Hi everyone, I am trying to track down ancestral information about Edelbert (Albert) Lang. He was born about 1866 and we think in Germany not sure where exactly. He came to Australia in about 1890 possibly from England and I have been told he anglicized his name to Albert on the ship (Although death & marriage certificate have him listed as Edelbert). His father is Philip Lang (not sure if Philip was originally one "L" or two) and his mother is Maria E possibly anglicized to Mary. Philip Lang was born in Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany and some reports suggest he could have been late 30's or 40's when Edelbert was born although this has not been corroborated with anything. If anyone could suggest anywhere to find information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Tanya - tanyahill1973@yahoo.com.au

Carl Herman Lang, FIRST Harley-Davidson dealer, Chicago

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has access to the Chicago newspaper obituary or other information about Carl Herman Lang of Chicago c1866-1944.

Mr. Lang was the world's first Harley-Davidson dealer and therefore a historical figure of some importance. He died on 9 September 1944 at age 78. Earlier (before 1905) he was a manufacturer of piano tuning tools in Chicago, took up selling Harley-Davidson motorcycles in 1905, and later that was his full-time business which was located in downtown Chicago. He sold the motorcycle business in 1926 and retired, with retirement homes in both Michigan and Florida. An old legend says that when he retired he took a very old motorcycle with him, one that Harley-Davidson wanted back and never got. Today we think that might have been the very first Harley-Davidson ever made!

Any information that anyone has run across and could share about Carl Herman Lang would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Herbert Wagner
herbswoods@yahoo.com
Lang/ LAing photos from 1925

I have photos of Robert and "Auntie" Laing or Lang when they were visiting in PA from Rosebud Texas taken in 1925. I do not know Auntie's first name but I know she had a sister Bertha Seckinger Wille that she was visiting. I understand that they spoke almost entirely in German. Would like help in making the connections as Bertha came from Germany in 1881.

HI, i was wondering if anybody could help me. I am looking for Oscar Lang, who married my great great aunt Grace Russell. I have a good bit of info on them except to who his parents where. In the census info that I got it says that Oscar was born in Ohio. Uncle Oscar and Aunt Grace, lived in Rosemont, Harrison County, West Virginia. I believe his mothers name might have been Cora Lang, but I am not sure.

Thanks in advance,
Maureen

Rescued Photos, LANG & TODD Surnames, Monroe, MI

As a hobby, I rescue old photos that have identification on them. I have one of a boy, identified as James Floyd Lang, and it state his birthday was Sept. 17, 1884. The photographer was in Monroe, MI.

Normally this is where I say, Contact me if you'd like to obtain this photo. (And you can). But I realized that I hold another photo, from an area close to where this young boy was raised. It's a photo card from a young suiter, named Nathan, and sent as a Christmas greeting to a young lady named Callie Todd, of New Boston, MI. (Wayne Co.)

In trying to determine if James was a Lang-there was a question on the hand writing, I did a search on another genealogy site. I located a WWI draft registration for a James Floyd LANG with the same birthday, living in Monroe.
Where I'm going with this is, his wife, is listed as Callie TODD LANG. Now I'd like to know if anyone out there knows of this couple and if they might know who her previous beau, Nathan was.

I'd like to get these photos into the hands of family. If you'd like to obtain it, please contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com for details.

Kathy

Lang - Thornbury, Milton Damerel, Shebbear, Devon
Lang - Milton Damerel, Devon 1780's-1850's. Married into Stevens family.
Posted by Phil on 5/4/2008, 9:49 am

Ann Lang b c1772 married John Stevens b c1767 on 28 July 1799 at Milton Damerel, Devon. They had 7 children Elizabeth b 1800, William b 1803,Elizabeth b 1808,Mary (sic)b 1810, Arthur b 1813, Maria b 1817 and William b 1820 Milton Damerel.
John Stevens was an agricultural labourer for Arthur Lang (- Ann's Brother) on a property known as "Little Island Farm". Also called 'Ireland, Hireland or Hareland' at different times. John and Ann's gravestone is at a Thornbury Church - St Peters Anglican Church I think. John Stevens died 30 May 1847 and Ann Lang died 13 March 1849.
I am trying to find out more about the Lang family to add more details to Ann's Story. I am thinking that if Arthur was a land owner their might be some records of his family and ancestors. The rudimentry researching I have managed over the net does not seem to be giving me much result.
As I'm in Australia I don't always know which parish a village or county belongs too. And I have trouble working out what is classified as Devon and what is Cornwall. (The road maps don't show the Cornwall/Devon boundry.) I visited Devon in about 2001 and found what might remain of "Little Ireland" and gravestones etc.

