Rev Thomas LAIN Hurt in Cyclone 1912

..from the archives in Oklahoma City, OK:

The Daily Oklahoman
Tuesday
06-18-1912
p.4/12

CYCLONE VICTIM IS UNCONSCIOUS

Muskogee, Okla., June 17 -(Special)-

The Rev. Thomas Lain of this city, missionary for Oklahoma
for the American Sunday school union, is still unconscious
at the Baptist hosital here as a result of injuries he
received in the cyclone at Nelagony.

Rev Lain was in the station waiting for a train when the
twister struck the building damaging it. His leg was
broken and apparently he is suffering from concussion of
the brain.

He is a bachelor, 60 years old, and is well known all over
Oklahoma. He has a brtoher, M.M. Lain, who is a real
estate man in Muskogee.

***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation***
Vera Bell Lain

I'm looking for information on Vera Bell Lain. She was born in TX on Sept 2, 1890 and died in Oroville, CA on Sept 23, 1968. She is my great grandmother. She had a bit of a wild streak. At the time of her death she was married to Alvin Merrit Hyde. I seldom saw her or him as a child. I always called them grandma and grandpa Hyde. I was barely 10 when she died. There is a family story of her living with an excon who ended up beating my grandfather badly and raping his sister. He was arrested but the case never went to trial as he was murdered. The murder was never solved. The man's name was probably Willie Lawson. She was living with his family in Stephenville, TX around 1920.

There are lots of questions I have but, primarily, who were her parents and are there any news reports about this case in question and where might I find them?

Re: LAIN IN TEXAS

This is an old post, but I hope that you are still reading the board. I have been trying to figure out which of the Lain's/Lane's in the Durham Lane/Lain siblings would be the right line in my family. My ggrandmother was Martha Amanda Lane (Sublett) and is listed on the 1900 US Federal Census as living in Parker Co, TX with her aunt & uncle LW & Mary Sharp. On the 1910 census my ggrandfather Edward Allen Sublett is listed as living with his cousins Luther W and Mary A Sharp in Parker Co, TX. Also listed are my grandmother Myrtle Sublett (5 yrs old) and her siblings. After hours of searching, I have finally connected Mary A Lane to Durham Lane on the 1880 census in Fannin, TX. I have also searched through many Texas Lane census reports and found that many are connected to Upshur Co, TX. Martha A Sublett died abt 1909 in Parker Co, TX and is buried in Peaster Cemetery - Parker Co. I feel certain that this is the right direction to go, but I cannot make the complete connection to the Durham Lane family. Any help you can give is appreciated.
Hi,Donna, You and I seem to be the only ones looking for Lains. My ggrandmother was a Lain and we believe they were living in Michigan when she was born about 1850. That is absolutely all we know. The spelling of the name changed about 1880 and was then spelled Laine, Layne or Lane. I have seen some of both but up until that time it was always Lain. Have you run into any from Michigan? Specifically, I think Sybil Corinne Lain, Harvey K. Lain, James Lain or Deborah Lain? I would be glad to share anything I find.....if I can just find something. Help!! You can email me at witchaunt@nex.net

Indiana Lains

Julie,
I just ran across you interest in the Indiana Lains. I do have some information on them if you are still looking for them. There are many Lains living in Northwest Indiana today. My paternal ggg-f was Moses H. Lain. I am not sure about his b.date but he is listed on the 1860 Indiana Census. He married Mary Witherspoon and had a son named John Leland Lain who in turn married Elizabeth Anna Nimrod. They had a son named Henry L. Lain who married Elizabeth Temple Bailey. They had many children one of whom is my grandmother Lyola Katherine Lain (married George Fletcher). I was actually researching my mother's family when I ran across you comment on Indiana Lains. If you want additional children's names to the above or have information to share let me know by e-mail. Thanks!

Any LAINs from New Jersey or NJ/NY area?

I am researching a step-branch of my family and have found just one LAIN in the tree. Any info greatly appreciated....

I have a Sophie LAIN married to a Nicholas KREBS. These names are on the marriage certificate of their son, Julius KREBS, who was born in New Jersey approx. 1884. but living in New York City at the time of his marriage in 1906. I'm assuming Sophie LAIN married Nicholas KREBS about 1882/1883, but could be earlier if there were children born before Julius (don't know). Sophie LAIN and Nicholas KREBS probably lived and grew up in New Jersey, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Julius KREBS was a blacksmith, who made horseshoes. I know nothing else of his ancestry. If you have a Sophie LAIN or any New Jersey or New York City LAINs in your tree, please post here or contact me directly.

Please click on my name above to see my email address. Thank you!!!

Diane I.
