I have a Mellisa Lampton born in Ohio whose father was born in VA. Mellisa was married to H Thomas Williams, and I found a woman named Irene Jackson who had a Joshua born to this couple. I have a William born to them. Her information was old and I can not get a hold of her. I am looking for her and other cousins of that family whether or not you are of the Lampton line or Williams line. It looks like Thomas dies early on, but was he old? Or did he die young of an illness. Joshua also dies in his 40s. Colon cancer runs rampant in my family and have traced it to the Williams line. At this point not sure if it's coming from Thomas or Mellisa's line. Please get a hold of me if this is your family.

A REVISED HISTORY OF THE LAMPTON FAMILY IN AMERICA FROM 1664

Foreword and Introduction

In the latter part of the year 1914, a small pamphlet entitled "Sketch of The Lampton Family in America 1740-1914" was published privately and distributed among members of the family. This pamphlet was edited by Dr. Clayton Keith of Louisiana, Missouri, whose mother was Martha Jane Lampton, a daughter of Joshua Lampton (3) who was born in Virginia, moved with his family to Kentucky about 1780, married there and in the middle 1800's moved his family into Missouri and there ended his days on earth.

Dr. Keith had contacted many members of the Lampton family living in the United States, asking for information concerning members of the Lampton family in America and then correlated the information received into a series of columns and articles about Lampton genealogy which were published in a local newspaper.

One of the persons contacted by Keith was Mrs. Mary Lampton Reid of Magnolia, Mississippi who was intensely interested in the history of the Lampton family in America and she prevailed upon Dr. Keith to put the information they had gathered into the small pamphlet named above.

Another member of the Lampton family Keith contacted was Mrs. Alice Lampton Kell, paternal aunt of the present writer. She responded to his request for information with a lengthy letter giving what she knew of her branch of the family in Ohio as well as an interesting narrative of the trip she and her husband, the Rev. Robert Kell, had taken following their marriage. Mr. Kell was a native of Chester-le-Street, County Durham, England which is the seat of Lampton Castle and the ancestral home of the Lampton family.

The surname LAMPTON, as we know it in America, is spelled with a "P" while there are some lines of the family in England that spell it with a "B". When researching family history in the Church of St. Mary & St. Cuthbert, Chester-le-Street, it was noticed tht in early records (15th & 16th century) the name was spelled LAMPTON, while in later entries, mainly toward the middle of the 19th century, it was often spelled LAMBTON.

An interesting feature we found while doing our research into the origin of the Lampton family in America, is that, in records of persons coming into this country with the name Lampton, or some orthographic variant of the phonetic sound, are all said to have originated in County Durham, England.

On one trip to England, it was noticed that in the London borough of Hounslow there is a Lampton Road, Lampton Park, and Lampton House. Upon later inquiries to borough officials as to the origin of, and spelling of, the name "LAMPTON" we were told in a letter:

"We have very little information of the origin of the name. Lampton has always been considered smaller than a hamlet and came within the Parish of St. Leonard's, Heston. One derivation is thought to be 'lamb farm'. The Anglo-Saxon version would have been 'lamb-tun' but the first document recording the name dates from 1376 when 'Lampton-feld' is mentioned. In 1426 'Lampton' is recorded on a document and in 1611 the spelling 'Lambton' is used."

On a subsequent trip to England, we searched records of the Church of St. Leonard's, Heston, trying to find persons from the parish who had taken the surname Lampton from their residency in the hamlet, but our search was in vain.

CHAPTER ONE: BEGINNINGS

The starting point for our research of the history of the Lampton family in America was the small pamphlet previously mentioned, published by Mrs. Mary Lampton Reid and Clayton Keith in 1914.

Much of the information contained in that publication, as well as financial support for it's publication, seems to have been obtained through the efforts of Mrs. Reid. There was much correspondence between Mrs. Reid and Keith and also between Keith and Mrs. Alice Lampton Kell in Ohio. We are in possession of much of that correspondence which was given to us before Mrs. Kell's death and we have seen Mrs. Reid's correspondence through the courtesy of her great-nephew, Lucius Marion Lampton, who, while a student at Rhodes College, discovered the letters and genealogical material which Mrs. Reid had collected, as well as the material on the Lampton genealogy which Mrs. Reid's sister, Mrs. Ouida Lampton Holmes, had collected following Mrs. Reid's death.

