My maiden name is Laine. I have an aunt Edna. I'd have to ask my dad, Andrew Edwin, what her husband's name was. He died before I ever met him. The family name was actually Polksylainen, it was changed when they came here from Finland and landed in Minnesota more than 70 years ago.

I am doing research for my friend, her father was William (formerly Willo Johanus..before he changed his name). He was born 1911, died 1951. His father was Gust Robert Laine born ? died 1952. Gust married Alexsondra Peltomaki..who later changed last name to Maki or Laino, not sure which. Siblings were Harold, Maymie Sanni who was born in Finland, martha and Elsie( who was married to Donovan Thomas).I am told that somewhere in here was an Ericka Mikkola, John A. Maki who changed his name from Turner or Tanner Maki.
I know this is all jumbled, but this is what I have to go on, a jumbled mess. These people were in St. Louis County Minnesota for a while. Please email me at :
dorisirwin@peoplepc.com
.
thanks for any help you might give.
Yes! I can tell you everything you need to know about your family in Maine. In fact, when I mentioned that you had inquired they all rushed to the Courthouse. I had assumed so they could look up more information on you and your relatives in the West, but what I later found out is that they had all legally changed their names.

They aren't allowing me to tell you what their new name is. Sorry.

I have recently scanned a copy of the 1908 Canisteo High School Yearbook. The person named in the subject line appears in this book as an alumni.

To view the pages of the 1908 Senior Annual - go to the site listed below:

http://communities.msn.com/TheSeniorAnnual1908CanisteoHighSc...

There is no charge to view or to copy any or all of the pages! I have found such delight from this book and felt selfish not to share with other genealogists! (To copy an image, place your cursor on the image and click your right mouse button. Choose to "Save Picture As" and name your own copy!)

Please enjoy your visit. Leave me a message while you're there - I'd love to hear from you. And if the images are not clear - I need to know that as well!

Shari B-)
Hi! I am brand-new to this geneology stuff but finally saw a familiar name and locale so I thought I'd post a reply.

My great-grandfather's name was Matti Laine. He came over from Finland circa 1900 bound for Montreal. But, I was told his ship sunk off the coast of Labrador so I would believe he entered Canada through there. I have so far been unable to find anything about his ship but then I don't have the name of the ship or the exact year.

My father and his mother were both born in Timmins, Ontario. Being so close to Sudbury, I thought we might have something in common.

If you think so, I could share more of what little I have with you.
