Yes, Martha Simpson in 1860 was born Martha Weldon, married 1) James Lagrone in Montgomery Co, AR in 1846 (age 14 1/2), records online at familysearch.org. Had son Daniel. Apparently married Thomas Simpson abt 1855 (no record found so far), and had 3 children: Matilda, Henry C., and Isabella; married 3) Thomas Cottrell/Cottrill/Cockrell in Sevier Co, AR (record abstracted at familysearch.org) in Dec 1863 and had 8 more children. I suspect Columbus was her brother. The 1850 census shows an Ann Weldon, age 10, in the same house. Possibly a sister? And another possible sister is Mary Jane Weldon, age 15, in 1850, living in the family of James Farr in Caddo Twp.

Hello Tarsha:
I'm probably a cousin. If you google my last name you will see a genealogy site that may be helpful. My relatives migrated from Noxubee County, met up with the Mormons and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah.
That is where my father is from and I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon.

I hope this reaches you well.

Take good care,
Russell
Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR b. 1823 SC, d. 1860 Perry Co., AL., m. Wm. Wesley TAYLOR
When I started my interest in genealogy about 6 years ago, I did as I am sure many others before and after me have done and basically accepted anything I saw on the internet about my ancestors as fact. Now I am finding that much of the fact that I have is fiction.

Recently I have come to believe that I might have attributed Mary LAGRONE to the wrong set of parents. My family tree lists John and Catherine RINHART LAGRONE as her parents as do all of the family trees I have come across on internet. However, the 1850 census doesn't seem to support this theory even though Mary and Wm. TAYLOR were living beside John and Catherine LEGRONE.

1850 Census Perry Co., AL. Oldtown

Household 169

TAYLOR, Wm. 25 SC
TAYLOR, Mary 23 SC
TAYLOR, Mary 2 AL

Household 170

LEGRONE, John 60 SC
LEGRONE, Catherine 50 SC
LEGRONE, Henry 21 SC
LEGRONE, Mary 16 SC

Household 171

LEGRONE, Martin 35 SC
LEGRONE, Martha 34 SC
(This couple was married in Perry Co., March 28, 1849 and her maiden name was Lagrone.)

Now since John and Catherine had their own Mary living with them it doesn't seem likely that Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR is also their daughter.

If I am reading "The Lineage of Laurenz Le Crown" correctly on Marc Carlson's website,
http://www.personal.utulsa.edu/~marc-carlson/lgrone/hypodoc....
Henry and Mary MNU LAGRONE are the parents of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR.

"The Lineage of Laurenz Le Crown" further states that Martha LAGRONE who married Martin LAGRONE (purported to be the son of John and Catherine Rinehart) is the sister of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR. This tends to be supported by the 1860 Census in which Widow Martha LAGRONE and daughter Rachael are living with the TAYLORs.

1860 Census Perry Co., AL. Marion

TAYLOR, Wm. 36m Farmer SC
TAYLOR, Mary 37f Wife SC
TAYLOR, Martha A. M. 11f AL
TAYLOR, Mary 10f AL
TAYLOR, Nancy S. 7f AL
TAYLOR, Johnson F. 4m AL
TAYLOR, Henry Rufus 2m AL
LAGRONE, Martha 42f Widow SC
LAGRONE, Rachael D. 5f AL

I am looking for further evidence that Henry LAGRONE is the father of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR to help support my theory. Does anyone have any suggestions or can anyone offer any further documentation to help me settle the matter of Mary's ancestry?

Thanks,

Joni Creel Bohacheff
3rd Great-granddaughter of Mary LAGRONE TAYLOR
Martha married Thomas Simpson sometime beween 1850 and 1857.

If anyone has any clues to all the relationships here, please.
My husband is decended from Newton J. I've got some info on Daniel, as I've been tracking him - hoping to find Jasper.

Mr. Lagrone, thanks so much for responding to the message. I have connected my Lagrones with the Spanns in Texas. I beleive my Gladys was born in Texas. Her mother was Alma Spann of Texas. If you are connected to my family would love to know all the connections. If not, again I thank you so very much responding.
G.Braswell

Try bigm7@earthlink.net to BUY a copy. The
document is interesting to me because of the
research in Schonau and what it confirms and
doesn't confirm about South Carolina. It
discusses descendents of Laurenz for five
generations (b. 1830 - 1840) through two of
Tobias' children and for 10 generations
through John/Agnes begat Nicholas.

Unless you are a descendent of John/Agnes
begat Nicholas you probably won't find
yourself in it.

By the way, bigm7 is still researching
Nicholas, I believe.

George Michael Sr. vs. Henry

Does anyone know who the father of George
Micheal Lagrone (b. 1825, Newberry, S.C.)
should be? I have inconsistent info.

