Shannon - The Landtroops that I have are all from northern AL. It seems that my grandmother's mother was Mary C. Urban. Her father was Cassinder (Capander) Urban and her mother was Susannah Landtroop. He was born in AL about 1834 and she was born in AL about 1838. Her father was Houston Landtroop according to my aunt who told me this history about 10 years ago in a letter. I hope we can tie this in to something else. Have a good Christmas!

Landtroop, Frunk and Bower from East Texas

My great grandmother was Mary Ann Landtroop (born Abt. 1856 in Texas). She was the daughter of Stith Jackson Landtroop (born Abt. 1829 in Limestone County, Alabama) and Eliza J Frunk (born Abt. 1836 in Alabama). She married Sam Bower(born Nov 1850 in Texas) about 1878. I don’t have any information on Sam’s parents. These families lived in, and around, Titus and Red River counties located in Northeastern Texas. I would like any information on them. Photos would also be appreciated. I have a picture of Sam and Mary Ann Bower, with children, that was taken about 1883. I’d be happy to share it with anyone interested.

Charlene Wyant
rebelcharliej@yahoo.com

nancy rebecca ellis/john landtroop

Rebecca and John would be my ggg grandparents. I have then in Alabama. I have two conflicting sources for John's middle name. One source has Dand and the other Dawson.I have an 1880 census Lauderdale Co. AL with John and Nancy having 3 daughters (Martha, M?, and Susan) and 2 sons (Thomas and Luther). John's sister (Fran Landtroop) is also living with them. Susan Landtroop (known as Lue) married (20 feb 1898 cumby tx) Charles "Charley" Butler (so Gabriel Butler Jr and Charlotte Best of Lauderdale Co AL--Center Star area). They had two daughters. Vesta Stivis Butler b 15 nov 1898 in Cumby, Hopkins Co., TX and Gladys Butler (Gladys married a man with the last name Armstrong. They had one daughter Sue who never married. Gladys lived in Amarillo, TX). Vesta (my great grandmother) married Edward Millwee Bice (b 11 nov 1890 so William Henry Bice and Mary Jane Henderson). Vesta and Ed had 4 children together Mary Pauline, Jacob Eudorus, Jack Loren, and Donald Gene. Mary Pauline was born in Soper OK. ( It is between Hugo and Durant. It is a very small town. The cemetary is right off the highway. Lue and Charley are buried there. Both Charley and Lue died in Amarillo. Nancy Rebecca Ellis died in Frederick OK while visiting one of her sons. She is buried in Soper.) Mary Pauline (b 3 dec 1917) married Andrew Jackson Woods (so unknown Wood and Lucy Adeline Bowling). They had three children: a son who did not live past a few days, Reggie Dewayne Woods , and Jacqueline Sue Woods (b 5 aug 1942 in Ardmore OK). Jacqueline married Gene Paul King (so Theodore Roosevelt King and Delma Ann Parrish). They have two children: Sandra Ann King (b 30 sept 1967) and me Kathryn Sue King (b 11 aug 1970). I married Michael Wallin but we are separated. I have a son Samuel Avraham King (b 4 jan 2001). Vesta Bice died 7 Mar 1995. She is buried in Fort Worth, TX.

Martha LANDTROOP / James BROWN

I'm looking for information on either of the above, James and Martha were married at Tuscumbia, Alabama, on 5 Apr 1855. The family is found in the 1860 census of Limestone Co., Alabama; and in the 1870 census of Davidson Co., Tennessee. Martha and family is found in the 1880 census of Davidson Co., James having died in 1875.

James has the doubtful distinction of having been captured by U S Grant as a Confederate soldier at Ft. Donelson in Feb. 1862, and as a Union soldier at Harper's ferry in September of 1862.

I went to visit my aunt this weekend, unfortunately they didn't have any information on the individuals you were both looking for. My cousin(second cousin) seems to be into research pretty heavily. I showed him the names,so he may turn up something else on the Landtroops. He did say that most of them originally came from North Carolina. Some of them left Alabama to avoid Tuberculosis. That's really about all I found out, wish I had more to offer.
Shannon
