Of Pierre Alexandre dit Laliberte: quoting from my document, prepared by Jean M. Laliberte.
"M.L.Faucher,archivist of Toulouse,France, wrote that the soldiers at the time of their enlistment adopted a surname, known as a "war name". This custom was repeated later in France in clandestine battles by many free riflemen in order to deceive the observance of nearby troops". Our ancestor, like all others, chose himself the beautiful surname Laliberte, a surname which will become, 150 years later, the only name born by all of his descendents. It is interesting to know that more than 60 families adopted the beautiful name Laliberte and many envied the beautiful name Laliberte."
