on her mother's side) ; Ladner, Moran, Fountain, Lepre, Saucier, Fayard...I don't recall Cuevas, but I don't think she knew anything that far back. And I suppose you have read my posts that she mentioned Choctaws and an 1857 half dime given her mother by an "Indian grandmother"? I have that coin and it is pierced (I think so that it could be worn on a string). Even so my mother seemed to be in doubt as to whether the Indian connection was true or just a fanciful family tale. So I didn't really believe it, either! Now I do! I think that's pretty exciting!

Penny

I am sort of clumsey at doing research - I tend to stuble on things and then get busy with life (grandchildren!) and stop for a while, then go back. Your information is like gold to me! Wonderful!

Julien was born in 1800 and Celestine wasn't born until 1825. Celestine married Edouard Morin....

I have gathered most of my info. online...but I've seen it duplicated so I have thought that it wwas correct.
Greetings!

My Moran connections go through my G grandmother, Celina Moran - her father. Edouard Moran, his father Pierre Pedro Moran? That's as far as I can go.

I am frankly confused by this "Pierre Pedro" thing and also mixed info. regarding if my ancestors were Italian or French or even Spanish? My grandmother Lelia Agnes Lepre Taylor spoke French to my mother when she didn't want me to know what she was saying! Lovely sweet lady - she died when I was nine. I have a photo of her mother Celian Moran if you are interestd in that line or know of anyone who is.

All best ~

Penny

Searching for info. regarding my GG grandmother's line. She was Celestine Ladner, whose father was Julien L., then Jean Baptise L. (jr.), his father also Jean Baptiste L., his father apparently Luis Christian Ladner. Basing most of this on info on this website but the dates and ages and location (Miss.) seem to fit. Mystified as to how it is that Julian was born in Switzerland as I expected France would be his birthplace!

Any guidance or corrections would be appreciated!

Penny

I believe that Luis Christian Ladner was my GGGGGG grandfather. He was born in Pratigau Kanton Graubunden Seewiss, Switzerland May 5, 1690 if my research is correct.
Maried Marie Barbe Brunel in Alabama in 1723 and died in Mississippi, date uncertain. He would have to be a much more distant relative to your mother than a mere GGG I am sure - if this the same man. Or of course maybe he had a son or a grandson named Christian in your line. I am related to him through his son Jean Baptisite, or so I believe.

Hope this helps you!

Penny

Howdy from Houston ~

Really not sure about where I am with this but my gr. gr.gr. grandfather was Julien Ladner b. 1800 prob. in Miss. I have that he was married to Elena Helene Cuevas who died in 1842. Don't have his date of death = perhaps he remarried Georgina Nicaise? I am wondering if my ancestry.com info. might be confusing me...I know that Julien's daughter was my gr. grandmother CELESTINE LADNER and her husband was Edouard Morin! So...did I get into the Cuevas line when I belong in the Nicaise line?

All Mississippi folks for the most part...

Here's hoping I connect with you!

Penny

Yes! I think so! Just made so much Ladner headway recently - knew very little...don't know the Borsarge line...? Did Luis marry Marie Barbe Brunel?

My mother was Olga Eva Taylor
her mother Lelia Agnes Lepre
her mother Celina Moran
her mother Celestine Ladner
her father Julien Ladner
his father Jean Baptisite Ladner (jr.)
his father Jean " " (sr.)
his father Luis Christian Ladner?

Hope this helps!

I have a photo of Celina... recall two sentimental old old songs my gr.mother Lelia sang to me as a child which might be a Ladner Legacy (who knows?) She died when I was 9 in 1959.

Hope this is of interest or helps you in some way...

Penny Dollahon - Houston

Oh my goodness!

My gr.gr.gr. grandmother was Elena Helene Cuevas and she married Julien Ladner! Just discoverd this in recent months!

Their dau. Celestine was my gr. gr. grandmother, then her daughter Celina Moran was my gr. grandmother, her daughter Lelia Agnes Lepre my grandmother - she died when I was 9(1959) Lovely sweet lady.

I have a photo of Celina. Happy to share. Also I recall two quaint old "family" sentimantal songs Lelia sang to me and can share the lyrics and melody - may very well be Ladner legacies but don't know of course. She spoke French to my mother!

Hope I catch you - I think your posting was in 2000!

All best ~

Penny

This is so interesting to me...my gr. gr. grandmother was Celestine Ladner, daugh. of Julien L. in Mississippi. My gr. grandmother was Celina Moran (b. 1845).

Also my late mother hinted at Indian connections somewhere...she said Choctaw? Direct to me or not, I don't know. Pretty fascinating, though!

I have a photo of Celina in case you're interested. Also two old quaint sentimental songs my grandmother sang to me in the 50's when I was a child...maybe Ladner legacies?

All best ~ Penny

another relation I suppose!

Wow! Count me in, then!

My gr. gr. grandmother was Celestine Ladner...I have a photo of my gr. grandmother Celina Moran if that is of any interest to you?

Used to visit Biloxi with my late mother from time to time...(I am 57). My grandmother used to sing two little quaint songs to me as a child (she died when I was 9). Don't know if they were Ladner legacy tunes but they were sentimental...mother to or about a child...recall the melody and lyrics at least in part so am having my music prof. bro in law score them out for me soon...

Happy to share anything!

Penny

Greetings!

My gr. grandmother's mother Celestine Ladner was a Mississippi native, as were most of the Ladners in my family dating back to Jean Baptiste Ladner (Sr.) born in Miss. in 1724. We must be connected! Don't know anything about that road...my late mother had a strong Biloxi history.

Let me know if I can be of any help! I'm not very skilled but enthusiastic!

Penny

Greetings!

My Ladner link follows yours down to Julien Ladner marrying Elena Helena Cuevas. Then their daughter (my gr.gr. grandmother) Celestine Ladner married Edouard Morin and their daugh. was my gr. grandmother Celina Moran (Morin?), mother of my grandmother Lelia Agnes Lepre. She died when I was 9 and actually I have memories of two little quaint songs she entertained me with. I am going to have my musician brother-in-law write out the melody for me! Maybe they came thru the Ladner line...who knows? She spoke French to my mother.

I am confused. Is Ladner also Ladnier? Is that a French name? How was the ancestor born in Switzerland? Any ideas about trades, professions, etc.?

All best!

Penny Dollahon

Wondering if this occured by any chance among the Ladner line, as my mother told me this happened somewhere in her family (Lepre, Moran, Ladner...?) all living in and around Biloxi, Mississippi in the 1800's. I think the children of these couples would have been "double first cousins"?

Thanks!
