Hi Deborah, my name is Jessica Hildebrant and I am searching my family tree as well. Dora and James Parker are my GGGrandparents. Any information you could help me with on the Parkers or Alvertine would be wonderful. I have hired a researcher as well and we could compare notes to see if we are both up to speed on our info. You can email me at jnear9089@msn.com. We are from Iowa so not too far away from where you live. Hope to speak with you soon.

Addison & Sally were my GGGrandparents. Their son Addison Earldom was my GGrandfather. His wife's name was Mary Jane (Eppright) but she went by Jennie. She called him 'Ully,' which is most likely 'Early' with a Southern drawl. Jennie Lane Park in Manor, Texas is named for her. A. E. gave the land for the park.

Their children who survived to adulthood were Pauline (known as 'Pinky'), Frances Rust, David, Mary Ann (known as 'Mal' or 'Marie'--my grandmother) Walls Earldom, Gertrude (known as 'Trudie'), & John Wright. Frances, Mary Ann, Walls, Gertrude, & John all have surviving descendants. If you'd like to correspond with your distant cousins contact me at c.f.eckhardt@sbcglobal.net

I can certainly help you. My GGGGrandfather was his brother.

In fact, there were 4 Lane brothers that lived in Lebanon, Indiana at that time. They also had at least one sister that moved to Boone County. The family's history is very well documented in the area. Addison's brother, Levi Lane, was the clerk for over 40 years.

I have not found helpful any of the non-surname matching DNA. For example, if the submitter isn't a Lane, and your Y-DNA is, it probably means you connect before the use of surnames, which is genealogically impossible or nearly so to connect. I've fixed the User Preferences to only show same surname matches in the user accounts I have control over. Cuts down on a lot of insignificant matches and the accompanying email notifications from FTDNA.

Has anyone found non-surname matches helpful?

In the meantime, Koko, I'm happy to correspond with you or anyone by email on genealogical matches. They were married and living with Dutch's mother Bridget Gilligan (nee Heffernan).

Lois remarried and Marilyn is believed to have taken her stepfathers name.
Re: James Gregg Lane

My name is Geoffrey Lane. I live in Mackay, Queensland, Australia. I am the Grandson of James Gregg Lane. I have obtained information from the 1881 Census in Leominster, Herefordshire, England. James Gregg Lane was 12, John Lane (his Father) was 43, Sarah (his mother) was 49 and Sophie (his sister) was 10. Their address was 18 West st, Leominster. John Lane was a Corn Dealer, which I believe was an important profession in those days. Corm Dealers controlled all grain in and out of the UK.

From discussions with ML Newton , I have been able to establish that the Lane family emigated from the the UK to the USA at the end of the 1800's. At around 1900 James Gregg Lane married Agnes Haycock (Mary said Hitchcock) and had 3 children, Thomas, Alice & Owen. Mary said James left his family.

I believe at some stage he returned to England, where he met and married my grandmother Maud Mary Hill in 1908 at Plymouth, Devon, England. They had two children, Doris Maud and Edward. Somewhere between 1908 & 1913 they emigated to Australia. They had another 2 children, Bessie and John (my Father). He left my Grandmother and family between my Father's birth in 1914 and the trajic death of my Grandmother in 1923 (she drowned in the Mary River in Queensland). I do not know where he went from there. Mary stated that she thought he may have gone to South America.

Looking for more information.

Regards,

Geoff Lane
Yes, but your results can not be posted on http://www.familytreedna.com/public/lane/default.aspx?sectio..., nor will their computer compare your markers. However, ancestry.com has a good comparison chart,
although comparison members is still very small.
To bring together those tested by various companies who all differ a bit, ftdna developed www.ysearch.org - a free site open to most DNA tested persons.

Cheers from #84024 on yresults chart.

Not all markers are equal in value and some are fast mutating. FTDNA's 37-marker test could also be called a “41-marker test” as they test and report markers 464e, 464f, 464g, and DYS19b. Though tested, it is very rare that individuals have results for these markers. Therefore, by FTDNA's conservative counting method, their competitor's “33-marker test” is actually a “29-marker test.” Did you have 18/18 match?

Alas, you've got me...now you are getting into more confusing math, which is why I love FTDNA and their wonderful formula that does the job for me with their "TIP"
"The FTDNATiP™ results are based on the mutation rate study presented during the 1st International Conference on Genetic Genealogy, on Oct. 30, 2004. The (given) probabilities take into consideration the mutation rates for each individual marker being compared. Since each marker has a different mutation rate, identical Genetic Distances will not necessarily yield the same probabilities. In other words, even though #84024 has a Genetic Distance‡ of 3 from (the other)LANE, someone else with the same Genetic Distance may have different probabilities, because the distance of 3 was prompted by mutations in different markers, with different mutation rates." (copied from My FTDNA - Tip Report)
Fun report: my LANE shares the same Y chromosome as the 5th-century warlord known as "Niall of the Nine Hostages"

On FTDNA.. I first took the first 12 markers (of which I had 11 as I'm not sure what figure I have for '19'). So out of 12 markers I had 11 figures and those Lanes in group 8 had 10 of them matching. All of them had the figure 14 for DYS19. And where I had 30 for 389_2, they had 29

On ysearch... when I ask the website to do a genetic match, my result is 29 and the closest to me is 19, then 13, 12, handful of 11s and so on.
