Surnames: Lamport
Hello,
I am researching my maternal grandfather's family tree and there are a lot of unknowns. Maybe someone here has some answers.
Sarah Elizabeth and Edward Lamport lived in Michigan in the mid to late 1870's. They had children Edward J(born 1876), Joseph Samuel(born 1879) and Ida Katherine. Sarah Elizabeth was born in Michigan approx 1862, her father being born in Scotland and her mother born in Canada West. Our family does not have her maiden name, unfortunately. Edward, as family legend would have it, was from Canada.
I have found the Lamport family living in Stephen Twp, Huron, Ontario Canada in the 1800's but as yet have not been able to substantiate a link between them and my Edward Lamport. They certainly have a lot of Edwards and Josephs (my grandpa was Edward, his father was Joseph, and his father was Edward) so I suspect they are my ancestors but cannot prove it. Also, there is a Joseph Lamport who had children Joseph Samuel and Edward in Ionia, Michigan, they are about five years too early. That branch must be related to my branch due to the similarity of the sibling names.
Please, if any of this sounds familiar, let me know. I have been searching for over a year myself and my grandmother searched for a long time also. We would surely like to solve this family mystery.
Kathryn
