I have Queenan's, Kelly and Doherty families on my tree. They (Queenan's) came from Sligo Co. Michael Queenan married Bridget Doherty and I'm unsure then how the Kelly's
were related, probably Queenan girls married Kelly boys. They were living in Kentucky.

Lallys in Massachusetts

Michael Lally (born about 1854) of County Sligo, Ireland immigrated to the United States then returned to Sligo to marry Maria Queenan. They returned to the United States and settled in Boston. I believe that Michael's father was Mark Lally who was married to Mary Kelly.

Michael and Maria had six children: Patrick, John, Dominick, Mary Agnes, Jane, and Michael. My grandfather, Patrick was born in 1881 in Boston.

Patrick and his wife, Theresa Doherty had five children: Ann, Francis, Gerard, Rose and Paul. They were all born in Boston or Randolph, Mass.

My father, Francis, was born in Randolph in 1916.

I was born in Worcester, Mass in 1946.

Through another genealogy site I was in recent contact with Donald Lally from Arizona. Donald's grandfather, John T. Lally was my grandfather's (Patrick Leo) brother.

I am interested in finding additionallinks to other branches of my family in the US and Ireland.
William Lally Somerset around 1832

Hi everyone

I am looking for a William Lally who was assaulted by my GG Grandfather Charles Collard. Also invovlved was Thomas Kidner. Charles and Thomas were tried and convicted of the assualt at the Somerset Assizis in 1832

A search of the Felons Register of Ilchester Goal states that "Charles Collard a shoemaker aged 21, was convicted at the Assizes 13 August (18)32 of assaulting William Lally and stealing four pairs of stockings from him. He and his accomplice Thomas Kidner, a 17 year old shoemaker, was sentenced to death, but Collard's sentence was commuted to transportation for life, and he was sent to the hulk Discovery at Woolwich on 18 September to await transportation. Kidner was also reprieved and sentenced to two years hard labour. Collard had at least one previous conviction, having been sentenced at the Sessions of 13 July 1829 to a whipping and two months imprisonment in Wilton goal, Taunton for stealing two pairs of shoes."

Has anyone come across this particular William Lally in their investigations

Bill
Brunswick Victoria

Seeking anyone who might have knowledge of husband's great uncle John H. Lally. John was born in Gloucester MA in Sept 1882. He became an attorney and practiced law in Evanston IL and Minnepolis MN. John died in Minneapolis on Feb 26 1958. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Rockford IL. I have no idea why he was buried there. His wife was later buried in Minneapolis at her death. I am hoping someone may have a clue or perhaps a way to check the cemetery film (it costs $500.00) there are no look up volunteers for Boone Co IL and I can not even access the queries page. Message tells me no such page exists. I am hoping that if I can find a clue that it will lead me to other family members. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Lally Column inventor relation

My great Grandmother Bridget Lally was born around 1865 and was married to Thomas Thornton in Ireland. She emigrated to the US (Boston) around 1886 (Thomas emigrated 7 years before her). Her father was John Lally and her mother was Bridgit (Lyons) Lally. I was told that she was related to John Lally of the Lally Column invention. I know that my grandfather John Thornton was the bookkeeper for the Lally Column Company in Boston. I am trying to find a link to John Lally so that I may pinpoint where in Ireland Thomas Thornton and Bridget Lally came from. I think she may be a cousin of the Lally Column inventor. I am assuming that they were from somewhere in Galway as that is where most Thornton's and Lally's were found. Any info that anyone has would be appreciated.

Tom

Lally - Staten Island

I have a Lally family on Staten Island. A Ralph Lally married a Catharine Mills in about 1875. The marriage was annulled then they remarried. They had 13 children. The youngest being Harold born in 1915. My grandmother Lucille was born in 1900. There is a possibility that Lally may have been Lalli. Anything sound familiar?

