Cheryl,
I`m interested in what you might have on the Allen McGregor family in Livingston co., NY. My husband`s mother was raised by Edward McGregor. Edward was the son of Charles & ?Josephine McGregor. The only Charles I can find in NY who was born abt. 1848 (as given on the 1900 census) is Charles, s/o Allen & Mary McGregor in Livingston co. My husband`s aunt who is the daughter of Edward & Luella Parker McGregor is interested in her father`s ancestry.
Pat R.

My line comes from Elsey Landing. I am not sure if this is his real name. He had other children, but I only know of 3 names. The family story goes when he settled in the southeastern part of Ga. His wife wouldn't come so she sent his oldest 3 children and she kept the other children with her. I don't know her name or how many other children they had. I live in Dodge County Ga. Which is in the mid state area. I have found my Landing's spelled Landing, Landen, Landin, and even London, along with other variation's. I would really appreciate any info you might have. I have not been able to find out all of Elsey's children's names. Thank you in advance, Susie Allen..sduggar@yahoo.com

Also, if you would, please tell me where you are geographically. I might know of someone else you can contact, depending on what specific family you seek.

Valerie

I don't have much :-( Allen and Mary were apparently dropped off by space aliens in 1840 and picked up just after 1860 :-) Durring their time here - they had a hard time settling down but did at least stay in Livingston County. Depending on which document you read, Allen was born in either Scotland or New York and Mary Ann was born in Ireland, NY or NJ.

Their children were:
Isaac b abt 1840
Margaret b abt 1841 married Nelson Swarts 13 Mar 1865 - Groveland NY
Melissa (sp?) b abt 1844
Charles Henry b 4 Mar 1846 d 12 Apr 1911 m Josephine Handsome 15 Oct 1876 - Batavia NY
George E b 22 Feb 1848 d 23 July 1915 m Louisa Squyess (sp?) Batavia
Jothan (sp?) b abt 1852 m Annie betw 1865 - 1870
Venora (sp?) Jane b abt 1852
Allennia (sp?) b abt 1855
L. James b abt 1856
H M b abt 1858

Charles and George fought in the Civil War. Both were with the NY Volunteers - 21st Regiment of Cavalry aka Griswold Light Cavalry.

Louella Honora Parker was married to James Hilliker prior to marrying Edward McGregor. James died in 1918. They had two daughters - Catherine and Luella M. Louella married Edward 4 Apr 1919 and they had 5 children.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have questions.

I think we may have a connection, my husbands grandfather was Cary Charles Landing, his father was Charles Landen (somewhere along the way the name was changed) Cary lived in Scotland Neck, Halifax County, NC. Charles married first Lucy Mae Etheridge, second Maud A Bryant. Charles father was Lemuel Landing. My husbands line comes down through the first marriage to Lucy.
Cary and his wife Nellie Ray Edwards lived for a while in Rocky Mount.
Let me know what you think
Linda Anderson

Hello, First time I have checked this Landen Family tree. The Landens in the RockY Mount Pineview cemetery are my family. The stone is from my mother's side, Williams. Sherrod, Sr. was my father, Sherrod (Jim) was my brother, Mildred Louise, my mother and Mildred landen Baker my sister. My father was born and raised in Whitakers, NC. His mother's name was Maude Bryant Landen. His entire family has died. He had many sisters and two brothers, all raised on the family farm in Whitakers, NC. His father's name was Charles Landen and I have a living brother in New Bern named after him. I am the youngest child, 57yrs old, Charles is 62yrs old. I have 4 Landen counsins still living in Rocky Mount. Their father was Allie Charles Landen. There is one son, tommy from him, the other 3 are girls. If you would like more information just let me know. My father always told me his family came for Scotland and most of his sisters were light red-headed and so was his mother. Margaret

Edgecombe Landens

Happy Birthday Penny! My husband's father, parents, and siblings are buried in Pine View Cemetery in Rocky Mount, N.C. There were no males that lived to grow up that had sons. That means that the Landen name through his Grandfather, Thomas Hugh Landen has been lost. The only Landens are my husband and his two brothers through this line. I know that Thomas Hugh Landen had some siblings, but I do not know how many or any of their names. If I find any leads I will let you know. Please do the same. I did find a buriel plot in Pineview with the following Landens listed. "Jim" Sherrod Newsome Landen, Jr. (July 18, 1831-May 11, 1987), Mildred Landen Baker (May 7, 1941-Sept. 10, 1986), Mildred Williams Landen(March 19, 1910-Jan. 20, 1962), and Sherrod Newsome Landen (Oct. 31, 1900-Dec. 31, 1965). In a different plot I found Walter E. Landen (Sept. 6, 1945-Sept. 8, 1945) and Edward Walton Landen (May 2, 1918-August 2, 1979). The monument in this plot is marked Landen/Stallings. Maybe you are connected to some of these. Keep me informed.

His father William Thomas Landen is also buried in Pineview in a different plot. His grandfather Thomas Hugh Landen was born around Elm City I believe. We were told that his father's name was originally Layfayette Vanlandingham. I have found no information to confirm this. His mother's name was Martha Annie Francis Thomas. We were told he had several siblings but we know nothing about them. Red hair also ran in my husbands family.

Penny, in Genealogy.com under the surname listing "Landing" I replied to L.Landen with some census information. There is a Josephus in my family line, but whether he is related to your branch of the family, I don't really know. I have found my best source of information to be census records, but yes, I have had to hunt and peck. I hope this may be helpful, but also death certificate records and marriage certificate records, if you can get them are very helpful. Also, I would not necessarily limit my search to just Edgecomb. Try some of the surrounding counties as well. Hope this provides some help. Sheri.