On September 10, 1914, Mrs. Reid wrote to Mrs. Kell as follows:

"I wish that you would let me turn over to you all the information about our family and that you would write a book of the Lamptons. It would take time, but you might stretch the work over a long period. We could trust to raising the money to publish it when the manuscript was ready. Dr. Keith's Sketch is full of interest but I could wish for the material to be used in a more consecutive manner and more in the form of a story of the family."

In the pamphlet, a great deal of space was given to information concerning Samuel L. Clemens, the writer known as "Mark Twain", who was a son of Jane Lampton Clemens. It seems that Clayton Keith was acquainted with the Clemens family in the later part of the 19th century (his mother was a cousin to Jane Lampton Clemens) while he was a medical student in St. Louis, Missouri. In a "personal history chart" which Keith filled out with his personal history and sent to Mrs. Reid, then to Mrs. Kell, he says that when he knew the family at that time, Sam's middle name as "Lampton". It is not our intention to start a controversy concerning [Samuel L. Clemen's] Mark Twain's middle name since our story is about the Lampton family and we shall leave Mark Twain to his official biographers.

One of the disturbing features of Keith's Sketch is the prominence he gave to the tale that the Lampton family in America had it's beginnings with William and Samuel Lampton, the two eldest sons of the Earl of Durham, who came to Virginia about 1740, settled there, and subsequently moved into Kentucky.

We do not know who, why, or how this story began, but we do have a letter from Dr. Keith written to the Rev. Robert Kell, dated February 1914, asking for information on
"Lamptons he had known" and quoting this tale which he had taken from a publication entitled, "History of Pike Co., Mississippi" authored by one Luke W. Conerly.

A bit of checking into British history and the Earldom of Durham would indeed have shown this tale to be false since John George Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, was not born until 1792, was raised to the peerage in 1828 with the title Baron Durham, and in March 1833 created First Earl of Durham and Viscount Lambton.

Family folklore passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth usually based on fact, often has a tendency to become distorted but we feel the story of William & Samuel Lampton in Virginia as the progenitors of the family in America was based on fact. Later in this story, we shall see that there were two brothers William Lampton (5) and Samuel Lampton (4) who did move from Virginia into Kentucky. They were definately not the sons of the Earl of Durham, but great-great-grandsons of Marke Lampton (1), who was actually the progenitor of the Lampton family in America.

Up until 1781, when the Treaty of Paris was signed ending the Revolutionary War in America, Virginia was literally an English Colony and the Virginians thought of themselves as Englishmen.

As we have already said, the starting point for our research into the history of the family in America begins with the fact that we grew up with Keith's small pamphlet in the family bookcase. It was not until after graduation from college, and later, that we began looking into telephone directories for persons with our name and to visit County Courthouses in Virginia and Maryland looking for "Lampton" records.

One incident especially stands out in memory. While serving a visiting professorship at Western Maryland College and browsing in the college library, we took down a volume of "Maryland Archives" from the shelf and found a record that "January 10, 1664, at a Court held in Charles' County Maryland, Marke Lampton was presented to 'have his age judged'". He was judged to be 16 years of age. This entry was the spark that caused us to search farther and deeper than we had been accustomed to doing.

While this story of the Lampton family in America from 1664 has largely been an individual effort, we must acknowledge and give credit to those persons who have assisted us by giving information from their branch of the Lampton family. Throughout this work we shall try to give such persons credit when we discuss their particular branch of the family.

We are particularly indebted to our late cousin, Josephine Lampton Price of Zanesville and Columbus, Ohio, who was also a niece of out Aunt Alice Lampton Kell. Josephine would take her vacation time to visit genealogical libraries in Ohio and Kentucky and maintain a quite voluminous genealogical correspondence. Much of the material we have from Ohio and Kentucky is the result of her work.

We also must again acknowledge our indebtness to Lucius
"Luke" Marion Lampton of Jackson, Mississippi, the great-nephew of Mrs. Mary Lampton Reid, of Magnolia, Mississippi.

Luke was so very positive in his assertions that Mrs. Reid's family history had not been lost, that he talked to many of the family members in the Tylertown, McComb, Jackson, Mississippi area and finally found a large box full of Lampton genealogical material and correspondence that had been accumulated by Mrs. Reid and her sister, Mrs. L.M. Holmes. Luke very generously loaned this material to us and the wealth of genealogical material it contains concerning the Lampton family has necessitated our writing this, the third edition of our "History of the Lampton Family in America from 1664".

