French Immigrant Thomas Lamar of Maryland

Hi. I'm looking for any additional information on Thomas Lamar, Sr. who was a French (Hugenot) immigrant who came to America (Calvert County, Maryland) on November 17, 1663.

Thomas was born about 1635 in France (I have varying claims of the region being Anjou, Flanders & Normandy). His father's name was David Lemare.

It seems that Thomas married a woman named Mary in approx. 1661 and later a woman named Anne Pottinger before November 24, 1665. I am not sure if the marriages took place in France or Maryland.

In any case, Thomas and one of his wives had a son Thomas Lamar II in 1682 Calvert County, Maryland. Thomas is my ancestor.

If anyone ha any information on these folks, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Mrs. Frank Lamar killed at Fairland, Oklahoma during a cyclone
Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 28 April 1904, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

FIVE ARE KILLED

Cyclone Sweeps Over Cherokee Nation

Storm Is The Worst Near Choteau

At Choteau John Truelove and Child Were Killed - Indian Woman and Child Killed - Communication Nearly Shut Off

Muskogee: Monday afternoon a cyclone swept over the Cherokee Nation, beginning in the Verdigris River bottoms and extended northeast to the northern part of the Cherokee Nation. At Choteau John Truelove and his child were killed and Mrs. Truelove will die of bruises.

The cyclone veered to the north of the town and barely touched the edge, most of the damage being in the country, and it is said that every house in its path was wrecked. All the surgeons in Pryor Creek were called to the country, and it is known that many people have broken limbs and serious bruises, six being dangerously wounded near Choteau.

It is reported that three were killed at Fairland, and that the town was practically wiped out, but this cannot be verified, as all telegraph and telephone wires are down. The Western Union and the M. K. & T. Railroad have lost three miles of wire at Choteau. The poles have been blown away and cannot be found.

The cyclone was witnessed by Dr. J. L. Blakemore and Robert Baugh, who were near Choteau. Ir appears to originate near Inola, narrowly missing that town, northeast to Choteau. When they saw it coming one ran to a storm cellar and the other to a plum thicket, where his legs locked around one tree and his arms around another. The roaring, whirling volume suddenly veered to the north and missed them by a hundred yards.

Truelove started to run to his storm cellar with his child. he was blown down and a wagon tongue struck him in the head, mashing his skull and ripping its way down his back. Mrs. Truelove did not get out of the house which was torn to pieces. Spokes were jerked out of the wheels of the wagon that killed Truelove and the wheels twisted to pieces. Great hailstones and a deluge of rain accompanied the cyclone and railroad traffic has been practically abandoned on lines crossed by the storm for twenty-four hours. A complete list of the dead and injured is not known.

Mrs. Frank Lamar was killed at Fairland. An Indian woman and her child, from Tahlequah, unknown, were killed. In the same vicinity a young man, name unknown, living in a cabin between Checotah and Fairland was blown a quarter of a mile from his home, struck a barb wife fence and was nearly cut in two. The house was demolished and the young man's father blown half a mile in the storm, but escaped alive.

Considerable damage was done at Broken Arrow, and two of the buildings in Fairland blown to pieces.

Lamar Family

I am searching for information on the Barney Lamar family of Richmond County,Georgia. One of his sons, Mirabeau Bolivar Lamar was my great grandfather. I believe that Barney Lamar was a child of Mack Lamar of SC and was descended from the Thomas Lamar line. My Grandmother, Laura Lucile Lamar Burch always stated that she had been born in Orangeburg, SC in 1889. Her father, Mirabeau Bolivar Lamar was born 31 Jan 1846 and died 08 Jun 1922 in Laurens County, GA. He married Maude Fannie Guedron. He is buried in the New Hope Cemetery in Laurens County. There is a CSA marker that states that he was in CO B, 10th GA REG. I have photos of marker. Any info on his family would be appreciated.

My David and Elizabeth settled in Sullivan Cty,MO the North Central border of Missouri. Bolivar, Polk Cty is in the Southern counties (where John lived). I doubt that your Lamarr's are related closely (although they are probably all related somewhere in the line). I could not see any brothers named David in any of your lineage, but I commend you on all that you have found. It is certainly more than we have found, about 6 of us searching. They are such a mystery family and records are so few during the years pre-1870. If you run across a David, please let me know. One of David's sons did use the last name Lamarr. His name was Monroe. I could be entirely wrong in my assumptions. Thanks, Leola

David b.1815 and Elizabeth have children named Lucy, Malinda Ann, Sarilda Jane, Sarah, James Y, Almarine, Moses, Monroe, and possibly John (not confirmed yet)One document I found said she was mother of 10.

