Looking for ties to James Lamond, born about 1843 at (Ardchatton ?), Oban, Argyll, Scotland. He served 25 years with the 72nd.Highland Regiment in Crimea and East India. He mustered out at Simla(?) and died in India. He married and raised a family in India. His wife might have been a Jane McDonald (or MacDonald). He also had a son James.

Anybody have any information on a Robert C. Lamond or his brother Winess J. Lamond. The were left in an orphanage in New Jersey when they were age 10 and 8. I found them on the 1900 census. Both later enlisted in both WWI and II but can find no information of parents and am not sure where to look. Both married and I would like any information I can get on Robert. I know about Winess; he was my grandfather in-law and he and his wife had 16 children the oldest of which were named "Robert John and John Robert". Would love to hear from anyone related. seeking a connection mid-1800's between Annie Lamond/Lemon and Robert Fraser (b. 1832 Scotland.)

Mr. Fraser retired from the military while posted in Lower Canada and settled eventually somewhere in Ontario. He and Annie had 7 children: Donald, Margaret, Catherine, Christina, Hugh, Mary & John. They were Roman Catholic and Mary apparently became a nun (anyone who might know where to research that, please let me know.) Prior 1890, Robert took Catherine & Christina back to Scotland to live. I can find no record of a marriage or the births or what happened to Annie. I am also not sure if Annie was the birth mother of Donald and Catherine,(due to time frames) however she did raise them.

On Catherine' marriage & Robert's death certificate's Annie's maiden name is Lamond. On Christina's death certificate, Annie's maiden name is Lemon. Annie was supposedly from Ontario, but Donald was born in NB, Margaret & Christina in N.S., Hugh in Quebec and the others in Ontario. Donald was my grandfather.

Considering borders were not clearly defined till later in the 1800's, there is a chance the births and marriage occurred in what is now the USA.

I have to backtrack here on my "James" Lamond. Seems his name was DUNCAN James. I have found a birth certificate for his son (also DUNCAN James) which gives his proper name. Duncan Sr. was married to a woman named Hariette Jane ?.
Duncan senior was born Oban, Argyll, Scotland about 1843. He signed on to the 72nd Highland Regt. at Glasgow, Lanark in 1864. He stayed in India until his death.

I am searching this fellow who was known to have been born at Oban, Argyll in 1843. I'm pretty sure he was there until 1864 when he joined the 72nd Highland Regt. and served in the Crimea and East India. I found his military records at the British Library archives which substantiate this time frame, but I can't find him on a census. Do you see anything familiar here?

McGillawee....

Is this a translation, or pulled from the hat?? Just curious if anyone has ideas....

James Lamond of Kirkmichael Parish

My gggrandfather, James Lamond, was born Dec. 12, 1843 at Camb Farm, Glenshee, Kirkmichael Parish. He married Annie Gow (born June 30, 1854 in Moulin Parish), on Dec. 24th, 1877 at Glenfernate, Moulin Parish, Perthshire. He died Oct. 26, 1898.

James and Annie had about 10 children - John (Jack), Alexander, William, Bert (Robert), Peter, Jean, Jemima, Bella, Tot, and Myrtle. Not sure if all the girls are theirs, or some of the girls' names might be spouses of the men. Annie (Gow) Lamond died June 11, 1929 in Winnipeg, Canada.

My ggrandmother Jemima Lamond was born May 22, 1886, circa Rattray Parish. She married a Leslie (I believe Norman Christie Leslie?). She died Jan. 17, 1973 in Winnipeg.

I would love to get any information about this family.

John Winess Lamond

Any info on John Winess Lamond born Nov. 13, 1893, d 1963 in Florida? Married to Doris Beatrice Parkhurst of New York born May 23, 1898. They had 16 children of which 13 lived to adulthood. The oldest was Robert, then John b.1917, Harold, Doris, Randolf, Winess, William, Douglas, Carolyn, Harvey, Loretta, Herbert, twins: Will and Wiley who were born the day Will Rogers and Wiley Post died in a plane crash or so I've been told. This family totally lost track of each other over the years and I have little or no info.

John Winess Lamond was the head of Drum Majors of Washington DC and instructor for the Naval Band drum majors if that helps any.

I am looking for the ancestors of my gggrandfather Lewis LaMont aka E.B. b. about 1841 somewhere in New York. He was in Lenawee, Michigan by 1860 according to the census information.
I do not know his father's name or where they originated in New York if in fact that was where he was born.

Also lived in the College Park, Maryland area as John Winess LAMOND (Grandfather, born 11/13/1893) was a Drum Major in Washington D.C. including training Drum Majors for the Navy Band. He was married to Doris Beatrice PARKHURST (born 5/23/1898) and had at least 16 children. The only names I have are as follows:

Has anyone any got any contacts to the Lamonds of Arbroath,Scotland.Father is Alexander Lammond, ploughman & mother is Maggie Begg Lammond who died on 24th December 1909 and was buried at Inverkeilor Church. The father later moved to Hawick and remarried.
Of my Aunts and Uncles Minah lived in Perth, Gordon in Cupar,Fife, Geordie in Ladybank, Jim in Coatbridge and was a bus inspector and Jean lived in Hull. My father, Sandy moved to Southampton and married Florence,he was born 3rd March 1901. If anyone can help me get back in contact please do. Jim's family in Coatbridge included Margaret and his grand-daughter Sandra who had twins in the early 60's.

The iffy information I have is from a cousin who wasn't sure which city it was.

Dr.(?) Lamont/LaMont lived in the Hotel St.Charles in either of those two cities. Probable time frame is 1840's to 1900.

I have a fairly large data base on my Lamont researches in Cowal,( Ardnadem, Hafton, Kilmun and Ardentinny) and in Bute ( North Bute including Stuck and Port Bannatyne ). John Lamon or McPhorich was evicted in 1800 from his croft in Ardnadem where he settled as a herring curer and a lay preacher. His grand daughter married into the Lamonts of Stuck ( farmers ) who hailed from Inverchaolain across the Loch.

I am looking for information on any Lamond connections in Maine. My grandfather in law, named Weiness John Lamond, lived there for most of his life, but I can find no records of his family prior to his birth. Any help on where to look would be appreciated. There is a story that the name was changed from Lomond to LaMond to sound more sophisticated.

ANGUS LAMOND b. 12 Sep 1807 Muckairn (a parish in Lorn Argyll ) who m. Christian Lamond b. Torosay ,Mull 23 Dec 1809. Also John Lamont b. Killean ( Kintyre Argyll )on 1 Jan 1857.Also Mary Lamont b. Muckairn 16 Sep 1841.Will pass on any relevant info.

Looking for Clan Lamont Genealogy info on Blake Sept

I need help finding any geneaolgical data on a William Blake born of Cavers, Roxburg, Scotland in about 1790 (according to parish records). My main question is what clan has teritorial claim to that area of the lowlands and if so which one. I have been told that we associate with the Royal Stewart Clan, but the name Blake is a Sept long associated with Clan Lamont.

Please keep in mind that the final "d" and "t" were interchangeable and they are really both the same name. (I am using the LAMOND spelling here as that is how my family spelled it in the late 1800's and early 1900's.) I'm looking for info on my gggranfather, Isaac Lamont. Born in County Down, Ireland in 1816; married Elizabeth Moore in Ireland. They had ten children born in Ireland and Scotland.

I have just done a search in Scottish Archives ( the SRO of old)in the names Cameron and Lamont. Fascinating and an over looked source of genealogical data. Info is from 1775 in names and places ( tenants are unfortunately excluded)
