Does anyone have any info on ROBERT HENRY LAMONT, who was born in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland.
I.G.I. files (at familysearch.com) list him as the son of ANDREW LAMONT and JANE LINDSAY, however the I.G.I. microfiche file lists him as "son of ANDREW LAMONT, and JANE LINDSAY or MCKEE."
As ANDREW and JANE MCKEE, from Ballyholme, Bangor, were my gg-grandparents, I am keen to find out if this could be a missing brother of my g-grandfathers.
With exception to information contained on a gravestone in Bangor Abbey Graveyard, our family in New Zealand has no knowledge of the family in Ireland. There are 5 children listed on the stone, plus my gg-grandparent's details, but am trying to discover if there were any others born to this family.

Lamont/Hulley Genealogy

I would very much like to hear from any Lamont and/or Hulley family researchers. I am a descendant of William Hulley (second marriage). William originally came to Montreal in the early 1900's with wife Sarah Adelaide (Addie) Hulley (nee Muggleston) and children Blanche, William, Beatrice, Elizabeth Alice and Albert. Their daughter Adeleine Hulley remained behind in Scotland and later married Thomas Fleming Lamont in Glasgow in November 1908. Thomas was the son of Alexander Lamont and Margaret Fleming.

I am hoping to find information about Adeleine Hulley's father, William Hulley, also known as George William Hulley. I know in 1901 he was working as a draper in Glasgow. I recently found some contradictory information and I was wondering if anyone researching the Lamont/Hulley lines could tell me anything about him. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.
Mary Lamont - London, Ontario

After following various leads I am still in he dark about Mary Lamont. I have not found a marriage record but I have confirmed that Edward Taylor was stationed in London, Ontario with the Royal Engineers and that it is in the London, Middlesex area that he met her. Mary left London with Edward - married or not - and went to Halifax, Nova Scotia where their son, George Donald Taylor was born in 1863. They then were moved to Bermuda before finally returning to the UK. Any ideas??

Thank you
I am searching for info on my bio paternal grandmother. She was Julia Lamont and married a Frank Lipinski. His date of birth was 3/3/1890. I can find no info on her at all. They lived in Brooklyn NY in 1942, this I do know. They had addresses on Tiffany St and E. 198th St. My bio father was born in Wallington, New Jersey in 1925. So that is where they were then. This family is quite puzzling for me to find hardly anything.

I am looking for a background of Mary Lamont who was born in Canada West (Ontario) around 1842. She married an English soldier Edward Taylor in the Royal Engineers and they went to Halifax, Nova Scotia, then to Bermuda and then on to the UK. We think the area they were in was London, Ontario. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Lamont Family Photographs

I have many photographs inherited from my grandfather James Lamont who was born in Coleraine, N. Ireland in 1876. He married Isabella Murphy in Coleraine but by 1901 they are shown on the Govan census with children James and Stephen. James senior remarried in 1905 to Jane Letson (a widow also from Coleraine) following the death of Isabella and they had a further 8 children in Govan, Leith and Paisley. Regrettably, apart from one picture (naval)I have no idea who the others might be. Do any of these appear in your collection and could you name or date them. Names that might possibly be associated with them are:- LAMONT/LETSON/McCLAUGHLIN/KENNEDY/RAE/ROONEY

The pictures may be viewed via the following link:-

http://picasaweb.google.com/seamusell/UnknownLamont/Pictures

Thanks for looking.
Old Cemetery - Elysian MN - Lamont

I went to Elysian, Minnesota 56028 Easter week end and was shown an Old Cemetery where I could see some Lamont grave stones. I was shown my wife’s 3rd great grand father’s head stone, (Archibald Lamont b: 1804 in Scotland). The Cemetery has been abandoned for years and is overgrown with brush and trees. The person showing me the site said that about ¾ of the graves are under a cultivated field and the farmer that cultivated the field knows it is a cemetery and doesn’t care. He has pushed head stones into a ditch behind what is left of the cemetery. There are descendants who live in the area, but I assume they don’t care either, or the farmer has more clout in the community.