Did your Lamar/Montgomery stay in Tennessee? We suspect Tenn as the place of birth of David's father. We have not found his father yet. Usually several family members migrated together to a new location.

I have been unable to find the marriage record for Elijah/Barnet/Nathan Thomas Lamar. I spent the past 3 days at the Kentucky Archives, Kentucky Historical Society & the Filson society and could not find any of them. I searched the following Counties that they were known to have been: Mason, Fleming, Lewis/Nicholas and any counties nearby. There were no Lamars. I used various spellings too. What happened to the records? Could they have went to Ohio? Did the records burn? HELP!!
Nathan Thomas is my line. He married Louisa Moss and migrated to Indiana. NO, not Spencer County. But Clinton Co.
Their children then migrated to Vermilion Co, Illinois.
Any clues or help would be appreciated
Phyllis Snider-Danville, Ill.

Our cousin, my friend and sometimes tennis partner was flying his ultra-light on Aug. 1. 2007. He had taken off from Mansfield, MA (home base for the plane) and must have had a problem. He tried to get to the airport in Hanson, MA (near Plymouth) but crashed and died.
He is named after Gazaway Bugg Lamar the GA steamboat pioneer, NY banker and Civil War Blockade runner, Gazaway Bugg Lamar.
He went by Lem and Gaz and was a likeable guy. I'll miss him. Tom Lamar Coughlin

I am looking for any information on James Lamar, b. abt. 1716, grandson of the original Thomas Lamar, husband of Verlinda Osborne. Apparently, he migrated to North Carolina after leaving Maryland and then went on to Georgia (after Verlinda died?) and started another family. I have no idea of his whereabouts in Georgia or his second family.

Thank you,

~Karolyn

James Lamar's Will 1816 Georgia

I'm an African American "Lamar" whose 2nd great grandfather (Jim Lamar) came from plantations of THE LAMARS. I found him on the 1857 will of a John Lamar, son of James & Catherine Lamar. I have already ordered Catherine Lamar's will 1829, but I'm hoping I can track whether my ancestors came with the slave owners from Georgia. If I can obtain information from James Lamar's will 1816, Putnam County, Georgia, I'm sure I'll see. Is there anyone who can help.

G.T. Lamar, son of William S. and Rebecca Geer Lamar

Does anyone know where this child was in the 1850 and 1860 census. He could have been in Spencer or Perry County Indiana or maybe even with the Lamar's in Kentucky. He was born in 1846 or 1847, making him between 3 & 4 or 13 & 14, respectively in the census.

G. (George) T. Lamar, son of William S. Lamar and Rebecca Geer, born between 1846 and 1847. Some sites show him as dying on 12 October 1884, but this was a marriage date for his marriage to Elizabeth Jeffries/Jeffers, age 19, daughter of John, in Spencer County, Indiana. He was 36 years old. This was his third marriage.

There is another marriage for George T., son of William and Rebecca, in Warrick County, Indiana, 6 December,1882 to an Unknown. I am waiting for a copy of the License. This would have been his second marriage.

I believe that G.T. Lamar is my is my gg-grandfather. He went by the name of Thomas Lamar, and married my gg-grandmother, Elizabeth Cox, about 1866-1869, believe to be in Grayson County, Kentucky. Their marriage license has not been found. (The Grayson County courthouse has burned several times, the last being in the 1890's. I have been told there are not any existing marriage records prior to the last fire.) Thomas and Elizabeth are found in the 1870 Butler County, Kentucky census in the household of William Cardwell. On 30 September, 1871, G.T. Lamar signs as surety for John T. Johnson on the marriage bond for John Johnson to marry Evaline Cox Decker, sister of Elizabeth Lamar. He again signed as G.T. Lamar as a witness to the marriage ceremony on 1 October 1871. Elizabeth Lamar signed, as witness, the consent written by Emaline Decker to the County Clerk to issue a license for her to marry John Johnson.

G.T. and Elizabeth had three children within an 8 year period. The first, Charles William, was, I believe, named after Thomas' and Elizabeth's fathers. The second child, was a daughter, Matilda Elizabeth "Lizzie" (my great-grandmother), and the third child, a son named Powell, (probably a connection to the Spencer-Perry County Indiana Powells). After the birth of her third child , Elizabeth is admitted to the asylum in Hopkinsville and is believed to have died there before 1900. Thomas returned to Indiana before 1880 and abandoned his children in Kentucky. They were brought up by two different families but were never adopted. I believe that this was G.T. Lamar's first marriage.

