The lucy Landers that you have listed b. 1784- Do you know who she was married to? If it is to Jonas Priest i have seen her name as Saunders or Sanders listed in my findings. If this is who it is? There son William Powell Priest on his marriage lic. his name is listed William Powell Sander and can not make out the last letters and then Priest. He was born in Ky and in the 1850 cenus he is listed under Jonas and Lucy living in Morgan In. He later came to Sigourney Iowa where he lived and married Ruth Ellen Good in 1852. We spent some time doing the Priest side of the family. If this is the Jonas priest and Lucy most of there children lived in and around Sigourney iowa. I hope you can help me out?
Thanks,
Judy Wilson
email jude1940@mchsi.com

Hi Margaret,

Every reference I have seen to Thomas' second wife has always named Mary or Molly Lake. She's listed in the DAR Lineage book as well. The only thing I haven't been able to locate is a marriage date other than around 1757.

Jerry

Jerry, Don't remember where I found it on the web (it might have been on your site), but Thomas Landers names his wife Mary in his will, "The will of Thomas Landers, "of Lenox... yeoman," dated 24 Jan. 1798, gives to his true and beloved wife Mary the use and improvement [of his property] while his widow." While this doesn't prove this Mary as being Mary Lake, it does help us with our research. What do you think. Margaret

Hi Jerry, Thanks for your response. I have a great deal of information on the Landers from the beginning - my line goes into south central NY. My problem is finding actual documentation of the birth of Mary Lake. I suspect she was born in the New Milford/Kent area - everything else I read says she was born in Rochester MA. I tried to trace a Mayflower line through her and was stopped short by them, as the line of William White traces to James Lake in Rochester, but there is no record of a Mary being born to them. Others have joined the Society by way of the Crappo family through the James Lake marriage. I don't want it now for that - I just want some proof of where she is born. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks. Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,

I'm descended from Thomas through his son, Ebenezer. I have not seen proof of his marriage anywhere. I've been in contact with J. Kelsey Jones, and he was kind enough to send me a copy of his research. No proof there, either, but the same facts. My sister was able to join the DAR using Ebernezer's credentials, and two of his brothers, Joseph and Asahel, also served in the Revolution. His two youngest brothers, Isaiah and John, were too young to serve, and James died in 1777.

All this and more is on my website, www.landersgen.com, and you can contact me there if needed.

Hope this helps,
Jerry Landers

Landers - The Normans invaded Ireland from France. There are quite a lot of names in Ireland from this time. Landers is one of them. The Irish for Landers is de Londra. The Irish for Fitzgerald is Mac Gerailt. Fitz is the 'son of' or fils (in french) and Mac is 'son of' in Irish. De in a French name usually denotes nobility i.e. possibly a lord. I did find a castle in Wales with this de Londra / de Londras / de Londres name. Unfortunately I cannot find that information now. De Londres also means 'of London' in french. I hope this helps someone. Cath

Landers/Landreth confusion

I'm looking for information on my 2nd great grandma, Sarah {Sally?} Landers who married Charles Doney in Holt Co MO in 1848.

The confusion comes when some say her maiden name was Landreth. I have copies of some of her children's death cert and wouldn't you know out of 5 cert 3 have her maiden name as Landers and two as Landreth. Her daughter, in a reminiscence, says her mother was Sarah Elizabeth Landers but it also said she had a sister Delilah that I can't find and some other errors.

Does any one out there have this Sarah Elizabeth Landers in their database? thanks, Lorelee

His line starts in MA in the 1600's and then they went to New York where my grandfather was born. He was stationed at Ft. Lee VA & met & married my grandmother during WW1.
Just getting caught up on emails which required some thought! Good thing I looked today - I am going to the CT State Library in Hartford tomorrow - and - the week of Aug 16 I will be going around New England and New York doing genealogy with a friend from Minnesota. She also had issues in Sharon, Kent, etc., CT, so we will be researching original records there as well as in Warren CT. I had no information about Charlotte Patterson but see you got an answer from Margaret. Hope that is what you are looking for. I have to dig through my pile now to find Thomas and Mary!

Dorothy, Thank you for your response to my Landers posting. Please look at the response to me from Wmgerdel dated May 23, 2009. I have replied to Wmgerdel and requested the source of his proof that Ebenezer and Content Dexter Landers were the parents of Samuel Landers the husband of Sarah Fuller.
Our home had major damage from Hurricane Katrina, and we are just now unpacking. Most of our genealogy was under water and some of it is now unreadable. I haven't done any genealogy since 2005. However, I may be able to find some old information regarding Ebenezer and Content. I am quite certain the information I had did not list Samuel as one of his children. However, I am going to try to see if I can find any thing about this lead.
Hi Joyce, We are in the same family. Thomas was born in Rochester MA in 1727 - you can write the Town Clerk there to get a record of his birth. Sometime soon I will be going to Warren CT where Thomas and May Lake married to hunt for a marriage record. I have been in contact with the church there where the Landers family attended and will also go to the Clerk's office. He died in Lenox MA in 1811 and is buried in the First Congegational Church Cemetery - I have a picture of his grave. Don't think he is in the vitals of Lenox, but it may be registered in the church records. A female Landers married into my Hyde line in Afton NY - Thomas goes way back through Ella, Marcellus, Philander, Isaiah. Then three more generations back to the original Thomas in Sandwich MA. Tell me something about your line through John - I didn't have him in the Rev. War.
Evelyn

Let's do the email thing. I live in RI and travel back and forth to Troy NY, which takes me through Lenox, and a short detour takes me to Kent and Warren CT. I need to retake that picture of the graves in Lenox - it is over 30 years old and has lost a lot of clarity. I don't know anything about the Landers going to Illinois and back to NY. What I know of John is that by 1798 he is in Jericho (Afton) NY where several of the brothers went, including my Isaiah. My line has always been Protestant, although it was not uncommon to change faiths for the sake of the spouse. I'd be interested to see what your other contact provided you. I have done tons of research on male and female lines but have never posted it on the Internet. I always say I will do it when the research is complete, and that never happens!

