Re: Clara Lajeunesse and Louis Laperriere

My great grandfather was Antonio LaPerriere born 2/20/1887, St Boniface. He lived and had children in Trois Rivieres. I know St Boniface is very close to Trois Rivieres. He had 6 siblings: Leonie, Louis Phillip, Antonia, Augustine, Valentine and Octavie. His parents were Louis Phillip LaPerriere and born 1/28/1859 in St Leon and died 6/1944 in St Boniface. He was married to Clara Lambert born in 1866, died 1/26/1906 St Boniface. They were married 1/13/1885.
Visit my mother's cousin's web site and go to the Geneology Chart about his mother's side. He goes back to the 1600s in France. www.rjcote.com
Hope this helps a little.

I'd like to give gggramps his due. I think he deserves his name, and not what a census taker heard or a transcriber thought it looked like.

I found many records for him. He was baptized as:
Trefflé Trouillet and married as Trefflé Lajeunesse. The spelling of the name Trefflé is the standard French spelling. His ancestors used the surname Trouillet dit Lajeunesse.

The surname Trouillet was dropped after immigration to the US. He adopted the dit name Lajeunesse as the only surname. If you are tracing his (your) ancestors, you will want to look for both names.

Bap records and marriage records of the children used the name surname Lajeunesse. It last seen in the early 1900's, and Americanized to Young by the entire family. No branches of this family use Lajeunesse.

His death record and headstone have the name Treffley Young.
Presumedly, this is the name his immediate family and friends last knew him by.

So no, Thifle, Triffle, Treffik, Triflea, Frederick, etc.

RIP Treffley Young

Dear Jarrod:

Thank you for your posting!

Since you are interested in the family history, you might find the family tree interesting as well. Here is the direct link to Ernest's page:
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

I would like to chat more but am at work (I am an airline pilot currently sitting in a PHL hotel) and do not have my detailed family tree with me (I am on a hotel computer). My own tree has more details than the one online, as the one online does not include info about living people.

Please let me know if you have anything to add to the tree because it is nowhere near being complete!

Shannon
Mesa, Arizona (when not on the road)

HEY! I just happened to be browsing the internet and came across this thread! You're researching my grandpas parents! My name is Jarrod Ernest Arbour. Named after a certain "you know who". ;) My dad is Ron (of the two identical twins) and I'd really like to learn more about the family! I don't know nearly as much as you two have already described, but I'd like to know or help if I can. I can always ask my dad or others. Sandra is in the process of moving right now, and I could pass along a message if you'd like. We're here in Espanola Ontario.

Perhaps your cousin also knows about Ernest's siblings.

I would love to have Sandra email me. Please let me know if that works for her.

Also, who are your parents? I looked into the LAJEUNESSE family a bit when trying to discover Ernest's origins. His mother was the 2nd of 3 wives to Maurice -- but you probably already knew that.

I have been extensively emailing your cousin Joan SCHMUT. Do you know her?

Shannon
Mesa, Arizona

His father was also called Edouard Trouillet dit Lajeunesse, and his mother Marie Angelique Judith Meunier. Those dit/dite names sure make it difficult.
Treffle is my 4th cousin 3 times removed. My father knew his son George Henry Young.

I am looking for more information on Laura LAJEUNESSE and Ernest ARBOUR from Espanola, ON.

Actually, I would specifically like more info on Ernest ARBOUR. I am an ARBOUR researcher and cannot seem to connect this branch to the family tree. I do not know Ernest's parents.

I do know that Ernest ARBOUR was born in 1913 and died in 1999. He also had a brother named Paul ARBOUR.

Ernest's father died before 1930. His mother remarried to Maurice LAJEUNESSE, who happens to be Laura's father. So Ernest married his step-sister.

Can anyone please help shed light on this family?

Thanks!

Shannon

My Louis laJeunesse was born in Quebec in 1851. i do not as have have anything on his parentage or siblings. He died in New York State in 1930. I know he lived in Cohoes,Albany County, New York. he also resided in Northside, Waterford, Saratoga County, new York. It is possible, that he at one time lived in Saratoga Springs, New York and or Schenectady, New York. i do know that he married Ludwina Charbonneau who was born in St. Cesaire,Quebec. he may have had a relative possibly an Uncle or brother-in-law named Louis Amyot who was a dentist in Schenectady, New York. I sure am at a stalemate right now and searching. If you have any information, you would certainly be a lifesaver.

Thanks
Lou Ann

Treffle Lajeunesse (abt. June 1838) is also listed in US census records as Treffik and Thrifle. I believe the correct spelling is Treffle.

He emigrated to the US, from Canada in 1869 with his wife Philomene (Bessette abt. 1938-9). According to 1880 US census records, they settled in Friendship, (Fondulac County), WI. I suspect they changed the name to Young when they emigrated to the US.
I'm fairly certain (doing the math from census records) that Philomene was his only wife, Philomene and Flora are one in the same person. My mother is a grand-daughter of her's and remembers her being called Flora. The earlist born daughter of Treffle and Philomene is also Flora.
According to 1880 Census Records she had given birth to 8 children and 8 survived at the time of the census.

1)
2) Flora abt 1864 Canada
3) Ginnie abt 1866 Canada
4) Emma abt 1869 Fondulac, WI
5) Frank 17 Dec 1873 Fondulac
6) George abt 1875 Fondulac
7) Julia 21 April 1880 Fondulac
8) Ida, March 1882 Deer Creek, WI

According to a family record that was done in the 1980's, Treffle(y) was the son of Edward La Jeunesse and Angeline LaPaure. The records indicates the Philomene (Flora) was the daughter of Oliver Bessette and Sophie Roberts. I have not confirmed this information on his/her parents and my mother, who gave it to me, doesn't remember the source.
I haven't located his baptismal record yet, however, I have found records for several of his siblings in different parishes around Marieville, Rouville area of Montreal. His death certificate has his birth date as Aug 1839.

I wanted to note that it is curious that your great grand-father, George, doesn't show up in the 1900 census. He was 15 at that time, and his older brother Frank is listed, as are the 2 younger sisters, Julia (my grandmother) and Ida, the youngest child.

Hi Thelma, there is a Loretta Young, born 1905 in Wisconsin who is the daughter of Frank Young (Lafeunesse) and Della ? Frank was the son of Treffle and Philomena Young (Lajeunesse). Could you tell me a little bit more about your family (dates, names, etc.) so that we can see whether this is the correct Loretta. I remember my mother telling me as well that we were related to a movie star. Regards, Sue

I have recently stumbled upon a Marie Zoe Ursule LaJeunesse in my family tree. I do not know if she would be the correct person, as I have no spouse for her. She was born about the right time, 20 Mar 1884, baptized at St. Charles Borromee Cathedrale, Joliette, PQ. Her parents are Barthelemy LaJeunesse and Ursule Pelletier. Barthelemy is the youngest surviving child of Jacques LaJeunesse and his second wife Zoe Guernon-Belleville. Once you have Jacques the rest of the Lajeunesse tree is widely available, it's the Magneron dit Lajeunesse line.

I have the line from Jean-Baptiste to Jean-Sulpice to Joseph to Jacques and his 22 children. I have the names of their siblings and their sibling's spouses, to the best of my ability. I'm sure it's not nearly complete, particularly before 1832, but if I can help anybody else hook their tree in to the already researched one I'd be glad to help.

Jacques had about 7 sons that lived and reproduced, and not much info online about them. His brother Joseph's line is better researched.

Email me or post here if you are interested.