He was born around 1880 and was married to a woman whom he had a son that was placed in an asylum because of physical deformities.
Result - Peter Lally & Catherine Shay

I requested a "lookup" in the book for Roman Catholic marriages in Tuam, Galway for the years 1820-1829. The results were that my gggrandfather Peter LALLY (c. 1810) would be too young for a marriage.

A lookup was also made in the book entitled, "Missing Friends" which were ads placed in the Boston Patriot. The following was found dated Jan. 1858 - $50 Reward for info on PETER LALLY, son of Thomas Lally and Catherine Kelly, of Mucklin, parish Disart (Co. Galway) who sailed from Liverpool about 18 years ago, then aged 19 years. Any person giving his correct address will receive the above reward by addressing his brother James, Oregon, Dane Co., Wisconsin.

In the 1860 Census a James LALLY was listed as living in Dane County, Township of Fitchburg, State of WI, page 399.

The result of this lookup is about 10 years off from my elusive ancestor (my gggrandfather, Peter LALLY) as this would put his age as being born around 1821.

Margaret or Maggie Lally

This updates and corrects previously posted info.
I am looking for Kentucky relatives of my great grandmother
Margaret Lally Cavanaugh. Margaret, also known as Maggie, was the third child of Martin and Mary Lally and the first child in the family to be born (1859) in Kentucky. Her older sisters, Molly (or Mary) and Barbara were born in Ireland. I have found the family on the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census in Leesburg but lose them after that. Margaret's younger siblings were William and John and Nancie (or Nannie). Margaret married John Cavanaugh in San Francisco in 1883 and then lived in Los Angeles. Family stories mention Barbara visiting Margaret in LA one or two times. I'd like to link up with any cousins who know about the Lally family in Kentucky and Ireland. Thanks!

Since I have finally located and solved the mystery of John H. Lally, that leaves me searching for more info on his father. Anthony H. Lally was born in US. It is reported in his Civil War Pension record that he was born in Fall River MA. After his death in 1889 his family begins to state he was born in Charleston NC. No evidence of him there, though his pension record states that he said he lived in Charleston prior to enlisting in the Union Navy at Boston in 1862.
Thomas Patrick Lally

I'm looking for information about my father, Thomas Patrick Lally.

From the paperwork I've received, he was born in Canton, Ohio on Dec. 3, 1914.

He was married to my mother, Lillian Arline Banner in the late 1940s.

He was also a soldier in Canada for World War II. I have a copy of his Veteran's Insurance Policy from the Dominion of Canada dated 11th day of December, 1948 which was signed at the City of Ottowa, in the Province of Ontario.

The only other information I have on him is a reply from the Department of Veterans Affairs from Ottawa 4, Canada dated August 7th, 1956. Here it states that she could forward letters to him as:
Thomas Patrick Lally,
Regimental No. A- 49723,
Care- Department of Veterans Affairs,
Ottawa, Canada.

Thanks for all your help. It's very important to find out about my father because my knowledge is extremely limited. I couldn't check earlier because my mother didn't give me this information about him until recently.

Obit of Margaret Lally Condon Jacquett~b. 1819 County Down

Obit for Margaret Lally Condon or Congdon Jacquett
from “The Advance Argus”, Greenville, PA , August 23, 1919

Mrs Margaret Jacquett Dies in 100th Year.

Mrs. Margaret Jacquett, in her 100th year, died Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.(William) H.(Henry) Junk, 56 North High Street. Mrs. Jacquett was born in Down County, Ireland in 1819 (Condon bible says Tullamore, County Quik, possibly "Kings" County), and came to this country in 1829. She lived with her daughter here for three years, coming here from Bradford, PA. She was twice married, first to Charles Condon (possibly Congdon), and four years after his death to (Francis) Thomas Jacquett of Bradford, PA. (Thomas was her son). She is survived by 5 children, 42 Grandchildren, 49 Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-Grandchild.

Children surviving her are: Chas. Condon, Ill., Thomas Jacquett, William Jacquett, John Jacquett and Mrs. W. H. Junk.

