Hi Bill-
Thats interesting about the 4 different Lamarre families in the area. I had been tracking all the Lamarres on the census records looking for a connection between them, so do they connect up at all or is it just a coincidence that they ended up in Alpena? I noticed on the census records and on the phone book listing that quite a few Lamarres lived on Sable Street in Alpena, so I thought a connection was probable.

The Lamarres I was checking on were Joseph & Genevieve Lamarre (but was also looking to see if the other Lamarres were related somewhere up the line). From census info I have their children as: Josephine(1875) Mary(1880), Joseph(1883), William(1884), lauren(1888), Delima(1893). 1910 census they listed they had 9 children/6 living.

Their daughter Josephine Lamarre married Joseph Lacasse and are living with Joseph Lamarre on 1920 census.
1910 MI, Alpena Co, Alpena, p.65b, Sable Street: Joseph Lacasse(37), Josephine(34) marr 6yrs. both born in Fr Can, Joseph imm 1870, Josephine imm ?1880.

Son Joseph Lamarre married Flora: 1910 Census - MI, Alpena Co, Alpena,p.43a: Joseph(33), Flora(34) marr 8yrs. Joseph b.Michigan occ=barber, Flora b.Quebec imm 1883.

Anyways thats about all I have. I've documented the censuses of Peter, George, and Alexander Lamarres. There are quite a few Pierre (Peter) & Alexandre Lamarres in my records. Do you know what part of Quebec any of them came from? L'Islet is the area where Joseph & Genevieve(Bernier) Lamarre were from.

Thanks! - Renee

Suzanne,

Thanks for the reply. The Raymond J. Lamarre I am looking for would be about 67 give or take. I don't believe he ever married (as of 1960). Would appreciate info re a phone number or e-mail. Last I heard he was in Miami, Fla. after
getting out of the Air Force from Homestead AFB, Fla. He always mentioned he came from New Bedford. I will also search in Conn.

Hi jeanne, I can make no progress at all because I have no first names. My mother, born about 1886, told me her mother was a Dufresne. Maybe married to a Ouellett or the other way around. My mother's maiden name was Jones. She was born in Springfield but grew up in Fall River and raised by an uncle Al and aunt Lena Willett,. She said uncle Al was the first to Americanize the name to Willett. Her aunt left her the house in Fall River to my mother in maybe the late 30's. Her name was Emma Delia Jones and I feel the Delia connection may be from her mother's side of the family. She had a brother, Oscar kind of a family outcast but she took him in when she had to.Mmy mother lived in Lowell until 1926 or 7. Does any of this ring a bell? I sure would appreciate it. The Dufresnes may have been from Springfield as she was born there. My Jones grandfather worked the whaling ships and was gone most of the time. Thanks for any help. Ellen Martin Sherwood - Dufresne, Ouellette, Jones, Martin then to me.

Eugenie Lamarre

My GG Grandmother is Eugénie Lamarre, daughter of Augustin Lamarre & Luce Fournier. She married Théophile Boudreau on Nov 27, 1872 at Notre-Dame de Quebec, Canada.

Augustin Lamarre is the son of Joseph Lamarre & Angélique Talon and married Luce Fournier, Apr 13, 1847 - per the "Marriages de Notre-Dame de Bon Secours, L'Islet-sur-mer, L'Islet. 1679-1984" book, publication de: M.Armand Proulx, C.P. 636 La Pocatière, Cté de Kamouraska. P.Q. 1984.

The book has another Augustin Lamarre, son of Augustin Lamarre & Geneviève Simpson. He married twice: Emérance Therberge, Jan 29, 1828 - and Euphrosine Belanger, Feb 10, 1846.
(Not 3 times as I have seen on some web pages. Or is my book source wrong?)

I can only guess that Eugénie Lamarre died before 1909 - because Théophile Boudreau married a 2nd time to Ludivine Talbot, Jun 21, 1909 at Notre-Dame de Lourdes, Fall River, Bristol County, Massachusetts.

Please respond to this message board if you have any info relating to Eugenie Lamarre. The name we have for him is Octave Lamarre. They called him "Tave". He married an Alexina Blais around 1910. Their oldest child a girl, Marie Rose Anita was born in Fall River Sept 30, 1911
I will ask my husband if he knows some Agoneys. I have some pictures of a family in Massachuttes that were cousins, or at least I had. I will look and see what is still in the album. There were no names on the pictures though. Lorna

Re: Lamarres from Fall River

My husbands grandfather, Octave Lamarre. I have no info regarding his parents. Octave married a Alexina Blais probably around 1910. Their first child was born in Fall River in 1911, her name is Marie Rose Anita Lamarre. She died in 1998 in Eugene, Oregon. My husbands name is Octave Laurent Joseph Roberts. It has been shortned to Lawrence Joseph Roberts. He was born in a small town in Northern Canada, near LacLaBiche Alberta, Canada. Octave moved his family there at the encouragement of other family who had moved there. They were homesteaders. That happned about 1917. While the family lived in Fall River, Octave was employed at a shoe factory, he was a foreman. I recall Anita would lament this move, knowing she would never get to go to school. It was true the family was as poor as church mice. The land was unforgiving. The climate was extreme. Octave had five children, Marie Rose Anita, Laurette, Wilfred, Fidele, and Cecile. Octave died from Cancer of the mouth, he was less than 60 years old when that happned, maybe even in his early fifties.
Were the Dufresne family from Canada?
There is a Blais family in Fall River? Alexina was a Blais and she had a brother named Leo. He married one of Alexinas and Octaves daughters, Laurette. As Laurette would tell us, there was not a whole lot of men to choose from in that godforsaken land. I do believe the Blais family had moved to the LacLaBiche area and were responsible for Octaves decision to move his family there. Bad decision.

Lamarre family

I am working on my husband's family and I have Delisle/Pleadeau/Lamarre family that we have traced from Fall River Mass back to Canada. I think this group moved down to Fall River after 1878 (Virginia Peladeau was born in Canada in June of 1878).
