In researching my George Matt LAKES, I ordered a death certificate on a George Matt that would be in the right age range of the one I am looking for. From the information on it, I am hopeful that this is the right one. The two people listed above-Jake & Eliza (JOHNSON) LAKES-are his parents. Any more information on these two would be appreciated. I believe they would have been located in the areas of Madison/Jackson/Rockastle County in Kentucky.

Thanks,
Kristi

I am Elaine Tussey my fathers birth name was Earl Lakes later he used the name Melvin Edward Tussey. My birth certificate states that my father was born in Louisville,ky. on or around Nov. 1926. My father was married once before he met and married my mother. His first wifes name was Irene. Together they had a son. He would have been born around 1946, perhaps in Ohio, Ky, or Indiana. My father had at least on sister by the name of Ruby Becker or Baker. And he had two brothers, one by the name of Terry Lakes. My father entered into the millitary under the name of Melvin Edward Tussey. Tussey was his mothers maiden name. Himes or Hienz was his fathers name. My father's nick-name was Rollie. He was arrested for robbing a dairy farm in Dayton, Oh. sometime around 1947. I was born in 1948 and my mother brought me to Tucson,Az. in 1952. My father came to Tucson in the early 50's for a short time and that was the last I ever saw of him. My mother passed away last year and shortly before she died I asked her again to please tell me more about my father. Then is when I learned that my father had been married previously and that I had a half-brother. I have no other relatives that are alive now with the exception of my own children and would like for my father and my brother to know what a wonderful extended family they have.

Anyone, please help me in my search if you can. My father war married prior to marring my mother and together they had a son, my half brother. My father has a sister by the name of Ruby Becker/Baker I'm not sure and other brothers and sisters.
I came across a really nice picture of these two and thought a relative might want to see them (I have no connection to them to my knowledge). It is not my picture to give away, but I would gladly scan a copy and e-mail it to someone.

William B. Lakes and Carter Lakes

I just recently started searching my family tree and was wondering if anyone could help me find info on William B Lakes(born July 22,1887), and his wife. I know that her name was Mary, but that is all. They would have been my great, great grandparents. Thier son Carlous was my great grandfather, and his son Carlos Henry was my grandfather.

Also I would like any info on Carter Lakes, especially from before he came to Kentucky. I know he was married to Edith Skinner, and that his father's name was Woodson, but that's all.

I am really interested on sharing Lakes info so please email me @ timbrina@hotmail.com. I will gladly share my info with all who inquire.

Thanks!

Effie (Etha) Lakes, Jim/Matt Lakes, and Luke Lakes

If any of these names sound familiar, please e-mail me (postette@mailcity.com).
Effie (nee Angel) was my great grandfather's sister. She was born in the early 1890s in Jackson Co. KY. and moved to IN sometime after 1910 . She had a son named Luke Lakes (probably in the mid 1910's) and died (we believe in Fayette County, IN) either in childbirth or shortly thereafter. I'm not sure about her husband's first name. My grandmother was looking at a picture of him with Luke and suddenly remembered the name "Jimmatt" (all one word like Jimbob!).
Details are very sketchy on this relative and would like to solve some mysteries surrounding her life and death.

lax (lakes)

From Cindy's Lists, Swiss Link, there is a map of Switzerland showing an area in the north called "Laxx". Quick summary: Laxx was a part of the sovereignty of the District of Ilanz (Romansh:Glion). The name Ilanz/Glion goes back to the Celtic it-landa=granery, and is therefore characteristic for the fertile basin of the vally. In the late Middle Ages the old Dutchy split up into a number of small sovereign districts, which by teh 14th century had all been taken by the Barons of Belmont and united with these large possessions against the Dukes of Werdenberg-Heiligenberg in 1352. An exception in the development described was made by the commune of the "Free Men of Laxx, who went their own way. Now I know this is the true origin of the Lakes's :-).
