She was the daughter of Henry Thare (Tarry) Toussaint and Laura Laferriere. I am also in touch with a granddaughter of Jennie's sister, Laura Toussaint.

I've gotten a little further back than clair hebert and as far as we can tell, the issue of there being any blackfoot or abenacki bloodlines is doubtful. We are drawing the conclusion that there was a misinterpretation somewhere along the lines. In earlier times, many French travelled about the area by foot, trading in different villages. Because of the areas swamps and the black mud in them, these French traders often arrived at their destinations with their shoes and often their feet, stained black from the mud. The term of the are used to describe these folks was Blackfoot French. At any rate, I do have a family tree posted here on ancestry with everything we've gathered on the family. This information is also posted on my personal site at www.kalacinski.org

I noticed this was posted a year ago...wondering if you had found out anything about Clair Hebert and her Blackfoot/Abenaki roots?

Henry Toussaint and Laura Laferriere were my great great grandparents. They had a daughter Laura, who in turn had my grandmother Pauline.

I always heard rumors when I was a kid about a possible native connection...but never could figure out which family member it was supposed to be. I'd love to hear from you!

marie Louise Aurez dit LaFerriere was child of Marie Louise Genereux and Amable LaFerriere. They also had another child Mathilde Aurez dit LaFerriere married to Narcisse Tellier. their other child was also Amable Aurez dit LaFerriere married to Malvina Desrosiers dit LaFreniere. Marie Aurelie Aurez dit LaFerriere is the daughter of Pierre aurez dit LaFerriere and Josepthe Baret. My grandfather lived in Lowell Mass to work in the factories there. He was the nephew of Amable LaFerriere. There probably is a reason he came there to work because he knew someone. I found his name in a census but they had him at a boarding house. There are so many Joseph's in the LaFerriere line so if you know any middle names that would be of help. (Most French Canadians used Joseph as a first name.)I know I have seen the name Jubinville connected with my family but at the moment I cannot find it. Tell me more if you can. thanks Adrienne

I accidentally found your request and I am assuming you have since had contact with family members. I am the wife of Lucien LaFerriere (DECEASED) whose father was Leon and mother was Eva Paradis. There are numerous children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Leon and Eva. There is a website on Facebook called LaFerriere Clan with many photos and contacts. There were 11 children from Leon and Eva. I have a son in WA state named Leon and there is another Leon in Dexter, ME. His father is Joel LaFerriere. It was so fun to see your request in Ancestry.com. Good Luck and greetings from LuRae LaFerriere

I believe it was in New Hampshire.Elvina was born in 1855 in Vermont and I believe Charles was born around the same time. However I have not been able to verift the above with official documentation. I have verified that they lived in Lemonster up until their death. Elvina was still alive in 1930 and Charles was deceased. There was a Henry in the family, also a Julia and Emily. If this is the same Charles Laferrier then I can tell you that the parents of Elvina were Joseph Ladoo (Ledoux and Edesse Lamarche) You can contact me at 413 536 2508 or by email

George

Dennis,

I stumbled on your Genforum reply today while searching for anything on my fathers "Laferriere" ancesters. My grandmother was Agnes Laferriere, daughter of Theophile and Leda (Dumas) Laferriere, son of Norbert and Julie (Jubinville) Laferriere.

Using the available US census information, I've found Norbert & Julie in the 1880 census in Cohoes, Albany, NY.. Their children were Louis, Norbert, Theophile (spelled "Treffle" in the census entry), Matilda, Eugenie, Joseph, Aurelia and Mary. The census entry indicates that all of the children were born in Canada except Mary.

Theophile married Leda Dumas (daughter of Moise Dumas and ? Robitaille) in about 1888 (in the US). Their children were, Laura, Noe, Agnes (my grandmother), Anna, J. Clifford and Amanda.

I've been trying to piece this together, mainly from online sources, but I do have copies of deathe certificates for Theophile and Leda from Lowell, Mass.

I'm trying to trace Norbert and Julie back into Canada, as well as broadening my Laferriere records for Theophile's siblings. If you have any of this information or can point me to someone who does any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Judy,

While I can't really help you with your search, I am hoping you can help out with my own.

I am trying to find information on my father's father, who we are pretty sure was Leon and Eva's son Norman Laferriere who was born in Eagle Lake Maine in 1927. I know Norman was married to a Frances in Eagle Lake, and that he died in 1991 in Maine, and that both siblings (Lucien and Lionel) are also deceased. I have Lionel's obituary but can find no information at all about Norman. Do you know where he lived in Maine or how I would go about finding more information on him?