My question: Is there some authority or society that I can get in touch with that may be able to help get the cemetery cleaned up. I live in Texas and it would be impossible for me to do anything on my own.

After John Lamont, along with several hundred other Lamonts, were killed by a Campbell massacre, Mary fled with her children to Larne, Antrim, Ireland. Andrew changed his last name to Young, his 3 other brothers changed their last names to Sitlington, White & Green. The were involved in the Linen business near Larne, N Ireland

We believe Andrew died in Ireland, but his two sons John Young & James C Young emigrated to Augusta Co, VA about 1740 along with John’s children - Sarah, Hugh, John, William, Jane, James, & Robert & James C’s child James.

Goal of meeting:
Meet other cousins
Gather & share genealogy details of all the lines
Get more family stories about the frontier days of this family
Where
Augusta Co, VA - exact site TBA
When
Early Summer, May or June TBA
Who
Any descendant of Andrew Young is welcomed
What
Exchange genealogy details
Field trips to farm lands where the Young’s lived, churches they attended, and cemeteries in 1740 era
See photos from the Young’s homes in Ireland and Lamont’s in Scotland before coming to America
Hear about our DNA projects
Discuss possible book revision/update of “John Young, KY Pioneer” by Jessamine Young Wooten to include all descendants of Andrew Young

Come join us for a fun weekend

Write to us with your ideas to, we are now just in planning stages.
George Young
4316 32nd AVE CT NW
Gig Harbor, WA 98335
Oldhiker50@aol.com

Or

Roy Young
85 Fulks Terrace
Martinsburg, W Virginia 25401
roy_you@adelphia.net
I had no idea that so many Lamonts had gone to America via Ireland, i'm sure my Irish friends will be happy. My grandfather, John(AKA Jack) would be about 90 now, lived in Glasgow, or the surrounding areas, all his life before passing away some years ago. My father, Douglas, moved south of the border into England and his brother, Ian, followed him south some years later.
I myself live in London.

If anyone manages to establish a Lamont family tree that makes it back to scotland i'd love to see it

happy hunting

Getting conflicting birth places and year of date between another Catherine is off by one year but the month and date are the same. Also some say her full name is Elizabeth Catherine Lamont. This Nunemaker & Lamont union had daughter Eliza Jane Nunemaker who married William J. (also known as Hartel) Couch. Thank you Terri

I am married to Barry Lee Lamonds, b. 11/26/1955, Troy, Montgomery County, NC. His father was Billy Lee Lamonds, b. 7/18/1933, Montgomery County area. His father was Harry B. Lamonds, b. 12/10/ (will have to look the year up). Harry had a brother Fred and a sister Ola Pauline. Pauline married a Hanlon and moved to Kentucky. Their parents were Bennie Lamonds and Charity Elizabeth Allen Lamonds. That is as far back as I can go on the Lamonds side. Bill did tell me that at one time he had been to a local cemetery and seen tombstones with MacLammonds/MacLamonds on them. Any additional help is appreciated.

Gennett/Jennett (Ginne?) LAMONT (1776-1841) NY>Michigan

My 4th-great-grandmother's name was Jennet LAMONT. According to the transcripts from the Cole family bible, available in the Historical Department in Batavia, New York, she was born 12 May 1776 in New York State and died 12 August 1841 in Spring Arbor, Jackson, Michigan. She is buried in Spring Arbor Cemetery. On 15 September 1805, she married John COLE; though the Bible does not say where this occurred, I believe it happened in New York State, as their first few children at least were born near Western, Oneida, New York.

John and Jennet Lamont Cole's children were: Claudious (b. 14 November 1806), Justus Hand (b. 06 January 1808 in Western), Sarah (b. 28 August 1809), John Lanson (b. 15 May 1811), Abiah Gennett (b. 28 October 1812), Archibald (b. 28 January 1816, in Western), Eaton (b. 08 September 1817) and Elizabeth (b. 14 March 1820). The family appears in the Western, Oneida, NY census in 1820 and the Spring Arbor, Jackson, Michigan census in 1840; I am still trying to figure out their migration between 1820 and 1840.

