Thomas Warren Lamport b circa 1782 - 1852, Poole, Dorset

Hi, I am researching my Lamport family and have come up against a brick wall with my GGGG Grandfather Thomas Warren Lamport. I know he was born circa 1782 and died in Poole, Dorset on 28/10/1852. He was a Unitarian which makes it a bit difficult for me to track records, so if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. My biggest headache is that I can't seem to find him on the 1841 or 1851 census which I find very odd. The earliest record I have for being in Poole is 1804, then in 1812 a newspaper article refers to the "Poole Classical and commercial academy". There is reference in 1816 to him being a "dissenting minister" of Poole. His wife Mary, died in 1825, aged 37.....'after a lingering illness'. They had 5 children as far as I have researched, the youngest my GGG Grandfather William Henry Lamport was only 6 when she died. I can only assume that Thomas remarried, but have found no record of such a marriage, but I can't see that he would bring up 4 young children by himself.

If anyone can help me with information on this elusive relative I would be immensely grateful.

regards,
Karin
Cape Town, South Africa

The son of Freeborn or F.S. Lamport of NYC, he reportedly wed Frances McCormick. He lived to be age 90 in 1930 and died either in Georgia or Louisiana. He was a secretary/treasurer of a grandite company in Georgia for a time. He lived in Duval County Florida in 1920. He was earlier in Tennessee. He may have had a second wife named Theresa. His child by Francis McCormick may have been raised by her maternal grandparents in NYC. Did he have other children besides Susan?

Freeborn S. Lamport was of Troy, NY area in 1850, a little further south by 1860 dealing in lumber on the Hudson River and finally in New York City. I suspect he was son of John and grandson of William Lamport. Any descendants out there?

Sarah Elizabeth and Edward Lamport

Hello,

I am researching my maternal grandfather's family tree and there are a lot of unknowns. Maybe someone here has some answers.

Sarah Elizabeth and Edward Lamport lived in Michigan in the mid to late 1870's. They had children Edward J(born 1876), Joseph Samuel(born 1879) and Ida Katherine. Sarah Elizabeth was born in Michigan approx 1862, her father being born in Scotland and her mother born in Canada West. Our family does not have her maiden name, unfortunately. Edward, as family legend would have it, was from Canada.

I have found the Lamport family living in Stephen Twp, Huron, Ontario Canada in the 1800's but as yet have not been able to substantiate a link between them and my Edward Lamport. They certainly have a lot of Edwards and Josephs (my grandpa was Edward, his father was Joseph, and his father was Edward) so I suspect they are my ancestors but cannot prove it. Also, there is a Joseph Lamport who had children Joseph Samuel and Edward in Ionia, Michigan, they are about five years too early. That branch must be related to my branch due to the similarity of the sibling names.

Please, if any of this sounds familiar, let me know. I have been searching for over a year myself and my grandmother searched for a long time also. We would surely like to solve this family mystery.

Kathryn

I am a Lamport, originally from Illinois. I am trying to piece together my roots and hope you can help.

I'll list my patriarchs names and dates. See if you can merge your information with mine.

1. Mark Alan Lamport (1955-), born in Illinois, son of

2. Donald Keith Lamport (1927-1997), born in Illinois, son of

3. Varley Harold Lamport (1905-1996), born in Illinois, son of

4. Asby McClure Lamport (1878-1965, born in Ohio, son of

5. George Wheaton Lamport (1833-1899), born in Ohio, son of

6. Joseph Lamport, possibly married to Josephine (Wheaton) Lamport--that is all the information I have.

Interesting notes:

1. I have been to Lamport, England--a very small village 75 miles north, northeast of London.

2. There are a number of Jewish Lamports both in the US and Russia.

Let's compare notes.