I have very little info to go on. I am looking for a Norman or Normand Laferriere who was in Maine at some point around 1950 and passed away recently. He was old enough in 1950 to father a child (my father, actually) and we think he passed away within the past 10 years in maybe CT or RI ??

Again, we have very little info to go on here. Hoping someone might have a lead on this!!

I had information on Celestin & Edesse's marriage from StFX Church, but it wasn't clear what her parents names were... I would love to compare notes on the family history - you can reply here, or email me at jladams31@yahoo.com
Thanks again,
Jennifer

I am looking for any information about my gg-grandmother Edesse Laferriere, born in Canada, but lived in Vermont. She married Celestin Limoges, at St Francis Xavier Church in Winooski, and later lived in St Albans... Although I have significant information on the Limoge side, my search is stalled with Edesse on the Laferriere side. Any information will be helpful, and much appreciated.

My Great Grandmother was Eugenie Laferriere married to Hildege Hervieux, daughter of Norbert Laferriere and Julie Jubinville, so I am also trying to trace Julie Jubinville and Norbert Laferriere back to Canada. I have a death certificate for Eugenie from Lowell, MA showing Norbert and Julie as her parents.

While I have not made any progress on the Laferriere side, I believe that Julie may be the daughter of Ambroise Jubinville and Therese St Jean dit Laperche. In looking at the LDS website, I have found entries showing that Ambroise and Therese had children Elie(b.1832), Theophile(b.1834), Marguerite (b.1836), Julie (b.6/10/1840), Marie Sara (b.1842), Sophie (b.1843),Domiltide (b.1845), and Victoria (b.1853)

As you can tell, Ambroise and Therese had a daughter Julie in 1840 which corresponds to her age in the 1880 census in Cohoes NY. They also had a daughter Victoria who is listed in almost every websight as being born in 1836, but I have a death certificate for both her and her husband Narcisse Clermont who both died in Lowell, MA in 1927. From her death certificate, Victoria's birth date should be 3/10/1853 which makes more sense. Victoria's parents are listed as Ambroise Jubinville and Therese St Jean. I also have an e-mail frome someone who researched the birth records in St Jean de Matha and found that Narcisse Clermont and Victoire Jubinville were godparents for Mathilda Laferriere, daughter of Norbert and Julie in 1869.

It sure seems likely that my GG-Grandmother Julie Jubinville is the same Julie Jubinville that is the sister of Victoria Jubinville which would make Ambroise Jubinville and Therese St Jean dit Laperche her parents, but I can't seem to make the positive link yet.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a connection with the Laferriere name in Lowell, Mass. and later in Cohoes, New York. I read your post and looked at the information I have but could not see a connection. Here is what I have, if you see any connection let me know...the Laferriere name is one of the names that I'm stuck with...

Pierre Alfred Drainville (b.8/1837 d.3/1916 in Lowell) married a Marie Louise Laferriere (b.01/1839 d.12/1914 in Lowell) in 1857.

Pierre Alfred Drainville was the son of Norbert Drainville and Aurelie Laferriere. Marie Louise Laferriere was the daughter of Amble Laferriere and Marie Louise Generoux.

The Drainville family appears in the 1880 census in Lowell and also on the 1881 Canadian census in Quebec. This would show that they moved often. My grandfather was born in Cohoes, NY in 1906.

Paul Drainville

Brian,

At this point, I don't know what to tell you. I need to get to a genealogy society as well as an archival center that has the records I need to figure all this out, but unfortuantely, I don't have the time to do either right now, nor is anyone paying me to research this family. At present, I have a full plate here, so it will be a long while until I return to this family. If Norbert & Julie's marriage is not in Canada (and I have not found it there!) then it must be in the US (Cohoes, Lowell, I don't know, I haven't been able to research either place). If the kids were all born in Canada, they must have married here in the US and went back to have the kids, then returned here to live....a very common practice for immigrants in that era from Canada. They went home more often than we can believe.

At this point too, I would like to see all the documentation regarding this family to straighten it all out, as the duplication of names is making it quite confusing to keep track of everyone, as well as everyone here on these boards searching for the same people, I don't know who's descended from whom any more. Will get back to you when I compile more facts to satisfy my own curiosity and make sense of all this. Dennis

Hi,
Would you have the name of his parents, and did he marry? It would help us locate him. I have a couple of branches in my tree all around St.Genevieve.
Carol
