"L. G. Landing died at his home in Sullivan Monday, November 1, 1915, at the age of 74 years, 9 months, 1 day. He had been in feeble health all summer and about three weeks ago began to fail rapidly. All of his six living chidlren were her during his last few days except Joe, who lives in Denver. Besides these six children, he is survived by his wife and a brother, Joseph Landing, living on a farm three miles north west of Sullivan. Mr. Landing was a man of the noble impulses, kindly and generous to all and will be greatly missed from the community.
The funeral services were conducted at Buffalo Cemetery Tuesday afternoon by the GAA. R.'s their beautiful ritual being used. A fine tribute was paid the deceased by Major E. C. Baugher, Commander of Wm. McKinley Post, and prayer was offered by Mrs. Baugher."
TRIBUTE BY MAJOR BAUGHER. " L. G. Landing was born in Rehoboth, Summerset County, Maryland, Jan. 31, 1841. He enlisted in the Federal army in Nov. 1861 as a private in Co. K. 1st Md. Volunteers. Re-enlisted in Co. B. 3rd Md. Cavalry. He was discharged at New Orleans, Sept. 30, 1864 as Corporal for disability. He became a charter member of the Geo. V. Pitts Post, changed to Wm. McKinley Post, G.A.R. Dept. of Mo. He served as Commander of the Post, Vice Commander, Adjutant and Chaplain. He served in the war with Gen. Lockwood on the Eastern shore of Virgina; also in Banks' expedition on Red River, Louisiana.
After the war, deceased settled in Missouri. In 1882, he was married to Eliza Gideon. Ten children were born to this Union. He leaves a wife, four girls and two boys. Joseph and Benjamin followed in the footsteps of their father, serving four years in the U.S. Navy, and received honorable discharges."
