Like many of you, I'm a descendant of Pierre de LaFond, born ca. 1590 in St-Laurent-de-la-Barrière, St. Jean D'Angély, Saintes, Saintonge, France, and whose son, Étienne sieur de LaFond, emigrated to Québec around 1640.
I've just started up the Lafond DNA Project, with the goals of confirming relationships among the Lafonds, and trying to determine the ancestry of all the Lafond lineages (and all surname variants) back to before the earliest-known records, even back before the origin of the Lafond surname itself.
I invite all Lafonds to read about the project, and for any male Lafonds (or females who have a male Lafond relative who would be interested) to join, if you are interested in participating. The following website will explain why I am directing this invitation to males, and will explain what the project is all about:http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/lafond
To the rest of you, both men and women, I'm happy to be part of your extended family, and I'd love to hear from you if you have any questions, or if you just want to say hi.
Shawn Lafond Powell
