I have an oil painting of your grandfather's called "on the Conestoga
River". It is a lovely pastoral scene that I have always loved. He sold
it to my grandparents "door to door"... it may have been in the
depression years in southern ontario. My grandparents lived in the Ayr,
Ontario area and believed he was from the Kitchener area (where the
Conestoga River flows) Thought you would be interested... and I am
interested to know more of his story....

does anyone here have a connection with william john laker circa 1870, he was married to elizabeth green...at the Bethany Hall, Caterham, believe srongly he had connections with the Salvation Army here, as a band master...

Are any of the names familiar:-

George Laker, Beatrice Laker, Harriett Laker, any Lakers from Caterham or Godstone... or desecendants...

Might anyone possibly have an email address for Patsy Laker? I had one but my computer crashed and I lost it. I am the person who had posted about 5 years ago, an inquiry into Richard Shipway Laker. He was my grandfather who painted oil paintings. He was born in Southampton but came to Canada at some point (I think as a boy or young teenager) and he grew up in Ontario, Canada. I think he may have had a brother that went to the United States. I don’t know much at all about my grandfather as he left his wife and 4 children during the depression years (my father was born in 1929). I do know he remarried and had another son.

Would you know how to go about searching marriage records in Ontario? I know that if I can get a copy of my grandparents marriage certificate then I would likely find his date and place of birth on that and then I can send to England for his birth certificate. Patsy had emailed me once and suggested this and she thought she might be able to fit us into the family tree once I had proof of his birth in England.

Any suggestions would be most helpful.

I bought 2 paintings at a local auction named The Scotian Coast and The Angry Sea, painted by R. Shipway Laker. I know nothing about your grandfathers art, as to value etc. I love the paintings regardless of value. It is just nice to know who the painter was. Any info about the paintings would be great or if you could tell me where I could find out more about your grandfathers works.

I am seeking a John Henry Laker who married Naomi Caroline Pearson (nee Peat) at Dorking Surrey in 1908. Naomi was born Reigate in 1867 and it is possible John Henry Laker was born about 1875 also in Reigate Surrey.

Douglas Laker is my gfather bn. 1900-1961 his father was Arron Laker 1861-1911 his wife was Mary Moon laker1865-1952 .Would anyone know how i would found out were they came from.They are all in the Hoosck, New York area. I have some dates starting 1803 with a large amount of them in Hoosick Cemtary.No family members left in area.If any one wants the names and dates i have E-mail me and i'll send them. Any help on this would be great!

I'm trying to find out any information about my grandfather or relatives. I believe "Shipway" was a family name and I think he was born in Southampton. He would have been born around the turn of the century (1900), not much past and came to Canada. Any info would be much appreciated.

Joseph Laker lived in Cincinnati until about 1920, and I think he had quite a few relatives of German descent. I'd like to know when they immigrated and from what part of Germany. Also, if any Lakers are still there.

PEACHEY, my mother JESSIE EDWINA LAKER b June Quarter 1914 in EDMONTON, JESSIE married my father ALFRED WILLIAM MURRELL Feb 1937, had 4 children in 38, 40, 42, 44...she left home in March 1948, no contact since. FLORENCE was living in EDMONTON 40s/ 50s..BERTHA worked for NAAFI & died in PENZANCE..both I believe were spinsters.

Sorry to bother you so soon with a request for information. However, I am most curious as to the origin of the middle name May that many of our female relatives seem to have. My full name is Judith May Heffner (nee Manns). I have two granddaughters with a middle name of May and you made mention of your mother also having the middle name of May. I am trying to trace the history of my maternal Great Grandfather. He must have been born about 1860 to 1880. My grandmother Amy was born in 1898 or 9. All I know about him is that he went to live in Brighton when my Grandmother was a little girl. There were two other children, both girls. On the death of my Great Grandmother the family was split up and my Grandmother never saw her sisters again. I believe he was a journalist and also a painter. There are so few Lakers that I am hoping someone will have some information as I would like to trace some living relatives in her memory.

In reviewing the 1901 census for the first time, I have located a cousin with the wonderful name of Baden Powell Laker. He was the son of George James and Agnes Laker and was born in Plaistow, East London in 1900. I presume the name was chosen because of Baden Powell's prominence in the Boer War during that period.

Has anyone come Baden Powell Laker in their own family trees?

searching for relatives of Dorothy May Laker believed to have beem born approximately 1889 - 1895 London England. she had one sister named Maude who died young at the age of 20. Daughter of a greengrocer I believe his name might have been Joseph Laker. My grandmother married Ronald(Bob) Arthur Manns and immingrated to Canada 1923 with 3 young daughters, Pat, Peggy & Pixie. My grandfather had been with the York & Lancashire Regment serving in India at the turn of the century and later in Belgum during WW1. I am aware that my grandfather's brother immigrated to South Africa.
