My great aunt was married to a John Lando in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He was from Sicily and ran a shoe shop. They didn't have any children, but adopted a boy--that's what I found somewhere. John's wife was the daughter of Phillip Ruble of Scott county Missouri.

His name was Joseph F. Lando, and his son was Joseph F. Lando, Jr. He was born in 1903 and died in 1976. His first wife's name was Mary, and she died in 1958. I don't believe that Christina is his daughter, as she isn't listed in his obituary, but in my birthmother's obituary a daughter is listed with the name Christina Asbury Lando. Maybe she just took the Lando name after birthmom married Joseph Lando. I really would like to find Christina!

I am trying to find Christina Asbury Lando who is most likely my mom's daughter and not Joseph's but my mom died in 1991 and I just learned about Christina.

Louis, Salvator, Anthony and my father Dominic were all sons of Rose Lando who after her husband Anthony's death remarried Michael Anzalone a widower who had a son Pat, two daughters Mary & Pauline. They had two more sons Peter and John. All the siblings have passed away except Louis Lando and John Anzalone who both live in Fla. There are Lando & Anzalone cousins all over.

That family certainly sounds like a possible relative. My Morris, b. 1854, also had a daughter named Hannah. I will check that census again. Since I can't find any other information on my family, I might be successful if I research other families that are possibilities. I have learned that there was a Morris Lando living in Baltimore when my Morris lived there. That's where my Hannah was born. I have intended to research that Morris. Maybe it's the one from Stockton! Who knows???

Mimi

Mimi,
Thanks for the information. We have many English Census's for Lando/Landi/Landau I am wondering if this one could be related to your Morris as one of the children is named Morris.
On the 1881 Stockton Durham Census there is a Morris aged 3 grandson living with a Joseph Lando 58 born in Poland and wife Sarah also from Poland, daughter in law Hannah is also living with them.
Do you know if your Morris came to England with any brothers?

Regards

Maggie
I really don't know much about my Lando family. In researching the name Lando, I found that it originated in Naples, Italy in the 1300's. During the Inquisition, I know that the Jews in the southern countries of Europe dispersed themselves throughout the northern countries. Mine lived in Poland before going to the UK in the mid-1870s, but I don't know where they came from in Poland. I also don't know of any siblings of my great grandfather, though I believe he might have had relatives in Baltimore, Maryland, but that is speculation.

Mimi
My ancestor John Lando came from Genoa Italy in 1850 as shown on each Scottish Census’s and also our family stories that he was Italian. On each Scottish Census he comes from Italy and he was a British Subject but we cannot find any record of this on the National Records.
We have also been told that there may have been 3 brothers who came to England and one went north to Scotland, are these your relations.
I have looked a many English records but most appear to come from Russia and Poland. I did see a Morris Lando born 1878 at Stockton North Yorks is he yours?

Do you know how your ancestors got to England ie which Port did they leave from.
They had 4 children in Mile End/Whitechapel (London), came to the US in 1886, settled in Chicago, and had 4 more children.
