No, I'm afraid not. James Langdon is my ggg grandfather - his son, James O. born 1834 in Ohio; Joseph O. born 1866 in Illinois, then my grandfather, Ewell born 1896 in Arkansas. My father was born in Arkansas 1924; my brother 1958 in Louisiana, and his son born 2003, the only one to continue the name. How do you relate to the family?

Thomas O. Langdon 1889 & Jessie Rankin Sweezey 1894 – Canada, Michigan

Any information would be greatly appreciated on Thomas O. Langdon born about 1889, possibly in Ottawa and his wife Jessie Rankin Sweezey, born Aug.24, 1894 in Verner, Ontario. Thomas and Jessie moved to Michigan in 1926. The 1930 USA federal census shows Thomas (electrician/contractor) and Jessie in Pontiac, Oakland, Michigan with son Donald (6yrs. old), step-daughter Margaret M. McGillis (15 yrs. old) and mother-in-law Margaret Jane (Edwards) Sweezey (67 yrs. old). Family obituaries from 1937-1967, show Jessie and Thomas as living in Ottawa. Thomas O. Langdon’s parents could be George Langdon & Martha Robbins Langdon. Martha was born about 1864 in Canada.
P.R.
Re: Looking for Langdon ancestor's

The only Langdon info I have in my tree is concerning my ancestor Mary E Langdon b. 24 Sept 1816 and d. 1903. Her parents were Issac Langdon b. 12 April 1773/8 and Elizabeth Gresham b. 4 Dec 1777. Some sources say that they had another daughter named Eliza 20 July 1817; however one source said to be from the Chronicles of Wilkes Co pg 315 says Mary Langdon, daughter of Issac Langdon was the only child and her parents died when she was very young. Issac Langdon's parents may have been John Langdon and wife Mary B. Mary E Langdon, 1816, and Simeon Cunningham Ellington, b.10 May 1808 d.1882, were married on 6 Dec 1831. They were born, lived, and died in Wilkes County, Georgia. They had 11 children. I don't know if there is any link to your family, but I hope this will help you in your search. I will be on the lookout for more info. Please let me know if you find any info or connection for my Langdon's because I am anxious to find out more about my Mary E. Langdon's ancestors. Thank you and God bless you in your search. Ginny New Dean

Do you have any connection to Mary E. Langdon 24 Sept 1816; Eliza 20 July 1817 whose parents were Issac Langdon 12 April 1773/1778 and Elizabeth Gresham 4 Dec 1777 who lived in Wilkes Co., Georgia? One source suggested Issac's parents may be John and Mary B. Langdon, but I am not sure of that at all. Another article in the Chronicles of Wilkes Co. Pg 315 says Mary Langdon, daughter of Issac Langdon, was the only child and her parents died when she was very young. If that is true, I don't know how Eliza fits in. My Mary Langdon married Simeon Cunningham Ellington on 6 Dec 1831. Simeon was born 10 May 1805. If you find any connections to or info on these Langdon's please let me know. If I find any info on your Samuel Langdon, I'll contact you again. Thank you very much. Ginny New Dean

Hello Graeme,
Thank you so much for taking the time to check this out, and post some answers for me. My Langdon/Flewellen line was a difficult one to check, and it was only last year, that I finally put it all in order, thanks to some help from a kind lady in England (Landon line) two distant ‘relis’ in New Zealand and England - (Flewellen) , without whose wonderful help I would probably still be looking. In particular, the Flewellyn (New Zealand) line ended up being the final barrier, but that too has now been sorted.
If you are researching either this Langdon or Flewellen line, please email me (heathgrae at bigpond dot com) (I’m sure you can work that out.) and I can give you quite a bit of info. Hilda Blanche Poolman was actually my G. Grandmother, my Grandfather being one of her sons - Ernest Leslie Flewellen.
Cheers,
Heather
Hi Heather

After a few yrs of your query sitting here I think Ive found your answer.

James and Sarah Jane Flewellen, after bringing up four boys in Williton - Henry James b.1853, William Langon b.abt 1855, Sydenham James b.abt 1860 and Robert b.1864, Emmigrated to New Zealand with or about the same time as Henry, Sydenham and Robert.

Their surname in most records (official and general) changed to Flewellyn.

William appears to have gone to Victoria, Australia.

James and Sarah Jane died in NZ in 1898 & 1899 respectively.

Sydenham went by the name Sydney James

And as you will probably already know Robert left NZ and move to Australia, Where he married Hilda Blanch Poolman.

I could look into it some but it would take quite a while as I have a number of other projects going on right now.

Ginny. An interesting tidbit. Her first name looks like Myronida, which is a female version of an Athenian general Myronides. Ofilia is also greek origin meaning "help". Can't make out the middle, but maybe one can assume it is greek also? Looks like "_cota" or "_eota" or the t could be an l. I think Frank and Maria probably read Greek history. Will keep looking for that middle name.

