Celia LaFave

I'm looking to find the parents and siblings of Celia LaFave. Celia must have been a nickname. She may have gone by LeFebvre (or something like that). The US 1880 Census said that she was 19 (so she must have been born in 1861), born in NY, married to Henry Coulier (b. 1860)in Malone, Franklin County, NY. Henry Coulier's family also went by the surnames Quillia, Qulia, Coalier, Coallier. She had in 1880 a daughter named Nellie. I am trying to find out if she is at all related to Ida LaFave b. 1888 and married Henry's nephew Arthur Qulia (Quillia) Kulia. Mostly, I'd like to know who her siblings and parents were and then maybe I could place her. There were soooo many LaFaves and LeFebvres in that area back then.

Lafave surname has many ancestral lines

There were several men surnamed Lefebvre who emigrated to Quebec and had sons to carry on the name. Many of those sons and grandsons adopted "dit" names which helped people know "which Pierre Lefebvre", etc. When searching for ancestors in these lines pay close attention to the dit names.

The most common are:
LEFEBVRE dit ANGERS
LEFEBVRE dit BELISLE
LEFEBVRE dit BOULANGER
LEFEBVRE dit DESCOTEAUX
LEFEBVRE dit DUPLESSIS
LEFEBVRE dit FABER
LEFEBVRE dit LACISERAY
LEFEBVRE dit LACROIX
LEFEBVRE dit VILLEMURE

You may find your ancestors under either name in the vital records.

Thomas LaFave b. Sept 30, 1830, QC; d. June 9, 1897 Chaboygan, MI

Looking for relatives and info on Thomas LaFave. First marriage to Lucy Ann Winn, July 13, 1857 in Kalamazoo, MI. Second marriage to Laura J Lipscomb, Oct 11, 1866.
Known to have lived in Kalamazoo Co. 1857-1861, Macomb Co. 1867-1884, Cheboygan Co. 1887-1897. Worked as a stone mason. Died in Cheboygan Co. in 1897.

During the 1800's many hundreds of Lefebvres left Quebec for English Canada and the USA. Finding themselves in an English speaking environment, most of these people simplified their Lefebvre name so it would be easy for the English speaking people to spell. Hence you get Lafave, Lafavor, Lefeve, Lafaivre, plus about 20 other variations. In France and Quebec you will only find Lefevre or Lefebvre, which is the correct original spelling. paul_k2001@yahoo.com

I am beginning to wonder if I am chasing a phantom! Here's hoping someone has a clue...

My great grandfather was Ernest Hunt according to my great grandmother's obituary & death certificate and her dau. obit. The 1930 census shows my g-grandmother Priscilla with 3 children at home - Ernest L., Ruth & Myrtle. Marital status is listed as "D" - but obit & death cert both have her married to Ernest Hunt. So either legally separated or as staunch Catholics, they did not recognize the divorce?

Priscilla, b. 1882, Mich. Leelanau Co. - maiden name: LaFave. Parents George & Virginia (Brow) LaFave, both b. Canada (Fr). She is not in the 1900 census with parents. Died 17 Nov 1952 in Kent. Co., Grand Rapids. Death Cert states she had lived in the area 50 yrs. I cannot find ANY of this Hunt family in the 1920 census.

Obits & Census records provide following info on the children:: Ernest L, Jr., (living in Compton CA in Jan 1953)Mrs. Joseph/Barney (Thelma) Bartnick, Mrs. Jack (Agnes) Rea/Rae, Mrs. Rensal (Elaine) Allen, Mrs. John (Ruth) Overmire, Mrs. Tony (Myrtle) Battaglia.

Priscilla's siblings included a Mose or Moses L. LaFave who also lived in Grand Rapids. B. 1891, Leelanau Co. D. Aug 1957, Grand Rapids. His widow: Pearl. His sons: George, Ernest, Robert (all of GR) & Edward in Omaha Neb. His daughters: Mrs. Arthur Vander Wolde & Mrs. Ralph Dyer (both of GR).

Priscilla also had 2 older sisters: Virginia who married a Belanger & lived in Lake Leelanau area. Rosa M. who married Fred J. Bowen and had 4 sons (William C., Walter Alfred, George M. & Fred Ethan). The Bowens moved from Leelanau & I found them in the 1930 census in Muskegon Co.. Walter is not there but Wm. is married to "Dollie M"

Ernest Hunt seems to have been a popular name. I am at a brick wall on this one & hoping it connects to SOMEONE! Thanks.

Looking for information on my great great grandparents.
John Lefebvre born 1835 in Montreal Canada married to Catherine (?) born 1842 also in Montreal Canada. They were married in 1870 in Montreal. In about 1877 they came to the U.S.A. and settled in the Dakota Territory (later Union South Dakota). They had 3 children born in Canada, Albert (Herbert in Canada), Louis and Clara. Two more children were born to them in the Dakota Territory, Amidos and Regina.

I'm looking for info on my Grandmother's family. I am just started and don't know too much, anything would be helpful. My Grandama was Lorraine La Fave, her father was Edward (or maybe Hedward) born around the turn of the century in Upper Michigan, Delta County. He was an identical twin. His brother's name was Woolford (?) His mother's name was (probably) Flora and his father was possibly Art, but I'm not sure. He married Aimee Richer in the early 20's and had three daughters, Lorraine, Deloris and Doris May. Amy died in 1941 and he later remarried a woman named Elizabeth. If any of this sounds familiar let me know.

Rosalia Lafave b. 15 Feb 1837

Looking for info on the family of Rosalia LAFAVE. She was born 15 Feb 1837 in either Canada or Wisconsin, died 13 Aug 1911 in Michigan. I have found some info on her parents, but there are discrepancies in the names. (Surprise, surprise, eh?) Her father's name is either Levi or Oliver, born c. 1799 in Canada, and her mother is Caroline or Mary GONYON.
Rosalia married Guy Perry LANGFORD in 1857 in WI, he died 1863 in Michigan. She then married John E. HATFIELD in 1874 in Michigan. I have info on two children of hers - Guy Purdy LANGFORD and Della HATFIELD. Any and all info on the LAFAVE side would be much appreciated.
Rosalia is my g-g-g-grandmother.

My name is Roseann La Fave, and I am starting to think my family came from another planet. I am looking for information on Augustine Regina Bertrand LaFave and Armidos LaFave and their children. Actually ANYTHING would be fantastic! Who were their parents? They were my great grand parents. I know they had several children, but not much else. There were sons Cleo, Tref, Eugene, Victor (my grandfather) and a son who died in a field but we don't know his name. There is supposed to be a daughter and a daughter from Regina's second husband, one of which died, one is named Susie or Susan. Unknown which information belongs to whom. Armidos left Augustine when the kids were young and she later re-married. She and her second husband left one day when the boys were in school taking only the baby (girl). The boys lived with an uncle and worked his farm until they were older. Unknown wether the uncle was a Bertrand or a LaFave or who, only that an uncle let them stay and work his farm. Victor was 13 from limited old family stories. I assume they lived in a French speaking community as my grandfather told me he did not speak English only French at the time and life was hard for that reason.