I don't know where the Langs are from. Would Church Records, or the Marriage or death Certificate for Ann Lang show any parent info? I would be happy for any Lang info or anything about where they lived. I haven't found any Ann with brother Arthur Lang. I hope I have given enough info for anyone to give me some tips of what to try next. Thankyou - Phil.

Post a Response

Re: Lang - Milton Damerel, Devon 1780's-1850's. Also by clicking on 'Devon' at the top of any parish page, you can access information for other counties etc across the UK.

The DevonFHS homepage also has lots more useful information and links.

I'm looking for information for my 2 GR grandmother, Maria Eliza LANG, said to have been born and/or christened 19 Sep 1808, in New Hampshire. She married about 1824 to William Coggins, possibly in Lubec, Washington Co., Maine. They had 10 children.

I have a picture of her, taken by "J. M. Peck's Photograph Rooms, Ellsworth, Maine." On the back is a date, but hard to read all of it-- __55, maybe Nov. 1855? Don't know if this is the date of the picture or the age of Maria Eliza.

Any information for Maria Eliza will be greatly appreciated.

Mary Read

Would like to find any info on Robert Lang, who was in Pemiscot County, Missouri in 1918. He may have been married to Emma Lee Malone Jones and was widowed in 1918. He died 1940-1950's, probably in Missouri, maybe Arkansas. Emma was my grandpa's(Robert Lee Blackard) mother. Grandpa was a baby, or may not have yet been born when they married. He was raised by his mother's family after her death. Robert Blackard last saw Robert Lang just before Lang's death. Robert Lang's children from his last marraige (who?) may have met grandpa, Robert Blackard. Any clues would be great!! Thanks, Rebecca Moss

Baby was baptized in the St.Bonifas Catholic Church in Elgin, NE. William Walter is looking for his birth mother, Margaret/Mythilda as he was given up for adoption. Would like to know when and where she is buried. There seems to be a discrepancy in the first name as to whether she was Margaret or Mythilda. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know what the extra initial "J." is for, but it appears several places. He fought in the Civil War for a brief time. Lived in Illinois for 10 years or so before moving to Kansas ca. 1879. Had children named Thomas, James Melroy, John, Sara, Margaret, Anna Rebecca, among others. Any help or clue appreciated. Thanks!

I am looking for information on a Lang family living in Albany (Albany area) in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Louis Lang was my great grandfather. He was born around 1885 and married Helen. They lived in Albany and Delmar (the Town of Bethlehem). He had a brother named Arthur. Arthur married May and they had a child Anna May. Also, I have a picture of the brothers behind the bar of a saloon. I have not been able to get information on this "bar".
Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you!

I am searching for information on my 3rd great grandfather. The only information I have on him is that he went to Virgil, Kansas from Kentucky. At that time his wife was already deceased and I have no information on her either. The story is that John was forced to flee Kentucky after killing his neighbor over a boundry dispute (and the fact the neighbor had killed his dog). John is buried in Quincy, Greenwood, KS. Any information or help will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely with many thanks,
Rena

Bronx NY Carl Lang 1890's

Carl Lang married Mary (Maria) Snyder probably in the 1880s in New York. This is judged by the birth date of their son, Edward, March 8, 1890. Mary was 27 years old by then. We assume that she may have emigrated with the family in 1882 or 1883. Mary Snyder and Carl Lang had five sons, Charles, John, Joseph, Edward and Frank Lang. Mary and Carl may have lived in New Haven, Connecticut, but they were primarily in the Bronx, New York. Mary Snyder is our great great aunt.

