LAHR, Herbert J., 80, of Zephyrhills, passed away Monday, February 14, 2005, in Zephyrhills. He is survived by his companion, Doris Chenkin of Zephyrhills; two sons, Dennis Lahr and wife, Norma, of Wilkes Barre, Pa., and Allan Lahr of Zephyrhills; and seven grandchildren, all of Pennsylvania. Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2005, at Florida National Cemetery with Chaplain Chuck Trasher officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Zephyrhills VFW Post #8154. Mr. Lahr was born April 3, 1924, in Wilkes Barre, Pa. He was a veteran of the Army serving in World War II, a member of the VFW Post #8154 and the National Order of the Eagles. He was a branch manager in the automobile industry and a Protestant. A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2005, at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #3752, State Road 54 West, in Zephyrhills.

WILLIAM LAHR/LORE came from, NJ ?, Bucks Co., then Northampton Co.,
then to Lycoming Co., PA in 1816 and settled upon a farm.
He was married to Miss Eve Barbara REED (Reid), and to them were
born seven children: John, Catherine (RITTER), George P., Elizabeth,
Lydia (RITTER), Mary, and William. Eve Barbara and William are buried at
Germany Church between Lairdsville and Unityville (Franklin Township),
Lycoming Co., PA. John, his eldest son, was married to Mary A. WILSON.

Joseph W. Lahr was married to my grandmother's sister, Rose A. Waters, b. abt. 1897, Philadelphia, PA to James and Catherine(Lawler) Waters. James and Catherine were from N. Ireland. 1930 census has them living in Philadelphia with the following: Rose, dau. age 10, Agnes, dau. age 9, Margaret, dau. age 8. There are two boarders listed as: Veronica Waters, age 29, and William Waters, age 2. Their last residence in 1930 was 3067 Collins St. My grandparents, Charles H. and Bridget C. (Waters) Schweitzer lived at 3065 Collins St.
Rose Lahr had a brother named James J. Waters, b. abt. 1891. His wife's name was Charlotte. James was a police officer in Philadelphia.
Her other siblings were: John E. Waters, b. abt. 1891 and Kate Waters, b. abt. 1893.

MILTON — Zachary Allen Lahr, newborn son of Amy Moore and Shawn Lahr of Milton, died shortly after birth on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are one sister, Chienne Herman; paternal grandfather, Maynard Lahr of Northumberland; maternal grandparents, Tom Moore and Amy Hollenbach of Sunbury and Marcy Moore of Shamokin; paternal great-grandparents, Forrest "Bud" and Mabel Thursby of New Columbia; and maternal great-grandparents, Marlin and Maggie Moore of Trevorton.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Fay Lahr.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia, with the Rev. John E. Lee officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton.

ARCADIA, Fla. - Susan J. Lahr, 52, of Arcadia, formerly of Trevorton, Pa., passed away Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers after a lengthy illness with cancer.

She was born Oct. 15, 1952, in Sunbury, Pa., a daughter of Shirley (Shearer) Croll of Coal Township, Pa., and the late John M. Croll.

Susan lived most of her life in Trevorton, Pa., and was a resident of Florida since 1997.

She was a 1970 graduate of Line Mountain High School.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Todd Schaffner of Dalmatia, Pa., and Heather and Greg Jordan of Trevorton, Pa.; one granddaughter, Maddie Jordan; one sister, Stephanie Guyer of RR1 Shamokin, Pa.; one brother, Charles Shearer of Trevorton, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Ruth D. Lahr, nee Douglas, 81, of Glen Carbon, Ill., born June 12, 1924, in Nashville, Tenn., died Sunday, July 24, 2005, at home.

Mrs. Lahr was employed by Granite City Community School District 9 as a teacher/administrator for 36 years when she retired in 1983. She was a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church, Glen Carbon, Ill., and of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy M. Lahr Jr., whom she married Jan. 15, 1944; her parents, George and Bertha, nee Baltimore, Lahr Sr.; six brothers, Arch, Troop, Hugh, Pete, Vance and George Douglas Jr.; and three sisters, Myrtle Jackson, Jo Glenn and Kathryn Derryberry.

She is survived by a son, Guy M. (Diane S. Burchard-Lahr) Lahr III of Springfield, Ill.; a daughter, Dr. Almeda M. (Ralph E.) Lahr-Well of Glen Carbon, Ill.; five grandchildren, Carrie Ruth Hatcher of Dallas, Texas, Sarah M. Robinson of Springfield, Ill., Amanda M. Baylor of Lansing, Mich., Alexia M. Eberhart of Glen Carbon, Ill., and Arin M. Well of Glen Carbon, Ill.; and eight great-grandchildren.