With all this material plus that which was handed down to us by Mrs. Kell before her death, we feel that we are fulfilling the wish of Mrs. Reid when she wrote to Aunt Alice in 1914, "I wish that you would let me turn over to you all the information about our family and that you would write a book about the 'Lamptons'".

It seems that in almost every generation of the Lampton family in America, male children have been given the same Christian names as their fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers! This makes for a hectic situation for the genealogical researcher who has to decide whose William Lampton was the son of whose William, Joshua, or Samuel, or which James J. Lampton was the model for Mark Twain's character of Col. Mulberry Sellers!

In this study we have tried to list births, deaths, marriages, and such other vital information in a chronological form, and, according to this, have assigned a number to many male members of the Lampton family which we discuss. Since this numbered list was published in the first and second editions of our work on the Lampton family and has been used so extensively in correspondence and verbal communication with members of the family, it is thought that it should remain unchanged. We have added a few names to the list here, but otherwise it remains as originally printed.

NOTE: as told by Leona Ethel Lampton, granddaughter of Beverly Taylor Lampton: Beverly Taylor Lampton and his older brother, Benjamin F. Lampton, crossed over into Missouri from near Winchester, KY when the state of Missouri was opened up for settlement. They settled in Clay County near the present town of Gashland, built their own brick kilns and built their houses with their own bricks. Benjamin Lampton represented Clay County in the Missouri Legislature in 1850 and 1860.

John Lampton (2), second son of William Lampton (3) and Martha Schooler was born in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, June 8, 1766 and moved with his family into the Kentucky about the year 1780. We are told that the family, were at first, inhabitants of Bryan's Station near Lexington, KY, but we also have a record of a William Lampton as taxpayer in Lincoln County in the year of 1787. Perhaps the family did first migrate to Bryan's Station in 1780 and following the Indian attack on the station in August of 1782, led by the notorious Simon Girty, the family moved on to their own land.

John Lampton (2) would have been about 15 years of age when the family moved from Virginia to Kentucky and we are certain that he most probably was an expert in the use of the Kentucky rifle and did his part in repelling Indian attacks on the settlers in the area.

John Lampton (2) married and settled down on a farm in Clark County, KY near the town of Winchester, where he and his wife, Tabitha, raised a family of 12 children. He followed his father, his grandfather, and his great-grandfather as a tobacco planter.

Our information about John Lampton (2) and his family has been amassed from State and County records of Kentucky, U.S. Census records, and personal communications from several of the descendents of this family.

We have no record of a land grant for John Lampton (2) but a deed in Clark County, KY, dated March 27, 1798 shows that John Lampton bought 43 acres of land on Four Mile Creek.

26 JAN 1813 - John Lampton & Julius Watts sell 30 acres of land on Four Mile Creek (Land adjoining Joshua Lampton's farm).

1818 - John Lampton & Thomas B. Moon endorse a note for William Lampton who owes the Winchester Bank $1,300.00

18 JUN 1819 - Ambrose E. Eubank mortgages to John Lampton all his livestock, farm equipment, an household goods as collateral on a large note signed by John in his behalf. [John E. Lampton Jr. (4) married Catherine Eubank-km]

05 JUN 1821 - John Lampton buys 108 1/4 acres of land on Four Mile Creek from Thomas Vivion & wife.

21 JUN 1822 - John Lampton and Tabitha, his wife, sell 13 acres and 16 poles of land on Four Mile Creek to Jon Rutledge.

DEC 1827 - John Lampton (2) died intestate.

22 DEC 1827 - Articles of John Lampton Estate sold at auction by Benjamin Lampton, Administrator. Buyers, (in part), William Crosswhite [daughter Matilda's future husband-km], Tabitha Lampton [widow-km], Matilda Lampton [daughter-km], Benjamin F. Lampton [brother-km], who bought the slave, Robbie, and other family members.

There seems to have been quite a bit of trading and buying and selling of parcels of land, land lots, dower rights, etc. among members of the family following the death of John Lampton (2). Having died intestate, it appears from all the deeds and legal documents that his widow, Tabitha Taylor Lampton, finally reassembled much of the home property and continued to live there with the younger members of the family. Matilda Lampton, born in 1806, was not married until 1831 and Beverly Taylor Lampton, the youngest child, was only 11 years of age when his father died.