Hi Margaret, Yes, that is him - didn't serve for very long, but at least it is documented. I will be stopping in Lenox within a few weeks when I go to Troy NY - will also hit Sharon/Warren CT. Have found out that the pastor in the Congregational Church in Warren is a friend from a Presbyterian Church in Warwick RI - he conducted my mother's memorial service in 1995! I need to retake pictures, look at records, etc., and am glad it is within my "local" travel vicinity. Need anything?
Evelyn

Hi Evelyn,
A few years ago I made a contact with someone who had researched our Landers family for many years. She sent me a copy of everything she had & I have some info on the names you mentioned. I would be glad to share with you if you are interested. My G. Grandfather William was born in Illinois in 1858?. Do you know why some of the Landers moved to Illinois & then back to N.Y.? Is it possible for you to scan the picture of Thomas Landers's grave into the computer & send me? Do you live in NY? I live in VA so it is almost impossible for me to get pictures or copies of births and deaths or marriages.
I can send you my e-mail address.
Thanks,
Joyce

Hi,
I don't think John was in the war but Thomas his father was I think. Thomas & Mary Lake Landers had many children, John is my line. He is the father of Eben who married Priscilla and their son Philo Landers married Diana Canfield. Their son William married Mary Bradley & they had my grandfather Philo F. Landers. Grandpa grew up in Whitney Point NY & his family was Catholic, not sure when the Landers became Catholics. Do you know? Do you know if anyone has joined the DAR through my line of William, Philo, Eben, John to Thomas?
Thanks,
Joyce

Hi Evelyn,
I would appreciate anything you have on my line. My contact from a few years ago had some information on people in your line. Isaiah married Thyzar Andrews. He was born 3-23-1769 in Stockbridge MA. He died 8-31-1844 in Afton N.Y. Children were: Asahel, Jehiel, Philo, Philander & Isaiah. Philander is the son of Isaiah & was born in 1795 in Chenango NY and died 9-28 1865 in Chenango NY. He married Polly Farnsworth. There is a page of gravestones of Landers buried in East Side Cemetery. I think some may be your line, not sure. It is www.landersgen.com/eastside/htm & it is titled Gravestones in East Side Cemetery, Afton NY. I also found something that said our Thomas Landers fought in the French & Indian War. Hope some of this helps you. If you have any other Landers that you want to check on let me know & I will see if she sent me anything on them.
Thanks,
Joyce

Hi,
I am researching this line also. I am in the DAR under another part of my family but would like to prove Thomas as a supplemental. I have that Mary Lake was born on April; 19, 1738 & died Sept. 13, 1822. I have she married in 1757 in East Greenwich, Fairfield Connecticut. Thomas's son, John is my line, Eben, Philo & William. If you have copies of any births, deaths or marriages of these I would appreciate any help. As you know for DAR you have to have copies for proof.
Thanks,
Joyce

landers could be french origin. my mother was a landers. I've found that the name changed after a time. I got back to launders in the 16th century. they may have come over with william the conqueror. Landers was a name given to well off people in the dark ages to land owners hence 'Landers'. My landers were in england but i'm sure they are in ireland'

good luck in your search
lorraine

Landers Ky, IN

I am looking for anyone that might have another Landers that LOOKS like my gg-grandfather. Help is needed. I can't seem to place him with any of the Landers families in Ky.
Marion was a ship's carpenter, therefore, he either learned the trade of carpentery from his father or was an apprentice to someone. Where/what part of Ky, he comes from I don't know.
I do know: He was born Feb 1829 in Ky - married in Campbell co. Ky to Catherine Collins and moved to Madison, Jefferson co. IN, at all times he is listed as a carpenter/planker.
His sons are also carpenters. I believe that there maybe a tie in with the Green/Taylor cos. Ky group, somehow. His sons, William & Frank both married girls from there and so did one of the son's (grandson of Marion). Funny thing is, they lived in Kenton co. Ky at the time of the grandson's marriage. They are tied in with the Stubbs & Perkins lines.
Census records for Marion vary, but most of the time parents are born: Father: KY/Mother: VA.
I have found no other Landers (various spellings) in Campbell co. Ky in 1850.
Thanks, Wendy
This is not my direct line and I cannot assure the validity of this information; however, below is what I fouond on another Landers site:
Thomas had three sons, soldiers in the Revolutionary War, and, himself enlisted to repel Burgoyne’s Invasion, as a private in Capt. Ezra Whittelsey’s Co., Col. Brown’s regt. of Berkshire County militia, and served from Sept. 7th to Sept. 26, 1777, in the Northern Department, being at the time 50 years old.

He continued his patriotic efforts by being one of a party, who in 1783, broke into the premises of two tories, for which act he was brought before the Court of General Sessions.
