I can tell you that my GG grandfataher Anders Johannesson was the owner of Lande or Landa farm on Halsnoy. My G Grandfather, Ole Anderson Lande came to the Story City area in 1870 and that many Lande's came to this area. There is a Story City web site which discusses the large number of Lande's that came to that area. I would suggest that most of them were coming from Halsnoy although I have not found any of that would have been my relative. You might try Roger Lande, who you will find on this site. His family came to Winnebago Cty , Iowa. They were from Halsnoy and lived on Landa Farm. The Story County story tells that "Lande clan emmigrated from Fjeldberg, Norway which is where Landa farm is andthat 34 of them came to Nevada, Ia in 1866. I do have alot of info on Landa farm but do not think I can give you any answer on your inquiry.

I am doing some genealogy research for a friend of mine. Her grandfather was John Herman Lande born 7 October 1896 in Northwood, Worth County, Iowa. He eventually settled in Minneapolis where he died on 31 Aug 1946. He is buried in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. He was an attorney but apparently made his living primarily in sales. Unfortunately that is about all I know.
I was wondering if any of this might ring a bell with any one or if you could suggest where I might look for further information on this man’s parents and ancestors.
Thank you for any assistance.
John Dolan-Heitlinger

Lande/Halsnoy

My grandfather emigrated to Winnebago County Iowa in about 1990. I have visited Halsnoy and met some people who knew of the family or were distantly related. My grandfather's brother came here later. Their first cousins the Toftes moved to the north shore of Lake
Superior and established the small community of Tofte, MN

Lande surname

My grandmother was Anne K. Lande. Her father was Kjettel Lande. She was born in Grendi, Setesdal, Norway on November 3, 1872. She had sisters, and a brother, Gust. Her father remarried and raised several half-brothers and sisters. Anne married Gust Thompson in Polk County, Minn. on March 1, 1894. They immigrated to Canada in 1905. She had 7 sons - Oscar, Carl, Gunder, Simon, Elmer, Eddie and Georg, as well as 3 daughters - Gertie, Olga, and Belphine. She died on May 6, 1967 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. I know there are other relatives in Norway still and am trying to contact them. I have been in touch with Bakke's from Grendi. They are Kjettel Lande's second wife's family. I do not know anything about my grandmother and would like to find something on her.
