"The family name in the United States is quite as old as our firat permanent settlement. Thomas Lambert came to VIRGINIA in the spring of 1608 with Captain Nelson on the ship Phoenix. The Phoenix carried forty-seven men, officers, soldiers, and artisians. Captain John Smith has recorded that on December 29, 1608, he set out from Jamestown to Werawocomoco, having two vessels, the Discovery and the Pinnace. Among the fifteen soldiers on the Pinnace was listed Thomas Lambert."