Funeral services, arrangements for which have not been completed, will be held at St. Michael’s Church either Wednesday or Thursday.

Please note: What is in parenthesis are my corrections.
Condon family bible has a different year of birth, and I don't know what it is right now. Margaret is listed in the 1880 Census of Sergeant, McKean County, PA as Lally Jacquett, with Francis and the children. Her age at that time was entered as 50, giving her a 1830 birth. I have not been able to find any immigration records on her or the names of her parents and siblings. Husband, Francis Jacquett, was born in NY of French Canadian background. Her son, Charles, was born in Syracuse NY in 1852 when she was then 33 years of age. Oral histroy says that first husband, Charles Congdon, had 10 kids, perhaps that is why she only had one to him prior to his death.

Please contact me if anything clicks for you.

I have finally located a long lost gr uncle! His name was
John H (believed Hugh) Lally. Born Gloucester, Essex Co MA 1879. John was also in the Boston area during young adulthood. Then he disappeared. I found him in the Chicago area, practicising law in the early 1910 and 1920. Then I find him in Minneapolis MN in the 1930 census. He married Annie Painter, born PA. I am not sure where they married, possibly Staughton MA. John died in Minneapolis in 1958, Annie in 1975. As far as I know they had no children. If you can connect to John, please contact me.

Hi,
My grandmother was Frances Lally who married Arthur Brellenthin in 1917, they had two sons, Edward (my father, born 1919, and in fine health), and Arthur Brellenthin b. 1921 d. 1948. Frances later married Thorvald Hansen and had 8 more children. My dad always speaks of Uncle Jim , Aunt Irene, Uncle Peter, Aunt Hat, etc. I would love for my father to hear that someone is looking for grandma's family. You are right, we don't know too much about the Lally's. You have more information in your article than I have had in all my years of searching for it. Any questions you may have, I will ask Dad and see if he knows any more to lessen the mystery.

Regards,

Barbara

I am new at this and just read the message about the Lally/Chicago connection. I, too, am looking for information about John Lally. I think he would have been born between 1910 and 1919, died in the 1970's. Married to Rosemary Mullins and had three children. They were divorced. He died in Chicago. His children were: Martin, Elizabeth and Mary Lee. Does anyone have any clues? Please email me at: sldiller@aol.com. Thanks.

Just an FYI:

In the March 9, 1918 issue of Leslie's Illustrated Weekly Newspaper, there is a section titled "The Roll of Honor".

In this section there is a photo with caption of John M. Lally. The caption reads: "Among the "missing" after the first few engagements of the American Forces in France was listed the name of Private John M. Lally of Golden's Bridge, Westchester County New York. Latest official advices received show Private Lally to be a prisoner of the Germans and now in Camp Dulmen, Westfalen Germany. His measure of sacrifice has befallen him early in his "great adventures" ".

Can send scan if anyone is interested.

I am looking for Kentucky relatives of my great grandmother
Margaret Lally Cavanaugh. Margaret was the third child of Martin and Mary Lally and the first child in the family to be born in Kentucky. Her sisters, Molly (or Mary) and Barbara were born in Ireland. I have found the family on the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census in Leesburg but lose them after that. Margaret's younger siblings were William and John and possibly Nancie. Margaret married James Cavanaugh and moved to California around 1880. I'd like to link up with any cousins who know about the family in Ireland. Thanks for any help.

Seeking information on a Hugh and Bridget O'Hearn Lally.
Both were born Ireland but dates are not known. I do not know if they married in US or before immigration to US. Nor do I know when they immigrated. They had one child that I know of. He was Anthony H. Lally. Born 1845-1855 depending on what document you are reading. I find no sign of the family until I located Anthony in Gloucester MA in the 1880 census. Anthony was a veteran of the civil war. Born possibly in MA or S.C. or ??? What I do know is that there was a Hugh Lally listed on the 1840 Coahoma Co. MS census. But the family is not there by 1850. Any info would be most helpful. Thank you...