In 1999, Fran Lamont posted:

"I have a copy of LAMONT - ELDREDGE family Records 1948. It starts with Archibald Lamont (son of John) born abt. 1724 Colerain, Antrim, Nothern Ireland, died April 24, 1795 Hillsdale, Columbia, New York. Married Abiah Smith abt. 1773. They had 5 children, Martha born 1774, Ginne born 1776, Rosannah born abt.1778, Mary born abt. 1880 and Josias born 1784."

I wonder perhaps if "Ginne" and "Jennett", also spelled "Gennett" and "Gennet" are one in the same? I think it is perhaps significant that Jennett Lamont Cole had children named Archibald (who is my 3rd-great grandfather and has quite a story of his own) and Abiah.

...Barb

Lamont ancesters

To inquiries about Lamont ancesters in the U.S., most of you are decended from the ancient Lamont clan of Argyllshire in Western Scotland. In the 1600's many Scots migrated to N. Ireland and my first American forebear was Archibald Lamont who sailed from Coleraine in N. Ireland to N.Y. around 1745. Senator John McCain's great grandfather married a descendant of Mary Young Lamont, who migrated from Scotland to N. Ireland in 1646. See McCain's book, "Faith of My Fathers", and you might also be interested in my book "The Ambassador From Wall Street, the story of Thomas W. Lamont, J.P. Morgan's Chief Executive. The Clan Lamont is an active on going organization in this country and Scotland, and there are many sources providing clan history.

Sir James Lamont killed in 1646 Castle Toward by Campbells and Duke of Argyle

Waaaayyyy back. I have traced one of my family lines back to Andrew Lamont, son of Sir James Lamont. Andrew escaped the 1646 massacre of the Lamonts and took his wife, Mary Adair to Ulster, County Antrim, Ireland. I have traced the Lamonts 400 years earlier, coming from Ireland to Scotland. I just need to tie the two ends together. Does anyone know where I can get the history of the Lamonts from 1200 to 1600, especially the ancestral tree of Sir James Lamont of Toward Castle? Please email me directly, rcrwin70@aol.com.

Mahalo from Hawaii

William Lamont brn 1824 Bridge of Tilt, Scotland

Hey there guys, I was wondering if anyone out there could help me with some information. I am trying to trace information on my tree before the migration to Australia. I am still relatively new to this and am finding it a little hard out here as information is a little limited or expensive to obtain.

I am trying to trace ‘William Lamont’ Born 1824 approx, migrated to Australia (arrived here 26 July 1841) on the ‘William Abrams’ through the bounty migration scheme. I believe his parents are Peter Lamont and Ann Gow. Possibly born ‘Bridge of Tilt, near Pitlochry. He died out here in 1900. I know the info is limited but doing the best I can at present.

Hoping somebody could help out even with the smallest lead.

Kind regards,

Greg Lamont
Australia
Aberdeen to Argyll? - Malcolm & Euphemia Mitchell Lamond or Lamont

Not sure if I have this family correct as much of the information I gathered on these folks came from the IGI. I think it may be fairly accurate though.

Malcolm Lamond b. 1752 married Euphemia Mitchell b. unknown. May have married in Crathie, Aberdeen, Scotland. Their two children, Janet b. 1776 & William b. 1778 appear to have been born in Aberdeen as well. Their next child, Elizabeth Lamont b. 1781 appears to have been listed as having been born in Scotland (nothing else). The next child John b. 1784 again is listed as having been born in Aberdeen, as is true with the next two children, Alexander b. 1788 & Margaret b. 1782.

At some point in time the family most have moved to S. Knapdale, Argyll? Their daughter, Elizabeth Lamont, was married in S. Knapdale in 1802.

Anyone out there related?
Sincerely,
Sue O'Meara

William and Isabelle Jane McPhee Lamont family picture. It contains 6 boys, 3 girls, and parents. Pearl Lamont Cheesman was the youngest and passed away at age 96, Aug.2, 1998. She was born in Ontario, Canada. In 1950 she had 2 brothers living in Portland, OR.. This a beautiful picture for genealogy and any relative can claim it. Just prove it. And it is yours. She had no children, and was the last in the family to pass on.