William F Lang b 1888 married Ella Rosetta Crosby b 1884 Gardi/Brunswick GA

Looking for descendants of Willie F Lang and wife Ella Crosby Lang. Ella was from Wayne Co, GA, dau of Mitchell Crosby and Appie Thornton.Ella b abt 1884. Will and Ella married abt 1910 in Wayne Co, Gardi area. They had 4 children that I know of: Chauncey b abt 1913; George W. b abt 1915; Alice b abt 1916; Evelin b abt 1920. Am hoping to find some descendants of their children who might share family info with me and perhaps photo of Willie and Ella. Ella was the sister of my maternal Grandmother, Sally (Sarah) Crosby, who married Dalton H Knight. Sally and Dalton moved to Fla in early 1930's. Sally my grandmother told me she and Grandpa Dalton shared a home at one time with Ella and Will Lang. Grandpa Dalton and Will were best friends. She said the house they shared, was haunted and told me stories about many ghostly encounters they had while staying there, one incident involving the child, Chauncey who crawled underneath the house and found where some buried treasure was supposed to be. A ghost guarded the treasure and would chase everyone who came near it. It also made its presence known in the house rattling dishes and silverware. My grandmother was a devout Christian woman and she swore on the bible this story was true. Would love to find one of Chauncey Lang's grandchildren, see if they know this story too. Anyone who can help, please advise. I suspect the Lang children probably stayed in the Brunswick, Glynn Co, GA area. If anyone can scan the Lang families out of a phone book in Brunswick, please email to me at NighthawkOhio@aol.com Thanks, Chris in Ohio

LANG, GEORGE CHARLES; Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient VIETNAM

LANG, GEORGE C.

Rank and organization: Specialist Fourth Class, U.S. Army, Company A, 4th Battalion, 47th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division. place and date: Kien Hoa province, Republic of Vietnam, 22 February 1969. Entered service at: Brooklyn, N.Y. Born: 20 April 1947, Flushing, N.Y . Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sp4c. Lang, Company A, was serving as a squad leader when his unit, on a reconnaissance-in-force mission, encountered intense fire from a well fortified enemy bunker complex. Sp4c. Lang observed an emplacement from which heavy fire was coming. Unhesitatingly, he assaulted the position and destroyed it with hand grenades and rifle fire. Observing another emplacement approximately 15 meters to his front, Sp4c. Lang jumped across a canal, moved through heavy enemy fire to within a few feet of the position, and eliminated it, again using hand grenades and rifle fire. Nearby, he discovered a large cache of enemy ammunition. As he maneuvered his squad forward to secure the cache, they came under fire from yet a third bunker. Sp4c. Lang immediately reacted, assaulted his position, and destroyed it with the remainder of his grenades. After returning to the area of the arms cache, his squad again came under heavy enemy rocket and automatic weapons fire from 3 sides and suffered 6 casualties. Sp4c. Lang was 1 of those seriously wounded. Although immobilized and in great pain, he continued to direct his men until his evacuation was ordered over his protests. The sustained extraordinary courage and selflessness exhibited by this soldier over an extended period of time were an inspiration to his comrades and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Army.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Westbury, New York

Cemetery: Holy Rood Cemetery

Born: 1947 at Flushing, NY

Died: 2005

Source, additional information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_go/lang_...

Note: This is not my ancestry.
Will Anna Margaretha Rueckert Lang's real father please stand up?

Anna Margaretha Reuckert Lang was born roughly 1865 in Bavaria, Germany (then Prussia I believe). She was apparently adopted by Johann Christoph Lang when he swooped in and married Anna's mother Regina Barbara Rueckert (who was not married to Anna Margaretha's real father).

Family lore suggests that the real father is Georg or George Oppelt who was born sometime around 1835. I know he resided in Germany (Prussia at the time I believe), probably in or near Bavaria. Does anyone have information on such a man or on this situation?

Am looking for information for my 2GR grandmother Maria Eliza Lang, born 19 Sep 1808, either New Hampshire or Maine. (Another researcher had Maria's birth date, but no other information.) The 1850 Maine Census has her birthplace as New Hampshire; the 1860 Maine census has her born in Maine.

She married William Coggins about 1824, probably in Maine; their first son was born in Lubec, Maine. I have information on her husband and her children. Just need the names--and dates--of her parents, siblings, etc. Would appreciate any help. Thank you.
