Just to let folks researching central KY Lambs, my husband and another descendant of the Madison Co Lambs had their DNA tested. They matched 36 out of 37 markers which is consistent with a common ancestor 6 generations back. My husband is descended from Thomas Lamb b. 1-1-1751 Spotsylvania Co VA. The other man who wishes to be anonymous for now traces his ancestry to Oliver Lamb b. 1829 Madison Co KY. I believe Oliver to be a son of Jeremiah who in turn is a son of Matthew Lamb who can now on the basis of the DNA be assigned to Richard Lamb, brother of our Thomas. Therefore, the oral history saying Matthew Lamb's real surname may be "Rose" is not true.
Ancestors of my husband and this other Lamb would then be both children of Richard Lamb (commonly called Richard Lamb b. 1715) and the woman I believe to be his wife Elizabeth Stephens, daughter of William and Sarah Stephens of Orange Co VA. Orange Co VA tobacco tithe records of 1766 show Richard Lamb, William and James Stephens to be immediate neighbors. William Stephens names Elizabeth Lam as one of his married daughters in his will.