According to W.S. Lagrone Bible, Miss Archives
Laurenz begat Tobias
Tobias begat Adam (m. Mary Houseal)
Adam begat Henry (1798 Old 96 Dist)
Henry begat George Michael (1825 Newberry)
George Michael begat Wm. Sylvester (1847 AL)

According to 1830 Perry Co Al Census
George Michael Sr. (b. 1794 S.C.)
m. Rachel West (b. 1804 GA)
household: George Michael jr.(1825 AL)

According to "Descendents of Nicholas
Lagrone" by Arnold
Laurentz begat Tobias
Tobias begat John (b. 1790 m. Agnes Hartley)
John begat Henry (b. 1798 - 1860)
Henry unresearched

Mismatch from top down here, Adam vs. John
begat Henry.

Mismatch from bottom up previously, Henry
vs. George Michael Sr. begat George Michael
Jr.

I might add that family tradition is that
there was a George Michael Sr. and a
George Michael Jr. In other words I heard
it from the lips and saw it in the writing
of George Michael Jr.'s (b. 1825) two
grand daughters.

George Michael Jr's Granddaughters

George Michael Lagrone (b. 1825, d. 1909)
begat
Charles Bascomb Lagrone (b. 1854 d. 1921)
begat these three sisters
Ila Corrinne Lagrone (b.1892 d. ca 1960)
Verna Lagrone (b.1894 d. ca. 1974)
Maude Alma Lagrone (b.1878 d. 1935)
begat
Homer Glenn Arnold (b. 1913 d. 1953)
begat
Harry Glenn Arnold (b. 1940)

I don't worry when someone questions data,
because we all tend to make too many mistakes.
The above pedigree shows that Ila and Verna
were teen agers when their grandfather, George
Michael died in 1909. Their sister, Maude Alma
was my grandmother, whom I never knew, but I
was in my twenties and thirties when Ila and
Verna died.

I don't remember the date of the original
posting, but I have since come to the
conclusion that George Michael's (b. 1825)
father was Henry (b.ca. 1794) and that there
were no Jr and Sr. George Michael's.

Now the puzzle is, who was Henry's (m. Agnes
Hartley) father?

Adam Lagrone

Only evidence I know of Adam Lagrone b. 1705
in Luxemburg is family tradition. If anyone
has evidence that Adam Lagrone existed I
would welcome it. Thanks in advance.

Lagrones in Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas
all appear to claim descent from Tobias
LeCrown who received a land grant in
Newberry Co.SC in 1752. (If all can be
believed, his son John Adam who married Mary
Houseal had 22 children, often two and three
per year.)

Nevertheless, Newberry land deeds show that
Tobias was the eldest son of Lawrence
LeCrown who imigrated to Charleston,SC
with Tobias on the ship Upton in September
of 1752. Place of origin is almost surely
Schonau Germany, where Lawrence and Tobias
Legron and families received emigration
papers that same year.

Plenty of historical evidence supports family
tradition, but no evidence of Adam Lagrone
or Laurentz Lagrone prior to 1752 has been
published in places I have looked.

Unknown Lagrone

The family traditon of a stowaway who landed
in Charleston around 1727 is firmly embedded
in several Lagrone family lines that split
apart in Alabama around 1830. The problem is,
that all the documentation that traces the
descent back through John Adam and Mary
Houseal Lagrone or (more recently) John and
Agnes Lagrone goes back to the Upton. The
problem is twofold: one, the Children of
Adam (m. M. Houseal) are documented by his
will in Tennessee and don't include many of
the children attributed to him by Grady in
his family history. Two, there is no good
proof that John (m. Agnes) was a child of
Tobias, who was on the Upton with his father,
Lawrence.

It is for the above reasons that I and others
are searching for any documentation or anyone
who knows the origin of the family tradition
of Adam Laurentz Lagrone, 1727 stow away.

Gerry,

My husband's great grandmother was Harriet Daniel McGrone's sister. She married a Robertson between 1892-1895 MS. I notice that Harriet's daughter Nettie married a Roberson and wondered if you had any information on that Roberson, if there could be any connection between Mattie's husband Eugene Robertson and Nettie's husband Roberson.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am at a brick wall on my Robertson research. I did find a marriage in Noxubee D. T. Robertson and Mattie Daniel in 1892. Don't know if this is the couple I'm looking for as Mattie's husband went by Eugene. Can't find them until 1910 Caddo Parish, LA.

Hannah Van Horn
vanhorn@planetc.com

Lagrone's Obit?

Would be happy to exchange info. I would appreciate anything that you might be willing to share on James B. Daniel, such as his father's name or any sibblings. His mother's name was Elizabeth and I have one sibbling, Mary.

I cannot find James B. Daniel in 1850 or 1870 census. Do you have anything on those years?

Contact me at
vanhorn@planetc.com

Thanks, Hannah Van Horn

Catherine Rinehart Lagrone

I am trying to determine the parents and siblings of the Catherine Rinehart who married John Lagrone and lived in Perry County, AL. There are several reasons for this: First of all, we are trying to determine who is buried in the family plot in the Mt. Nebo/Rinehart Cemetery in Perry County. David Rinehart was the first owner of this land and gave it for a cemetery - we do not know if he is buried there and which ones of his children (Christian, Matilda, Sarah, Lucinda) are there also. And is Catherine a sister to David? Her daugher Elizabeth married John K. Nichols. We assume that Elizabeth is buried there with John K. Nichols and his second wife Matilda Rinehart. Any information on them would be a blessing!!!