Lahr Jr. and his wife, Doris, of Milford, Sister Dolores Lahr, CSJ of New Britain, Linda Lahr Hadyka and her husband, Michael, of Boise, Idaho, and Susan Lahr Judd and her husband, Grant, of Cotuit, Mass.; four grandchildren, Charles Snyder Jr, Deborah Fogler, Melissa Lahr Thomas and John Hadyka, six great-grandchildren Thomas and Kayla Snyder, Meghan, Jared and Riley Fogler and Reagan Lahr Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. Lahr (Fournier), Nancy age 64, of Minneapolis, raised in Red Lake Falls, passed away peacefully on October 22 after a brief battle with leukemia. Family and friends were with her. Nancy worked at the Formac Corp., Hennepin County Sheriff's office, and the County Attorney's office. She also cared for her friend, Tommy Lynch. Nancy is survived by brothers, Fr. Denis of the Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND and Ramon Fournier of El Paso, TX. Preceded in death by her parents, Alfred (Fritz) and Cecilia Fournier, and brother, Leroy. Private services were held.

I cannot find Levi Lahr and wife in 1880, but they were married 31 Dec 1874 Whiteside Co. Illinois. Cannot find him or siblings before he is in Illinois. Also no trace of the August Hoover that is livin with him, so hopefully they will be together or there is some relationship.

Thela B. "Pat" Lahr was born July 5, 1908 and stepped into eternity Tuesday, February 22, 2005. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt, and above all, a Lady. One who loved many and was dearly loved by many, Thela left wonderful memories as a legacy to her loved ones.

Marcellas F. "Tates" Lahr left her in 1986 but now they are together again. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Chris Lahr; sister, Phyllis Carroll; granddaughter, Debbie Miller; grandson, Michael Lahr and grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, and their wives and husbands, close friends and "Kermit" who was so very close to her heart.

Missed by many, but not forever. Titus 3:3, "...when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy." This is our hope (confidence) we will meet again around God¹s dear Son, our Lord Jesus, in heaven. So we do not say goodbye, Thela, we proclaim... "see you later". Love you always. M.

Developing and nurturing relationships was a core anthem in Robert's life, most noticeably from the fact he remained close to many friends from grade school. At home, he was a dedicated chef and strong patriarchal leader. He lovingly and independently cared for Nora until his own illness took hold. His friends on the links of Brookridge Country Club were thought of as family. For over 30 years, he worked as an accountant for International Harvester. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Magdalena (Vogel) Lahr, siblings Joseph Lahr and Leona Maloney, and great-grandson Christopher Hubbard. Raymond R. Lahr, 34, of 433 E. Main Street, Lititz, died Tuesday December 7, 2004 in the Hershey Medical Center of natural causes.
He was the husband of Kathi Hoffman Lahr.
Born in York, he was the son of Ronald Lahr of Huntington and Susan Bankes Wentz of Harrisburg.
He worked for Waste Management, Lancaster and was a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, serving with the 2nd 104th HHC Aviation Battalion and was a graduate of Susquenita High School. He enjoyed rodeos, fishing, hunting, and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Surviving in addition to his wife and parents, are two step-daughters, Alyssa Kent of Marshalls Creek, PA and Marianne, wife of Kyle Groff of Elizabethville; 2 granddaughters; 2 brothers; 5 sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m., from the Kreamer Funeral Home, 618 E. Main Street, Annville. Interment with Military Honors will be in Lemberger's Cemetery, E. Hanover Twp. Viewing will be held Sunday evening from 7-9 p.m., at the funeral home.

SUNBURY - Martha Elsie Snyder Lahr, 89, of 705 Market St., formerly of Herndon, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

She was born June 21, 1915, in Dalmatia, a daughter of the late Elwood and Minnie (Brown) Zeiders. Her first husband, Ray A. Snyder, passed away in 1973. Her second husband, Mark Lahr, preceded her in death in 1992.

Martha was a retired employee of the Kinney Shoe Co., Millersburg.

She was a member of Zion Church, Herndon.

Surviving are two granddaughters and their husbands, Janet and Harold Metzger of Northumberland and Ann Louise and Rodger Botkin of Herndon; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by one son, Elwood Snyder; one brother; and three sisters.

Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Church, Herndon, where a memorial service will follow at 11 with the Rev. Daniel Busch officiating.

Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.

Contributions in Martha's memory may be made to Zion Church, Herndon, PA 17830.

Angeline (Dymond) Lahr, 94, of Wyoming, died Tuesday evening in her home.
Born in West Wyoming, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Fannie Dymond. She was a graduate of Wyoming High School and Rider University of New Jersey. After graduation, she traveled the West and spent time continuing her studies at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Prior to her marriage in 1939, Mrs. Lahr was employed as a teacher for the Forty Fort and Dallas Township schools. She was a member of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women's Association and the Women's Circle Group.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Charles W., 1996; brothers, Elmer and Fred; sister, Sarah Whitlock.
Surviving are her daughters, Ruth, New York City; Lillian, Chicago; Charlene Pittman and her husband Russell, Lansdale; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be Sunday in the Metcalfe and Shaver Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with the Rev. Dr. Terry W. Morse of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in the Wyoming Cemetery.
Friends may call Saturday evening 6-9 p.m.