I would like to find out when this George T. Lamar died and where he is buried.

Does anyone have anything at all, good or bad, any possibilities ...George T. has been a problem for 30 years. Anything would be appreciated.

Thanks, Linda J.
bluebuggy12@yahoo.com
Mirabeau B. Lamar

Mrs. L.Q.C. Lamar was a distant cousin of my ancestor.
Recently I learned that Judge L.Q.C. Lamar's brother, President Mirabeau B. Lamar of Texas, was very good friends and lived at times in the household of the Roberts family, whose house I own. The Lamars and Robertses were close in Putnam Co., GA, according to several biographies on M. B. Lamar, he lived with them in Cahawba, AL, in 1819-1820 and visited extensively throughout his life. According to the census, he is lived with Dr. Willis Roberts' son Joel Abbott Roberts & wife Mary Bolles Roberts in their Mobile, AL, home in 1850:

1850 census MOBILE, AL
household of J. A. and Mary ROBERTS
LAMAR, M. B., Mobile County, Mobile, page 405; M. B., 50, GA, Attorney

**************
Many books note M. B. Lamar's courtship of his second wife in the home of Mrs. John A. Settle of New Orleans in January 1851, but only a few books note that Mrs. Settle is the daughter of the late Dr. Willis Roberts. Some sources say the married in Galveston, others in New Orleans.

Orleans Parish, LA, marriage licenses:
Mirabeau Buonaparte LAMAR m. Henrietta MAFFIT, 11 Feb 1851

I have copies of several poems that Lamar wrote to members of the Roberts family and also many letters. Would like to find Lamar relatives (and/or Roberts relatives) to exchange information with. Thank you.

my grandmother, Laura Elizabeth Strider Lamar told me as a child that I was related to LQC Lamar. She died in 1971, I believe. My mother was named Carrie Lamar and I believe was probably born in Charleston, MS.around 1921. She is also deceased now. My grandmother told me he was a physician and my mother was their only child.

I am searching for any info on Mirabeau Bonaparte or M.B. Lamar, born 1843 in Georgia and died 7/16/1904 in Alabama.
His wife Rose, or Rosa A. was born 8/12/1846 in Georgia and died 3/26/1908 in Alabama. They had one son, either
William or E.N. Lamar born in 1860. The 1900 census for Jefferson County Alabama lists both names with the same DOB's,
but shows them as living at different addresses. Twins? We haven't been able to solve that mystery. William or E.N.'s
wife was Maggie, DOB unknown.
We are searching primarily for information on the parents and/or siblings of Mirabeau or M.B. Lamar. Any info that anyone
has on this Lamar will be greatly appreciated.

I haven't read most of the postings, but I've read enough to know that I have information which would help those of you looking for Lamars from GA, MS, TX, and FL. In 1907, Alexander Blair of Macon, GA did a family tree, going back to Thomas Lamar, a Huguenot, who arrived in America in 1685.
It provides names, hundreds of them, as you can imagine. You'd have to do more research to ascerrtain the birthdates, etc., but, it would provide a sequence, as in "John begat Sarah," which might be very helpful.

Emma S. Lamar, dau of Wm Bishop Lamar II (B6) m 1807

I believe William Bishop Lamar II's 5th child, Emma, may be my great grandmother. If so, she married Albert W. Miller in about 1872. They settled in Spencer, Iowa, although my grandmother, Emma Katheleen Miller, was born in Wahoo, Nebraska in 1886. Emma K. married Irving Carroll Hastings in 1872, and he practiced law in Garner, Iowa. They had one son, Charles Albert Hastings, who married Ruth Jean Lightner in 1941, and practiced law in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. My sister, Carolyn, and I are Ruth and Chuck's two children. We believe other Lamar siblings were in Spencer for a while with Emma and Albert...my sister has more information about that.
We are fairly new to this and have not found much information connecting Emma S. Lamar and Albert W. Miller to their families in Maryland. Do you have any additional information to support this relationship? Carolyn's e-mail: cjhast@med.umich.edu

I just created a new website with many Lamar ancestors listed. There has been some disagreement in regard to family members and I would greatly appreciate some assistance in getting all Lamars in their proper place.

www.rhead-burtonconnections.com

Please check out this new website and let me know if any corrections need to be made to the Lamar ancestors listed. Please note that I haven't got all Lamars listed yet; just the ancestors that relate to my immediate family. In the future I hope to list more.

Many thanks!!
Does anyone have information on these two locations in Georgia on the Ocmulgee River, and which Lamars they were named for?

