Are you still interested in Urbana's genealogy. I have found more info for you. My dad (Gene LeFave d. 2000) has a first cousin Victor LaFave still alive and active in El Paso. His father Victor was Urbana's older brother. I also have more ancestry and many photographs.

Please contact me directly at michelelefave@yahoo.com.

Michele (LeFave) Dumas

PS. Celia (Celina) had a brother Eli. I got that from a historic newsclipping. Still can't place them together in a family on a census.

Ida LaFave b. 1889 parents were Aninor b. 1866. and Mathilda b. 1868. I'm trying to find out what relationship exists (if any) between Ida LaFave and Celina Lebebvre.

Re: Celia LaFave

I just found out that Celia LaFave was listed as Celina LeFebvre at St. Joseph's Parish in Malone for the listing of her child with Henry Coallier. Henry went by Coulier, but the original spelling from Boucherville, Quebec was Coallier; in the US, it was Coulier, Quillia, Qulia, Qullia, or Qualier. I just want to place Celina in a family on a census somewhere with siblings and parents. Sound familiar to anyone?

Henry and Celia's grave at Notre Dame Cemetery, Malone, NY (Lot 142, Sect A) has Edward age 6 d. 1894, Frank Qulia, age 40 d. 1926; Catherine LaFave age 66 d. 1892; Toussaint LaFave age 66, died 1895; Bessie, age 17 died 1900; Nellie, age 27, died 1907; Celia, age 82, died 1936; Henry, age 43, died 1903; Mrs. Mary Coullier, age 96 died 1/16/80. (I think this is the wife of Frank, Henry and Celia's son.)

I looked up Toussaint and Catherine in the Drouin records but wasn't very successful; can't figure out the relationship that they had to Celia.

Celia LaFave

I'm looking to find the parents and siblings of Celia LaFave. Celia must have been a nickname. She may have gone by LeFebvre (or something like that). The US 1880 Census said that she was 19 (so she must have been born in 1861), born in NY, married to Henry Coulier (b. 1860)in Malone, Franklin County, NY. Henry Coulier's family also went by the surnames Quillia, Qulia, Coalier, Coallier. She had in 1880 a daughter named Nellie. I am trying to find out if she is at all related to Ida LaFave b. 1888 and married Henry's nephew Arthur Qulia (Quillia) Kulia. Mostly, I'd like to know who her siblings and parents were and then maybe I could place her. There were soooo many LaFaves and LeFebvres in that area back then.

Hi Annette,
I am one of those LaFave's that is fascinated by our ancestors. Like Dave, I have been trying to locate birth records etc. for Thomas LaFave. I managed to locate death certificates for Nelson LaFave and Laura Tinker/LaFave/Lipscomb. By researching Laura and Nelson I hoped to link the 2 families. I have traced Laura back to John and Hannah Lipscomb. Hannah was a McDonald and I have followed her back to United Empire Loyalists. You can e-mail me directly if you are interested. I have yet to send some of this info on to Dave LaFave so I will try to sort it and send along to the 2 of you. My e-mail address is joasmith@telus.net. Hope to hear from you soon.

Your cousin,

Joanne

Michael,

Perhaps this will help focus your interests a bit. La Fave or Lafave is derived from Lefebvre a common name in the Channel Islands and the north of France. Huge numbers of Lafaves around the great lakes - New York, Michigan, Wisoncson, Minnesota, etc. And big numbers in Quebec.

Good luck .. Terry

Here are some slightly more common spellings and the marriage dates of the early part of this lineage obtained from PRDH (U. of Montreal online). Spellings are based on the most common usage found in the vital records for each person and their offspring, as determined by PRDH. Note that this particular LEFEBVRE line has the LACISERAY dit name which continues at least until Antoine's father. For genealogists this is helpful to know in order to separate this line from that of another immigrant Pierre LEFEBVRE who married Marie CHATIGNY 17 Aug 1656 at Quebec City, QC.

Pierre LEFEBVRE m. Jeanne CUTILOUP bef. 1616-12-31, France
Pierre LEFEBVRE m. Jeanne NOUNAU bef. 1647-01-12, France
Michel LEFEBVRE dit LACISERAY m.
I'd like to correct a bit of misdirection about Pierre LEFEBVRE and Jeanne NOUNAU. Pierre was born abt 1616 at Sceaux, archev. Paris, Ile-de-France, (ar. Antony, Hauts de Seine), FRA. Jeanne was also an immigrant, b. abt 1624 in France. She was not Amerindian. They married before Jan 12, 1647 in an unknown location in France. Their first child, Jacques, was born Jan 12 1647 in Trois-Rivieres, QC.

Choice of spelling of Jeanne's surname is based on the most common spelling found on the baptismal and marriage records of their children.

Source: PRDH (U. of Montreal online)

Lafave surname has many ancestral lines

There were several men surnamed Lefebvre who emigrated to Quebec and had sons to carry on the name. Many of those sons and grandsons adopted "dit" names which helped people know "which Pierre Lefebvre", etc. When searching for ancestors in these lines pay close attention to the dit names.

The most common are:
LEFEBVRE dit ANGERS
LEFEBVRE dit BELISLE
LEFEBVRE dit BOULANGER
LEFEBVRE dit DESCOTEAUX
LEFEBVRE dit DUPLESSIS
LEFEBVRE dit FABER
LEFEBVRE dit LACISERAY
LEFEBVRE dit LACROIX
LEFEBVRE dit VILLEMURE

You may find your ancestors under either name in the vital records.

Hello Joanne (and my other cousins!)

I am Annette Barnum LaFave's namesake. We share Nelson as g g grandfather. My grandfather was Lawrence; my father was Thomas (he died in 2004 at the age of 89). Dad always talked about the LaFave history and was very interested in his ancestry... and I've inherited (no pun intended) this interest.

My brother David has done lots of research into old Thomas' ancestry. We found that he belonged to the 5th Iowa Cavalry (google it-- he's listed in a website). He was able to get copies of his military records, and his roster card listed place of origin as "Bachenis", which we thought could be a misspelling of Beauharnois. However, Dave was unable to find any birth or baptismal records.

If you or anyone has any more information about Thomas I'd be very interested in hearing from you. In any case, I'd be interested in conversing with my distant cousins!

Cheers,
Annette LaFave Krammer
