Hi everyone...I'm trying to get our family tree going, doing okay on my Mom's side, but have gotten stuck on my Dad's side.

My Dad is Lawrence Joseph LaMeire (was born LaMere, but his dad added the "i" at some point many years ago). His father was Vernon "Ernest" LaMere and his mother was Clara Rose McDonald LaMere...My dad's siblings are: Betty Rose, Vernon John, Patricia Ann(I think), Gladys Helen and Mary Margaret. All of his siblings have passed, except we're not sure about Aunt Mary, no one's heard anything about her for years. My Dad is 88 years old, born 15 Jul 1921.

I'm trying to get any information of my Grandfathers parents, grandparents, etc. I was told many years ago, that a great great great grandfather went from France to Canada, then to Minnesota, where the Johnson's (Norweigian) came in...I believe his mother was Mary Johnson and his father was Joseph LaMere.

If anyone out there has any information, I'd love to hear from you.

I have John M.Labarge s/o John & Olive Lamere, m.8 Jun 1908
at Ste Anne's, to Elizabeth Lamere, daughter of John Lamere and Mary Peet. I believe this Elizabeth is the same person as Rose.

In 1920, Rose and John are found living with Ben Lamere. Rose is identified as Ben's sister, John as brother-in-law.

Mitchel - b. about 1818
Louisa - " 1818
Mitchel - " 1847
Joseph - " 1856
Edwilda - " 1858

These were the way the names were spelled when in the US so may have been somewhat altered. All were born in Quebec.

John Lamere's parents were John(Jeanne Baptista) Lamere and Mary Pitre
John's(Jeanne Baptista) parents were Mitchel or Micheal Lamere and Amelia Ferineau
Mitchel & Amelia can be found in the 1870 census in Mooers, NY and in the 1880 census in Altona, NY. Their name changes from Mere to Lamere in the census, and in church records I found the spelling to be Myre or Mire.

John & Mary can be found in the 1870 Mooers, NY Census and the 1880 Altona, NY census. The name changes from Mere to Lamere between each census. You will also find his parents - Meshill & Amelia and other siblings.

I came across an old post inquiring about Paul Lamere. I've been researching my wife's family, whose gr-gfather was Oliver(Levi) Lamere.
In the 1880 census(Altona) you will find most of Oliver's other siblings - John(&Mary Pitre), Lisadore(&Fanny Sampica), Peter and his kids - along with Mitchel and Amelia(everyones Mother & Father. In the 1870 census, most of them will be found in Mooers, NY under the name Mere. John
and his brother Peter are living in the same household, along with their wives and kids. Mitchel & Amelia also live in Mooers, with the rest of their kids that aren't yet married.

As far as I can tell, Paul's oldest sister Mary b.1866 is the first of our ancestors born in America. I know some of John & Mary's offspring settled in Mass. John's brother Isadore settled in Iowa and my wife's line migrated from Canada to Mooers to Santa Clara to Altona to Tupper Lake to
Rome to Gloversville(all towns are in NY). At some point, their name was spelled Meher - that is the spelling for any ancestors in the Johnstown/Gloversville area. In Tupper Lake, most of the ancestors still go by Mere or Lamere.

Every summer we have a Mere Family Reunion, so I hope this email is still good and that this letter finds you. Please feel free to send us any info you have. You can find my wife's family tree at ancestry.com under the name Meher/Dallman.

Do you have any other information on Moses Lamere and Angelina Duval and their daughter Annis Rose Lamere born on Oct. 4, 1884? Moses Lamere (Lamier) and Angelina Duval are my gg grandparents.
Moses Lamere (Lamier) was born in Waterville, Que. in Oct., 1854. I think Angelina Duval was born in Derby, VT. around 1857. They had 2 other sons.
Henry Lamier born on Sept. 22, 1878 in Derby Line, VT and died Jan. 18, 1962 in Springfield, MA. He was my great grandfather and the other son was Albert Lamier.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Such an interesting story isn't it? Do you have any info about Lameres in the area, especially wausau, mosinee, westin, norrie, moon and surrounding area. Are you aware of any Lemieux connections?

I can go back several generations on the Louk side, and a couple on the Welfel side. Also I know most of the kids names and some of the dates of the above siblings. I'd also like to hear about Ellen's family too. I remember her from when I was a small child.

Thank you so much for posting a reply to my previous inquiry- You showed me our family link and I just spent the last 2 hours writing down all the information. I didn't have any of the info on Henry's generation or beyond at all. And it is all so very interesting.
I don't have anything beyond your mother's, Elizabeth, and Patricia's names. I would like any dates you have, as well as husbands and childrens.
I do have Ellen's birth and death dates, husband Roy's dates, but not Milton Stoddard or Henry (Ellen's last son with Milton.) I don't know how she died. Neither did I know that Henry had lived with Esther. Why was that? Does he have any children? I only know he was born in the 1960's.
I have so many questions!! Thanks!

You have my heart felt sympathies. I'm truly sorry for your loss but so happy you were able to find this info.
I went back and re-read your father's obit and was surprised it didn't mentioned where he has been buried.
The only cemetery we have is out on the other side of town and their phone number is 509-766-0191. I don't think they are open all day long but I'm sure you could leave a message.
Again, I'm very sorry for your loss but so happy my posting his obit helped you.