Tabitha Taylor Lampton, born February 27, 1770 eventually joined her husband in death.

A record in Deed Book 30, Page 369, Clark County, KY, reads:

"Beverly T. Lampton, John J.W. Lampton, and their wives of Cooper County, MO, all legal heirs of John Lampton, Jr. and Tabitha Lampton, Jr. deceased, appoint Ambrose C. Lampton their attorney to sell their interest in the dower of Tabitha, etc., etc."

This Deed is dated 1842.

U.S. Census Records for Clark County, KY: In 1800 lists John Lampton as Taxpayer. In 1810 John Lampton as Head of Household consisting of 1 male and 2 females under 10 years of age; 2 females 10-15 years of age; 1 male 26-45 years of age; 1 female 26-45 years of age. In 1820 John, Sr. and John, Jr. are listed but they are not listed for the year 1830, however, a John Lampton is listed in the 1830 and 1840 Censuses of Cooper County, Missouri.

It appears that most of the children of John Lampton (2) and Tabitha Taylor, when mature, married and moved into the newly organized State of Missouri. We have assembled fairly good biographical information concerning the three sons and their progeny but have little or nothing to offer concerning the daughters, their marriages, and progeny.

In a letter to Robert K. Lampton, the present writer, dated June 28, 1956, Ethel Leona Lampton, of Los Angeles, Calfornia, says:

"While the record does not show where anyone was born, my father's information was that his father, Beverly Taylor Lampton, and his Uncle Benjamin F. Lampton, crossed over from near Winchester KY into Missouri when Missouri opened up for settlement. They made their own brick kiln and built houses from the red clay there, or near there, not far from the present highway north of Kansas City, about 10 miles, near the present small town of Gashland. Their farms were about a mile apart. Benjamin F. Lampton was a member of the State Legislature. His children were Lou, Laura, Emma, and I believe, Logan. I knew Emma well, as she lived in Hollywood her last years. She remembered more Lampton history than anyone in our family. A descendent, at my last information, still lives on the land taken up by Benjamin."

In the Name of God Amen; I, Beverly T. Lampton of Platte County, Missouri, being of sound mind and disposing memory and in view of the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death do make and publish this my last Will and Testament.

First of all, I commend myself to God and may He have mercy on my soul.

Second, I give and bequeath to my second wife, Fannie Lampton, the sum of One Thousand Dollars, which I direct my executor to pay her from the first monies available from my personal estate, taking her receipt for the same, the said one thousand dollars is to be in full of all demands against any Estate of every description whatsoever, including any monies belonging to my said wife at our marriage, and which I may have used in the course of my business, and including any interest in the personalty the law might otherwise give her.

The balance of my property, both personal and mixed, after the payment of my debts and funeral expenses, I give and bequeath, share and share alike to my nine children, Mary J. Handley, B.L. Lampton, Eudalia T. Benjamin F., John H., James L., Lulie M., Camelia and Leona E. Lampton. It is my wish that my children should be kept together on the Home Farm (which I and my wife have this day conveyed to them) as fas as practicable, and I do not wish any of the property sold from the farm except as may be necessary. But if in the course of time it should be deemed advisable to break up from the Home place, then, the property of course I wish sold and monie equally distributed, taking into consideration, what may be due each.

My great anxiety is about my children, and my paramount object is to secure them a Home, and to keep them together, if possible.

In order that the provision of my Will may be carried out faithfully and well, I do hereby appoint Alexander M.I. Handley the Executor of the same, and beg that he may accept the trust.

