He had no children with Margaret or Elizabeth. He had Raymond Jr. with Julie Webb. The others were from his marriage to my grandmother Betty Lou.

I have a copy of the 1815 deed of George Lamp and Elizabeth his wife. No where in the text does is say Elizabeth was
an Indian. Elizabeth had a dower right to her husband's property and had to give consent to the sale. Both George and Elizabeth made their mark "X". In VA as early as 1787 it was an absolute prohibition for a "white person" marrying other that another "white person" until Loving ET UX. v. Virginia Supreme Court of the United States, June 12, 1967, Decided. Chief Justice Warren's delivered the opinion of the Court the anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional.

Hi,

William Lamp (1884-1971), my grandfather, was married to Maude Blanche Ferree (1881-1941) and his parents were John Lamp (1856-1915)and Virginia Rickey(1855-1941).

John Lamp had a brother George (1855-1880), so I don't think this is the same connection. I searched for Garret Lamp and he doesn't appear on my tree.

Thanks for your inquiry,
Paul

Hi Beth Ann, thank you for replying to my query, believe it or not I know you, I am your Dad George's cousin, we lived next door to one another all our lives (on Hancock Street, in Keansburg), we always called your Dad Snoozer. Your grandfather John Herbert, we called him Uncle Herby and my Dad were brothers. Sad to say, the last time I saw you was at your Dad's funeral, I met your brother William there also, your Mom Claire I knew since your Dad and Mom started dating. My name is Joanne, ask you Mom, I believe she will remember me, or as least I hope she will. I have a few pictures of your Dad and me when we were little kids, and his high school graduation picture. I have seen your Uncle John, or Buddy as we use to called him since the funeral also, I see Donald quite a bit, every couple of months or so, he drives by here a lot, or I go down to his house and see him. You grandmother maiden name was Loretta Bender, wish you could have met her, she was a very great and gracious lady. If you want to know anything more, please write me back, I have quite a few pictures, and a lot of information on the Lamps. I can be reached at the following: Jcjoanne521@aol.com

Willem Lamp of Haarlem, Holland

I have a Willem Lamp who married my mother-in-law about 1944. Willem was the youngest of 8 children. He was born Dec. 2, 1882 in Haarlem, Holland. His parents lived in Haarlem Holland but I think they were from Germany and did not like the politics of that time period and so moved to Haarlem. The family owned a fine china/gift type business.

Willem came to the United States in 1917 with his wife Josephine and they settled in Clarksville, TN where he was a tobacco exporter for European market. After his wife died at age 31 he remarried a lady named Dorthory. After that marriage ended he married a 3rd time to my mother-in-law, Mary Rives Proctor.

Willem died in Clarksville in Nov. 1978. I wish I knew more about him. I hope someone can fit him into their Lamp family.

My Great Grandmother was Nancy Jane (Givens)Lamp married to William A. Sarah Levina was my grandma and their dau. I have all the childrens b dates. Many times people have confused Nancy Jane O'Dell with Nancy Jane givens. Also in the census posted it says R C Lamp. His name was Arcie. Obviously the census taker confused the name just being initials.

Joanne,
I don't know if there is any connection here at all, but in the late 1960's and early 70's I lived in NYC. I always looked in the phone directories to see if their were Lamp's (since it is not a common name) every where I traveled.
I found one Lamp in the entire NYC phone directory, William Lamp. I called this number only to find that William had passed away, but was talking to his wife whose name I can't remember. She was very sweet to me and even invited me to her home. She was interested in my Lamp family and wanted to know what they looked like. I described my father to her and she only said...just like my William.
She told me that they were of Polish/Jewish descent and that the family had came to this country to escape persecution and prejudice.
I don't know if any of this has any meaning to you, but I have always been sorry that I never visited this lady. Years later when I became serious about my family genealogy I felt that she may have had information to share that would have been useful to me later on.
I am from the branch of the Lamp family who ended up in WV, but I have always felt a bit of a connection to this woman. From what I gathered from our conversations her William looked alot like my family.
Please get back to me if any of this makes sense to you, I have often wondered about William Lamp and his wife.

Blessings
Brenda
Thank you for offering accurate info to the LAMP posters!

I would be happy to have the correct dates and names for my Ancestry.com tree posting. I love fixing mixups in my research. My tree is called DAVIS O'BRIEN Jun08.

I have always used Arcie, but I want to make sure his siblings, their spouses, children, etc are accurate. I have had several questions about this family (partly due to their unusual name selections) and would love clarification.

Thank you again, Karen Davis Sowards
SowardsFam@aol.com

I have heard of many of these people through elders in the family. I am the granddaughter of Herbert Lamp who died in 1990. His children are John Lamp, NJ, Donald Lamp, NJ and George Lamp, my father who passed away in 1991. My grandfather was married to Loretta Lamp. If any of this makes sense to you please reply. Thanks... Beth Lamp-Jenkin