Secondly, in the woods behind MT. Nebo/Rinehart cemetery is a very old cemetery in a clump of trees. There are 4 headstones that can be read - One just says Elizabeth Lagrone. Another says D. C. Lagrone and then there are two for the sons of J. Scarborough with death dates of 1880 and 1882. We are trying to deteremine who the Lagrones are?

Again, I would be grateful for any info on who may be buried in the unmarked graves at Mt. Nebo.
Janice Nichols Heacock
Henry Clay Lagrone

Our family is connected to Francis Henry Clay Lagrone and his first wife Amandice Dobbins.

Their son John Howard Lagrone married Minnie McDonald (daughter of Elijah and Francis Elizabeth Wilder McDonald) in Rayville, Richland Parish, Louisiana.

I have an obituary for Henry found in the Richland Beacon Newspaper in Rayville, Richland Parish, Louisiana. Thought I would share with anyone who is related. Also, if you have information on John and Minnie, I would appreciate anything you would care to share.

The Richland Beacon Saturday June 17 1922
Rayville, Richland Parish, Louisiana

HENRY C. LAGRONE DIES

Mr. Henry C. Lagrone, age 80 years, died at the home of his son, Mr. John H. Lagrone, of Ward Four, on last Monday and the remains were buried in Little Creek graveyard on Tuesday. the deceased leaves a widow, several grown sons and daughters, and a host of friends to mourn his loss.

Mr. Lagrone was born in Noxubee County, Mississippi on march 15, 1842, and entered the Confederate Army and served throughout that memorable struggle with gallantry and distinction, being in some of the hottest engagements of the Civil War. He removed to Richland parish, Louisiana in 1896, and has made this parish his home ever since, with the exception of buried residences in Union parish, Louisiana and Asehton, Texas, returning to his old home from the latter place only a few weeks ago.

Mr. Lagrone was a member of the Masonic Lodge and devoted the tenets and teachings of this Order. Though never in possession of good health, he always took a deep interest in public affairs and will be missed by his neighbors and friends.

the Beacon-News joins in offering sympathy to the bereaved family.
I am trying to find documents to help my friend Mary Alice McLamore [Her mother was Alma Mae Arnold-married to James Harrison] so she can join the Daughters Of American Revolution Society. Mary Alice's aunt was VERNA LAGRONE --who was a member of the DAR. If we can document proof of Mary Alice and Verna being neice and Aunt, then I can type up her papers of application. We have to prove tho, that Verna was her aunt. This can be done by birth certificates that show Verna's parents names, death certificates or obituaries that list Verna's parents by name, and/or bible records. Mary Alice is the daughter of James Harrison and wife Alma Mae Arnold. Alma's parents were Harry G. Arnold and wife Maude Alma Lagrone. Maude is the daughter of George Michael Lagrone. Verna is also, so Verna and Maude are sisters. Can anyone help us with some tangible documented proof of this fact. Thanks, Cajungal3342@aol.com

Terry: I am not sure whether this helps or confuses the situation, but I have two different Lagrone families in my own lineage. They originate in the Newberry/Edgefield S.C. area and they appear to have migrated westward with the Rinehart, Riser, Sease and Renwick families. I show an Elizabeth Lagrone b. 1814 d. abt 1865 married to Michael Rinehart. Elizabeth's father was David Lagrone (dates unknown) and his wife is a Christenah LNU. I have seen some records of a christening in the Newberry area in which one of my Renwick forefathers was a witness. David's father was John W. Lagrone b. 1755 d. 1803 and his mother is Mary Houseal b. 1760 d. 1835. John W.'s father is Tobias Lagrone b. 1730 d. 1786. Tobias' daughter Anna M. married Mathais Rinehart. Assuming that you understand this I would be interested in sharing information.

Lagrone Family researchers

We are in need of proofs of lineage for Verna Lagrone, daughter of Charles Bascomb Lagrone and Alice Victoria Tate. Then we need to connect Verna and her parents to Maude Alma Lagrone who married Harry Grimm Arnold who had a daughter name of Alma Mae [or May] Arnold. [Alma married James Harrison.] If I have my notes correct, Charles Lagrone and Maude Alma Lagrone should connect as brother and sister or first cousins--since both are the grandchildren of George Michael Lagrone and Martha E. Glass. Can anyone share any documents of proof for these people. My friend, Mary Alice Harrison Maclamore is trying to join DAR under her Aunt Verna's lineage back to Adam Lagrone who served in the Revolutionary War. If you can help us prove her heritage it would be much appreciated and we will gladly repay for any copies or fax that you can supply. DAR has become very striengent on the articles of proof to join this society. Please contact Cajungal3342@aol.com if you can help.