My uncle only had info on Alba, Elsie and Brotis as children of Frank and Maria, but then he didn't have access to what we can get now. I've let my subscription lapse but will pick it up soon.
I'M SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION RE: MY PATERNAL GREAT GRANDMA. HER NAME WAS CATHERINE LANGDON (MARRIED NAME) BORN IN OHIO 1877 (OR ABOUT). SHE HAD A DAUGHTER, LALA, WHOSE LAST NAME WAS KRIDER -- NOT SURE IF CATHERINE WAS MARRIED OR NOT WHEN SHE HAD HER. OR, IT COULD BE ROY LANGDON WHO WAS LALA'S FATHER AND HE CARED FOR HER INSTEAD OF LALA'S MOTHER. I HAVE NO CLUE IF FATHERS DID THAT BACK IN 1903. LALA HAD A BROTHER, NILES, BORN 1911 IN OHIO (PROBABLY TOLEDO). I'M LOOKING FOR INFO REGARDING ANY OF THESE PPL. THANKS SO MUCH, IN ADVANCE.
LINDA TUCKER LA LONDE

Right, she would have been married TWICE before, because Lee King and Lala Krider were both Roy's step-children. My grandmother (Lala) named her second son, Lee -- which I find very interesting. Because of the fact my grandmother (Lala) flat out refused to give any info re: her family can only lead me to believe she MAY have been illetimate. If this is so, HOW does one find records? I'm new to this. Thanks for your reply.

Langdon would have been a married name. I'm not sure what her maiden name was. May have been King. She had 2 children prior to marrying Roy Langdon -- a boy, Lee King and a daughter, Lala Krider -- who was my paternal grandmother. Relatives asked my grandmother many times about her family and she REFUSED to give any info, which leads me to believe she MAY have been illetimate. And then I found the older brother, Lee King and now I don't know WHAT to think. LOL At one time, they (Catherine and Langdon) lived in Tiffin, OHIO. Thanks for your reply.

It's been a while since your post, but thought I would see if you have found anything out. I have a William Lansdon,Lansdowne, Langsdon, Langdon [pick a spelling!] b. 1761 to a John Langsdon and Frances Worley. Frances Worley was the daughter of William Worley. These people were originally from the Powhatan county area of Virginia. After the Rev War, members of these families scattered to the winds. The names are so similar, there might be a connection somewhere for you.

Charles LANGSDON born c1830 SC>Genesee, Whiteside County, IL

I recently found an old envelope that Charles LANGDON (LONGSDON?) of Coleta (Genesee), Whiteside County, IL received from Manchester, England in 1878. You can see the envelope on www.philgen.org (search on Whiteside, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page). The 1870 and 1880 censuses of Genesee, IL show that Charles was born in SC, but that his parents were born in England. Does anyone have information that Charles's parents were born in/near Manchester?

Here is a direct link to the photo of the envelope: http://www.philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=for...

The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy and have started the philgen website. I do not know if the letter that was in the envelope still exists.

Please let me know what you think.
Thanks, Jim Miller
DNA Langdon project temporary price reduction

We just received word that Family Tree DNA is offering reduced kit prices for the next two weeks. The prices expire 31 August 2008, at 11:59 CST. There are several ways to save, as you can see from the list below.

1. Y-DNA12 orders include a FREE mtDNA test (Y-DNA12+mtDNA promotion price of $99; normally $189)
2. Y-DNA25 orders include a FREE mtDNA test (Y-DNA25+mtDNA promotion price of $148; normally $238)
3. Y-DNA37 orders price REDUCED to $119 (normally $189)
4. Y-DNA37+mtDNAPlus orders price REDUCED to $189 (normally $339)
5. Y-DNA67+mtDNAPlus orders price REDUCED to $288 (normally $409)
6. mtDNAPlus price REDUCED to $149 (normally $189)

If you have considered joining the Langdon surname project, or if you want to sponsor someone else, this is a great time to do so. The Y-DNA 37 marker test at $119 is very attractive. If you have studied the Langdon & variants results so far, you will see that when 37 markers are tested you begin to easily sort out the various family groups. As we get more participants, we will be able to help more of you who have brick walls in your ancestry.

Go to http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Langdon/ and click on "Request to Join this Group". Then click on "I want to purchase a test to join this project." The box for "Type of Test" allows you to choose the items you want - just click on the arrow.

Don't miss this opportunity!
He married, Mar. 12, 1788, Jane Everett, who was born July 10, 1771, and who died Dec. 1, 1844. Samuel Langdon died June 19, 1822. They are buried in the old Friends' Cemetery in Queensbury. Their tombstones are probably the oldest there. Samuel and Jane Langdon had Twelve Children as follows, all born at Langdon's Corners, Washington County, N. Y."...

Hi
I am descended from Nicholas Langdon who was another son of John Langdon and Jane (Jenny) Waters, born in 1830. He migrated to Australia around 1848, supposedly to bring out some horses for two of his brothers (believed to be John and Joseph) who had come out earlier and were living in Victoria near Ballarat. Despite a promise to mother to return to England within a year, he never did.
I would love to hear from you.
Robert Paterson, Sydney, Australia

This is what I have on a Langdon family:

I.B. Langdon, b. abt. 1854, married Nancy. C.? MS
children:
Dora B. Langdon b. 26 Jan 1876 MS, d. Newton Co., MS 06 Mar 1961 married Daniel Henry Sephton. Their daughter Katie Sephton married Johnnie Richard Price, son of Wiley Palmer Price and Martha A. Davidson of Leake Co. MS. Most of the family are buried in High Hill Baptist Ch. Cem., in Neshoba Co. in the "Four Corners" area, where Neshoba, Leake, Newton, and Scott counties meet. Those surnames were mostly from there.
If you are interested in any more info let me know and email me at :
irishsetterlady2002@yahoo.com

Shelly Belk