1) Lamar's Fishery, Land Dist. 7, in original Baldwin, now Twiggs County. It is noted on an 1828 map as being on the east side of the Ocmulgee River, below Macon. Land plats and surveyor notes make reference to a Zachariah Lamar
owning and purchasing a number of pieces of land in originally Wilkinson, Baldwin and Bibb Counties. (Which Zachariah Lamar?)

2) Lamar's Shoal-Lamar's Ferry- Lamar's Mill, Land District 14 in Original Monroe County, Georgia.
I am trying to determine whether Jeremiah A. Lamar (born about 1825 in Georgia, the son of Jeremiah Lamar and Susan Rhymes) is the same individual as my great, great, grandfather.

My great, great grandfather was Jeremiah Lamar. I know that he married Lucinda S. Calloway on May 29, 1851 in Montgomery, Alabama. I know that they had at least three children:
1) Henry Clayton “Hal” Lamar (1854-1934)
m. Rebecca Hortense Meriwether

2) Mary Lamar (1861-??)

3) Thomas Cowles Lamar (1864-1908)
m. May Hooper

I believe that he served in Goldwaithe’s Artillery Battery during the Civil War. He enlisted as a private in 1861 and left the service as a private in 1863 (possibly wounded at Chicamauga).

Any information about Jeremiah A. Lamar would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

My 3xggrandfather's middle name was LaMar. As I haven't uncovered his parents, it's possible his mother's maiden name was LaMar, or that it was another family surname. James LaMar Blackburn was born in Ohio about 1809, married Susanna St. Clair in 1837 in Cass County, IN. Died 1850.

Does he fit into a branch of anyone's LaMar family tree?

Henry Lamor, Ninety Six Dist. SC - 1772

From “Laurens and Newberry Counties South Carolina: Saluda and Little River Settlements 1749-1775; Neighborhood Maps, and Abstracts of Colonial Surveys and Memorials of Land Titles” by Jesse Hogan Motes III and Margaret Peckham Motes; 1994, Southern Historical Press, Inc., Greenville, South Carolina.

Section 8: Little River Above Mudlick Creek

Page 123:

Survey for John Caldwell pursuant to precept dated 2 June 1772; a resurvey of his tract of land on Little River in the District of Ninety Six, originally granted for 700 acres and a surplus of 550 acres. (The plat map contains the following bounding tracts: SE by James Johnston, Golding’s land and Hugh Caldwell; SW by Peter Strosher, Wm. Neely and Martha Moats (see note at end of this abstract); S by Mary Seirs and Samuel Neely; NW by William Neely, Gilbert Turner and Wm. Turner; NE by John Hunter, Jacob Gray and HENRY LAMOR; E by Jacob Gray.) Survey certified 20 Oct. 1772. Wm. Thos. Caldwell D.S. Certified by order of council 7 June 1774. [P13-481:0]. The original plat manuscript (Loose Colonial Plats, filed under “John Caldwell”, SC Archives) shows Matha (not Martha) Moote as the bounding name, which most likely refers to Mathew Motes, who owned this bounding tract.
Looking for a branch of the Maryland Lamars in which to connect my Charles H Lamar.
I first find him in Lafayette Co., Wisconsin in 1850.
He is born in 1819 in Maryland, died 1881 in Iowa.
Married first to Mary then second to Elizabeth
Scales (daughter of Colonel Samuel Henderson Scales), of the North Carolina Scales, on June 19 1851 in Lafayette Co., Wisconsin.
I know their are Lamar books out there and someone has researched the Maryland branches. I've gathered data and tried to tie him in. HELP
Possibly Thomas-Thomas(1635)-James(1715)-line
or Thomas-John(1693)-Robert(1729)-line?

Now, my gg grandmother was a Lamar before marriage - Mariah or Maria Lamar. She married Ransom H. Brown in 1836 in DeKalb Co., Alabama. On the 1850 DeKalb Co. census, they were living next door to a Benjamin Paden. His wife was Elmira Paden. They had the following children at that time: Miller, 17; John, 15; Franklin, 14; Andrew (it looks like), 12; Sarah J., 10; William, 8; Martha, 7; and Susannah, 5.
Hello..I am trying again to find out information on my grandfather Leo. I have run into so many road blocks it's unbelivable. His full name was Leo Adrian LaMarr. He believed that he was born on 7-30-1912. He was brought up in an orphange in New York. I have tried to search the records in New York New York, but he is not listed. The earlist document that I can find is when he applied for his Social Security card in 1937 in San Fransico at the age of 26. He did list his parents as George LaMarr and Margret Nolan. I will attach a photo of him that was taken in the 1950's. If anyone knows any information or anything that could help, please email.