In the 1930s he resided in the area of Penn Yan, Yates Co., NY. Losing what is left of my mind for three years looking for information about George J. Lahr, born Dec 1889 in Allegany, Cattaraugus Co., NY, who was residing in Royal Oak, MI, as of December 1947 according to the obit of one of his siblings. Age in 1947 = 57/58. Parents were George & Mary (REEDY) LAHR of Cattaraugus Co., NY.

George was trackable up through the 1920 census in NY and simply disappeared off the map. Nowhere to be found in any state in 1930 census. Know zero about wife, children, or possible locations other than NY or MI.

Does anyone have any George Lahr in their line who might fit my mystery man?

I would like to get in touch with anyone researching the family of Valentine Lahr from Undenheim, Germany and Galena, Illinois. Two of his sons, August & Valentine, lived in Butler County, Iowa. Another son, John, lived in St. Paul, Minnesota. His daughters lived in Parkersburg, Harpers Ferry, and Guttenburg, Iowa. gives his name as George Washington Lahr, son of the aforesaid parents, and born

household of Theodore REDWOOD. If this is my george, what happened to his

Would like to correspond with anyone researching the surname LAHR in NY state. My g-grandmother, Sarah LAHR was born in NY ca 1857-59, the daughter of Gottfried (Godfrey) and Elizabeth LAHR.
This LAHR family shows up in the 1870 federal census as residents of the old town of Westchester, Westchester Co, NY
(absorbed in Bronx Co, ca 1912). Two children were still living in the home,
Marguerite, age 24 yrs and Sarah, age 13 yrs. I'm told there were other children but haven't been able to locate any additional information about this family. A Gottfried LAHR appears in the NY P&I lists, age 28 yrs, arriving at the Port of NY, 18 May 1840. He was the same age as my gg-grandfather, so I believe this could be him as his daughter, Marguerite was born in NY ca 1842. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Pat in CA

Looking for the siblings/parents/descendants of Henrietta Langohr and Johann Georg Lahr (aka George J. Lahr, Sr.) who married in NYC, received naturalization in Erie Co., OH, and ultimately settled in Allegany (town), Cattaraugus Co., NY. Here's the 1896 obit from the Allegany, NY, newspaper:

Title = A Sudden Death

Text = Miss Henrietta Langohr was born in Torgau, Prussia, Setpember 26, 1830, and died in Allegany, NY, Tuesday evening June 30, 1896, of heart failure while sitting in her chair. Death came very unexpectedly and broke up the family circle.

She was married to Mr. George Lahr in New York on Mary 30, 1856, and moved to Allegany where they have lived about forty years. Mrs. Lahr was an affectionate wife, a loving mother, and a kind neighbor. She leaves a husband who is very feeble in health, also four daughters and three sons who mourn their great loss.

The funeral services were held at her late residence on First Street on Friday, July 3rd at 2:30 p.m. and by special requrest were quite brief; Rev. W. W. Browne officiating, after which her remains were laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery on the hill there to await the Resurrection Morning. God grant that the entire family may be reunited in heaven.

My grandfather William Henry Lahr was born 1/26/1899 in Missouri, the son of August Lahr, b. 1873 in Lewis County, MO. August's father was Henry Lahr, son of Herman Lahr, and brother to Francis (Frank) Lahr, who served with the 21st Missouri Volunteer Infantry Regiment 1861-1865. Herman Lahr and his two sons were from Prussia. Infantry records list Francis'place of birth as Oldendorf, Prussia, Germany. I am looking for any information about these Lahrs who lived in Missouri. August was in Wyoming after 1910, and both August and my grandfather Bill (William Henry) were in California by 1930. I am researching my great grandfather, William B. Lahr; son of William B. Lahr, Sr. and Sara Sterner (not Sara Metz, as appears in some of the infomation I've seen). He was born in New Jersey in 1869, became a Lutheran pastor and served churches in Williamsport, PA and Cleveland OH. In 1902 he resigned and became a buliding contractor in Lakewood, OH. in the 1870 census record of Barton, Washington Co., Wisconsin; I find her living with Peter and Elizabeth Wilkom family and then there is a Susannah Lah age 73 in the household as well.

I know Alvin married Rose Correll (I believe of Logansport, IN) and Peter was married to Theresa (maiden unkown). I have been married to Jason Phillabaum since 1994. His father's name is Richard and grandfather is Henry. I don't know much about there history but I know they are of German descent also.