My desire is that my children remain on the farm until the youngest becomes fifteen years of age, without any renting or division of the land whatever. Also, I desire that there be nothing sold off of the farm except whatever may be surplus. The first note due on O.D. Allen shall be divided between the four oldest children, taking into consideration what each one of them have received. If there be any surplus money on hand any year it must be put out at interest. As the younger children become of age they shall receive an equal proportion with those who are of age. Also my minor children shall receive a good common school education to be paid for out of the estate; otherwise its equivalent in money. A granddaughter of Beverly Taylor Lampton, Miss Leona Ethel Lampton, late of Los Angeles, CA, corresponded with us in the 1950s concerning the Lampton Family Genealogy and we should like to quote some paragraphs taken from some of her letters:

"My parents settle in Burbank in 1887, moving to Los Angeles in 1900. Burbank is Glendale's twin city. As my brothers grew and married they settled in the outlying towns mostly which accounts for the absence of listings in L.A. directories. Edgar lived at the edge of Glendale 30 years with the exception of a short period when he was located at Sacramento as head of the State Motor Vehicle Dept.; William F. was in business in Glendale in the 1920s; the city limits of Glendale run through Logan's property. He is in Jack's neighborhood (they have now found each other). Leon E. was in public office in Los Angeles about 50 years, the last 30 of which was as County Clerk. Usually any visiting Lamptons looked him up and he introduced the rest of us."

"I believe my grandfather came across the Plains with Frank W.'s great Uncle John. As my grandfather was also slightly successful in panning gold, he was not among those who 'borrowed money'. He got scurvy from so much buffalo meat and no vegetables, so went back by boat arond the Horn and up the Mississippi. The comparative good table fare cured him."

"Neither my father nor his brothers and sisters knew as much family history as probably would have been imparted to them had their father lived to a more ripe old age. They stayed together on the farm in accordance with the wishes of their father expressed in a will until most of them married. They kept in touch with their Uncle Benjamin's family, who lived nearby, also with their Aunts and their descendents."

PIONEERS REACH 50TH MILESTONE

Golden Wedding Celebration Planned By Couple Who Aided Valley Growth

Early days when Burbank was a little farming community will be recalled by old-time Glendale and Burbank residents with the announcement of plans for the golden wedding observance of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Lampton.

Mr. and Mrs. Lampton moved to Burbank in 1886, coming here from the middle west five years after their wedding. He built a home on a sixty-acre ranch and became one of the pioneer developers of the San Fernando Valley.

PLAN FOR ANNIVERSARY

The couple will celebrate their golden wedding May 1, with an anniversary party at their home, 4451 Lockwood, Los Angeles. Four generations will gather to do them honor; the family now including nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The sons are Edgar, Wilshire district manager for the Southern California Auto club; Fred, a salesman; Capt. Glen, an officer in the United States army air service; and Logan, a city employee. Miss Ethel Lampton, the daughter, is employed by the Los Angeles civil service department.

PIONEERS OF BURBANK

Mr. and Mrs. Lampton were married in 1881, in Grayson, MO. After living in that state for five years they moved west and settle in what is now Burbank.

The district was practically undeveloped a that time, and Lampton purchased and developed sixty acres in what is now the heart of the city. The old homestead, which he built near Tenth Street, still stands.

ACTIVE CHURCH WORKER

Mr. and Mrs. Lampton took a leading part in the life of Burbank during it's early years. He was a founder of the Christian church and both were active in society until they left the city twenty years ago. He is now 76 and she is 71 years old.

When the Lamptons settled on their ranch, only one school was in driving distance and that offered only the elementery grades. Sagebrush covered the slopes of the Verdugo Hills, and the San Fernando Valley was virgin territory.

The first 50 years are the happiest.

John H. Lampton and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Lampton, who are celebrating today 50 years of marital accord, insist this is so.

The celebration at their home, 4451 Lockwood Avenue, will be simple, due to the fact that Mr. Lampton is recovering from an illness of several weeks.

Socially prominent here among the city's first families, the couple recalled today that when they came here in 1886:

The Plaza was the center of town.

A cable car on Temple Street and the horse car on West Jefferson assumed the entire burden of cosmopolitan transportation.

When the first automobile was introduced in Los Angeles, Mr. Lockwood waited three weeks before he was able to glimpse the "horseless" carriage.

Fifty years ago in the little town of Grayson, Missouri, John H. Lampton, a struggling young farmer, took Miss Mary Elizabeth Trice to be his lawful wedded wife, "for better or for worse--for richer or poorer--in sickness and in health".

And last Friday evening, at a very simple reception at the Lampton home home on Lockwood Avenue, Mr. Lampton, but recently returned from a hospital following a major operation was sufficiently recovered to receive the congratulations of a few relatives and friends at a golden wedding celebration.

Having come to California almost fifty years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Lampton settled in the little town of Burbank, then a struggling farming community. They were among the pioneer developers of San Fernando Valley, taking active part in the civic life of the little community where Mr. Lampton organized the First Christian Church and sent his children to the one and only grammar school.