PLATTSBURGH — Brenda L. LaMere, 48, a resident of the Evergreen Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and formerly of Merrill, N.Y., died Friday morning, June 2, 2006, at CVPH in Plattsburgh. She had been a patient there since May 21.

Born in Malone, N.Y., Feb. 23, 1958, she is the daughter of John and Joyce (Perry) LaMere.

Brenda enjoyed bingo, bowling, shopping, feeding the birds and caring for her fish aquarium. She was an avid Boston Red Socks fan.

Survivors include her parents, John and Joyce LaMere of Merrill; one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Mabel LaMere of Schuyler Falls, N.Y.; one sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Jerry Hamelin of Merrill; and seven nieces and nephews, Shawn and Shannon Hamelin, Chasity, Natasha and Brandon LaMere and Josh and Jaimie Corliss.

She was predeceased by one brother, John "J.J." LaMere on Nov. 2, 2002; and one sister, Bonnie Corliss on June 4, 2005.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 10 until 11:45 a.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain, N.Y., with the Rev. Vincent Jazmines officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

She had worked at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, N.Y.

While in school, he was a member of the Lyon Mountain Boy Scouts Troop #71. He enjoyed music and was an avid chess player.

Along with his parents, John and Joyce LaMere of Merrill, he is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Mabel LaMere of Schuyler Falls, and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Connie and Jerry Hamelin of Merrill, Bonnie and Richard Corliss of Wassiac, N.Y., and Brenda LaMere of Plattsburgh; and several nieces and nephews, Shawn and Shannon Hamelin, Chasity, Natasha and Brandon LaMere and Josh and Jaimie Corliss.

Beulah Pond. Adolphus was her father. You are right there Were alot of kids. I met most of them including Henry& Lillian

I did some more digging and found grandpas version the same as Mr Lameres version. His wife and Mr. Skidmore were very close. One thing I havent been able to find, grandpa said he thought there was a child born of Mr. Skidmore from Mrs. Lamere, and that he died at an early age from a sickness or disease at some point. This while story was new to everyone, sonce I was the only person he told that to. I do know he is part of grandpas family but its hard for me to find how he fits. I know from his work that was published woth some other people many years ago, the lines Im researching are the same. My MIL has not had the chance to get copies of the book made for us yet, so I dont know how he fit in. His lines are from William and Ida Lameres. So Im trying to fit the Waupaca, Illinois and others to this Louis in Portage county. They were in ND as well. Now its just trying to fit some pieces together. I did find many articles on the trial and such.
I have many pieces to this family, but not complete. The farthest I have back is Theodore Lamere and Charlotte born abt late 1700s.

I am so amazed to see this article. My husbands grandfather passed away this past January, and some time before that was telling me this very story. I thought it was on another side of the family, but here it is. I did hear another version from him, but same basics.

In 1920 census in Salem, there was
Wupkyhed Lameer b abt 1865 Canada, widowed, and Immigrated in 1882.
Son- Wallace born 1902 Wales
Daughter- Mildred b 1906 Wales

This isnt the line of Lamere Im searching, but thought maybe the names might help you out a little bit.

To the person that created this post;

Thank you very much. I just recently found out that may father passed away. Although he and I had been in contact as recently as a couple of months prior to his passing, I was unaware that he passed away. This past weekend Aunt, May Ann, and Uncle, Ron, had mailed my mother a Christmas card and in a letter mentioned that my father passed away. After searching many hours spent searching the web for my father and finding nothing I was able to search for myself and found this article. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for posting this.

PS. If by any change do you know where his is buried.

Thank you for offering to take a picture for me and my family. I just might take you up on that offer. I have called and spoken to a gentlemen that works there and he stated that they would contact me, but I have not heard anything yet. It tis the Christmas season though. I will try to contact them again next week and I will let you know. As of right now my brother and I are planning to make a trip over to visit at the end of Jan or begining of Feb. We have to wait so that my wife can recover after having our baby that is due Dec 29th. So, for all the info.

Mabel LaMere is most likely the daughter of my Great-Great Uncle--Louis LaMere born 1860 in Mount Holly, VT. Louis was the third child of John LaMere (b. 1823) and Mary Snow. My Great-Great-Grandfather, George LaMere, Sr. was the 6th of Mary and John's 13 children. He was born in Ludlow, Vermont. John and Mary must have spent a lot of time with family in Canada, because 5 of the 13 children were born in Canada and the other 8 were born in Ludlow and Mt. Holly, VT. If what my father tells me is correct, my Great-Great-Grandfather, George spoke only French and my Great-Grandfather LaMere had to learn English as a second language. I hope this helps you out, and e-mail me if you find anything. BTW, I'm Jason Brown, from South Glens Falls, NY and am 24 years of age.

I see alot of reference here to Roy V LaMere and brothers Clarence, Harvey, as well as reference to Joseph P. and Fred LaMere. I have alot of information to share. I am from the same common Grandparents. Basil and Delia LaMere had children Hebert, Fred, Peter, William and Charles and possibly more. Hebert was my ancestor. William married to Flora had kids Eunice, Delia, James, Clarence, Harvey, Roy, Roland, Hazel, and Milford. Fred married Rose and had children Charles, Jospeh P., and George.
