Hi

I have a John LAIDLER b.1802 Durham City father James b.c1774 not sure where, mother Ann VAISEY (various spellings). John was a master plumber at Hampton Court Palace and died there in 1872.

I have identified 8 children: James (occupation include: Wheelwright; Carpenter; Millwright), John, William H, Charles, Alfred, Frederick W, Mary A, Emily. My family descend from Alfred b. 1838 Hampton Court Palace, also a master plumber.

There is also a connection to a Ralph LAIDLER b.1795, Durham City, but I have not been able to connect him into my tree.

My LAIDLER's were in the Elvet area of Durham city.

Are we talking about the same family?

Hi all
We've come a long way with our research into the families of LEADLEY/LAIDLER in the last year. Robert LEADLEY (also LEADLER, LADELER) married Ann PESCOD (also PEASCOD) in Whitby in 1778. This couple had 7 children. Some stayed in Whitby, others moved north to Middlesbrough and Hartlepool. Perhaps your LAIDLER family is related? Database at:
http://www.barrylaidler.com/laidlerfam/index.htm
Would love to hear from other researchers of these families.
Thanks
Barry Laidler from West Aust

Rod,
Hello, from the Laidlers in Alberta Canada.

My Grandfather James Laidler, born 1895 was from Newcastle as well. He married a gal Janet Lauder who was born in Scotland. James had a brother Mathew(a policeman) , of 70 foulmouth road, Heaton Newcastle. Mathew had 2 sons Ted and George, and 2 daughters, Mary and Jean. My Grandfather James, had three sons, my father, named James as well, and his 2 brothers Peter and Andrew. Also there was three sisters, Peggy, Mary, and Margaret. The family took the boat to Canada in 1929, taking advantage of the land offer/farm setup plan in Inisfail, Alberta Canada.

Give me an email if you wish.
Best Wishes
Doug Laidler

Hello David

I've been occasionally delving into my line & I think it is also yours. I believe Robert (who returned to the UK from Australia) could well be the brother I'm descended from though I have some mysteries to clear up in that regard. a "grandfather Hogg" features in a family photo i have, but my father could tell me nothing about him, but the name obviously connects us.
My grand-father was John H. Laidler born in 1842, in Carrolton Co. GA. There were 9 children: Joseph W. Laidler, Albert A. Laidler, Rosalind Lester Laidler, Maggie May Laidler, Ernest Laviga Laidler, Thomas Franklin Laidler, Mary Elizabeth Laidler, Nancy Viola Laidler (aka Corrine) & my father Horry Hamilton Laidler born 1889.
My great grand-father was Col Watkins Laidler (1814) and his father was JohnLaidler (1783). This is all the information we have.
Would like to find out who John Laidler's (1783) was. We think the family originated in Scotland but we're not sure. We are looking for emigration records that would give us that information.

My grandfather was Francis Reay Laidler. He was a ship's electrician and lived off the West Road in Baxter Avenue in Newcastle. I remember going with my mother Nance (his daughter, still alive but now 99 and with dementia) to collect the rent from two terraced cottages in Winlaton in about 1955. I always thought they belonged to his wife Susan (nee Jeffrey). The rent was £4 per week but I can't remember if that was one or two cottages. They were completely unspoilt and not modernised at all and I think the council bought them with the intention of making a museum. Laidler is an incredibly localised name for the NE of England.