Owning a large ranch in those years of uncertain rains, afforded a precarious livelihood to a large and growing family, and Mr. Lampton likes to tell about the times when the farmers in San Fernando Valley were glad to haul dirt from the Hollywood hills to help pave San Fernando road and pay taxes.

The old family residence, somewhat scaling of paint, but sturdy of structure, is still standing and occupied, and is one of the earliest landmarks of the city of Burbank. About twenty years ago the family moved from Burbank to their present abode near Vermont Avenue.

There were four sons and one daughter to celebrate the golden wedding. They are: Edgar E., Wilshire district manager of the Automobile Club of Southern California; Fred W., a salesman; Logan B., city employee; Glenn T., Captain U.S. Air Service; and Miss Ethel Lampton, civil service employee. Leon E. Lampton, County Clerk, is a nephew.

There are nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

OBITUARY FOR JOHN HIRAM LAMPTON, Los Angeles Times, September 11, 1931:

"Funeral services for John H. Lampton, pioneer rancher of San Fernando Valley, who died Wednesday at the family residence, 4451 Lockwood Avenue, will be conducted at 3 p.m. tomorrow at W. M. Strother's funeral chapel, 6240 Hollywood Boulevard. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Lampton, who was 76 years of age, came to the Southland from Missouri in 1886 and settled on a large ranch which is now the center of Burbank. He helped to build the First Christian Church at Burbank. At the time of his death, he was a deacon in the First Christian Church of Hollywood. Mr. and Mrs. Lampton celebrated their golden wedding May 1, last.

Besides his widow, Mr. Lampton leaves his sons: Capt. Glenn T. Lampton of the United States Air Service stationed in Maryland, and Edgar, Logan, and Fred of Los Angeles; one daughter, Ethel Lampton; two sisters, Misses Ona and Lulu Lampton; and a nephew, Leon Lampton, Los Angeles County Clerk."

SUICIDE BY A HORRIBLE METHOD

Madill Man Saturates His Clothes With Oil and Applies Match

Madill – N. J. Lampton, an old and highly respected citizen of Madill, and one of the pioneers of southern Oklahoma, committed suicide in a most horrible manner. Lampton had been in ill health for several years, and it is thought was mentally unbalanced at the time he took his life.

Carefully guarding against accident, he hid several gallons of coal oil on a vacant lot near his residence. Repairing to the point where the oil was hidden, he thoroughly saturated his clothing, head and body with the inflammable fluid and set fire to himself.

Lee Jones, a neighbor, saw the flames and hearing the shrieks of agony of the suicide rushed to his assistance and extinguished the flames, but not until the unfortunate victim had been burned to a crisp. Lampton lived in great agony for seven hours before death relieved his sufferings.

Steve, I have just recently started posting to these message boards, so I hope you get this. John Marshall Clemens' father's name was Samuel Clemens and his mother was Pamela Goggins. Samuel moved his young family from Virginia to Tennessee. During a house raising, Samuel was killed in a logging accident. His widow, Pamela Goggin moved the family to live with her brother in Adair County, Ky. John and Jane Lampton's brother became friends, and that is how John and Jane met. After they married, John moved back to Tennessee where his family still had land. When things failed for him there he moved his family back to Kentucky, and then to Missouri. He and his family lived in several places in Missouri. If John Clemens was visiting anyone in Kentucky it was probably his mother. My grandmother had told me that we were related to Mark Twain, but she never said exactly how. It was just an understanding that he would have been a distant cousin on my grandfather Clemens side of the family.

I do have some more information on the Lampton's. I am descended from William McKinsey and his wife Nancy Susan Lampton. Nancy was the sister of Benjamin Lampton(Mark Twain's grandfather) Nancy and William were married in Clark County, Kentucky in 1796. One of my sources is a book called Sketch of the Lampton Family in America. It was written in 1914 by A.L. Keith. There are more updated Lampton books out there.

She was born in 1834 in Ralls Co., Missouri and married Drury Ragsdale on Aug. 12, 1852 in Monroe County Missouri. she died on November 29, 1886 in Greenfield, Dade Co., Missouri. I know her mother was Elizabeth Jane Nesbit who later married an Alvin Cartmill.