Gena Gates Lally

Austin Lally

I am looking for information about male members of the Lally/O'Malley families from Co. Mayo with the first name of Austin.

My ggreat-grandparents (Patrick Lally and Mary O'Malley/O'Mealia) emigrated to the U.S. in 1846 from the Westport area of Co. Mayo. They came first to Philadelphia; lived in Massachusetts for a short time, then Silver Spring NY, finally settling in Lee County, IL. One of their sons was named Austin, which is a name also common in the O'Malley (O'Mealia) branch of the family.

Among all the Patricks, Michaels, Bridgets and Catherines in the family, the name Austin is easier to track and may indicate a connection with Austin Lallys/O'Malleys I have found in MA and NY State. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Malachi Lally - Wife and his descendants

I do not know what Lally family I belong to. I have knowledge of a great-grandfather, Malachi Lally who left Ireland, moved to New York State, then moved to the northeast part of Wisconsin. I have visited his grave in a rural cemetery south of the city of Green Bay, Wisconsin. My father, deceased since 1958, told me that Malachi came from County Galway. My grandfather, Patrick Lally is buried very near Green Bay. I found a church record that indicates Malachi also had two daughters. I know nothing of them. My mother, deceased since 1983, believed that my grandfather Patrick had a brother John. I have an obituary notice for a John Lally from a newspaper published for the twin cities of Fargo, North Dakota / Moorhead, Minnesota (approximately 500 miles west of Green Bay, Wisconsin). His grave is in a small town in western Wisconsin, New Richmond.

As you can see, I don't have much information to use in a search. Malachi is buried alone. I do not know what happened to his wife--or even when she died. Her maiden name is recorded in a church record as "McCondrea."
I am searching for some new lead, but do not know how to go about the quest.
This is my interest in the Lally surname:

First generation:
Hugh Murphy m.
Mary Lally
(dates unknown, but in Westport, Mayo area, probably about1860)

Second generation:
Anne Murphy, b.1 Nov. 1864, Westport, Mayo, Ireland
Norah Murphy, b. 25 Jan. 1867

There may have been more children, I do not know. As yet I have no idea whether they stayed in Ireland or not.

Norah Murphy married left Ireland for Brooklyn, New York at age 20 and married Patrick Nalty. Norah and Patrick are my son’s paternal 2nd g-grandparents, and I am seeking anyone with Lally (or Nalty) connections that might be able to help me with this line. I’d be happy to share the little I have (so far).
I am interested in information about Margaret and her husband Richard. She married Richard in Co Galway, Ireland abt 1849. Richard was born there in 1825. They came to the U.S. between 1851-1855 and settled in Chicago. They had 10 children, the oldest Mary , next Peter?, Joseph, Thomas, Cecilia, Michael, Andrew, Jeremiah, Richard and James. Her father was possibly Peter Lally(Liscoonev) born Galway in 1814 and died there in 1894. She did have a brother named Patrick born in 1844 in Ireland that moved to Chicago before 1873. Information on any Lallys in Chicago, at that time, 1850's-1880's, would be appreciated. Thanks

Result of Lookup - Peter LALLY

A lookup was performed in the book, "Search for Missing Friends" which were ads placed in the Boston Patriot (1831-1850). Below is the information I received:

November 13, 1847 (Vol. 1, Page 236)
LALLY, Peter - a native of the vicinity of Balliforan, Co. Galway, who came to America about 8 years ago. When last heard from (about 5 years ago) he was in Upper Canada, and is supposed to be at present in Pottsville, PA.

Any information respecting him will be thankfully received by his brother, Edward (who landed in Boston the present year), direct to him in care of Mr. Malachy Kelly, No. 7, East Orange St., Boston, Mass.

Again, I don't believe this is my elusive ancestor as this info has Peter LALLY placed in Canada around 1842. Peter LALLY and Catherine SHAY had their 2nd son, Michael G. LALLY, born and baptised in New Orleans, LA in 1843.
