Hi, Looking for info on Peter H. Lange from Denmark. He had 6 or 7 sons all with the middle name of Peterson and born in the US. Some dropped the 'e'. I have 5 names so far: John, Lewis & Marshall stayed in Missouri. George Lang went to Ca. and Peter Lange to Texas. John Lange is my gr-grandfather from Joplin, Mo. He had only one child that I know of Erma R. Lange who married Wilford Cogbill.
Our Lange line has lost contact with our cousins and would love to re-connect if you are related.

Kerry

I can't find a specific connection between your Langes and mine, but the location and similarity of first names suggests there may be one out there. My great grandfather was Wilhelm Lange born in Plymouth, WI in April 1871 (in his later years he moved to Kaukauna). His baptismal certificate indicates his parents were Friedrich Lange and Lena (Helena) Metzner (or Mesner). Not sure why her last name was not Lange, but the coincidental same first name between her and your Lange is interesting. Wilhelm had 5 sisters Mary Lange Wandersleben, Anna Lange Gosse, Louisa Lange Freutel, Minnie Lange Knoepfel, and Mrs. Henry Lange Ford. Please let me know if any of this is connected to your tree. Thanks

Obituary indicates he immigrated alone with his mother.

Draft card shows closest nearest relative as Augustine Josephine Lange - not sure if this is a relative?

Married Augusta Jacomet and had four children.

Died 1930 in Traverse County, MN. Death certificate lists father as August Lange, no luck finding records for this name either.

If anyone could help with his parents name I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Yes, it is quite a coincidence that we each have a Lange-Bruns family from Germany. However, I had help from a German genealogist several years ago, who said that Bruns was a very common name. Nevertheless, Bruns does not appear on this list of the 50 most common German names, while Lange is #25 and Lang is #47:

http://german.about.com/od/germanicgenealogy/a/50surnames.ht...

Casey

Josephine Lange b. Koln, Germany 8 Mar 1909 m. Asbury Park, NJ 5 Oct 1929

I had a grandmother, Josephine Lange, who (according to family history) was born near Dusseldorf/Koln (Cologne area), in Germany on March 8, 1909. She had a natural sister named Henrietta and some half/step-siblings, among whom were William (Willhelm?) and Sophie. Family legend states that William Lange was a pastry chef on the Kaiser’s yacht prior to his abdication.

She was brought over from Germany at around age 7 and was adopted by her “aunt” Marie Lange, who was married to Louis P. Croce from Milan Italy. They lived in Asbury Park, New Jersey in 1920, along with William Lange, who had immigrated a few years earlier. Louis P Croce was a soda manufacturer/bottler in Asbury Park.

Sophie Lange and her husband, Raymond, also lived in Asbury Park. It is not known when or how Sophie or Henrietta got to the US.

Josephine also had aunts (siblings of Marie Lange) named Martha and Bertha and possibly some uncles named Fredrick and Henry.

Josephine married Harold Thompson Horner from Bradley Beach/Freehold on October 5, 1929 and, by 1930, they lived in Brielle, where they had a son (my father – born 8/29/1930) who is still living.

There are some names in her family bible that are missing details:

Greta Kinzenbach
Fredrick Karl Kinzenbach
Margaretha Johanna Waldschmidt

It is believed that Greta may have been Josephine’s grandmother. Frederick and Margaretha are believed to have been Greta’s parents.

Throughout her life, she was amazingly vague and reticent about her past. She spoke German and corresponded with an Ursula Schreiber in Germany, but never admitted to it. She also told me once that her name may have been changed from something like Langa or Langer.

I am unable to find a single record prior to 1920 that pertains to Josephine Lange (or any of the other Langes).

Please let me know if you can help me...
Re: Henry Lange and Sophie Lange

I have a Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Lange who married a Marie Sophie Louise Möhlenpage. I think these are my great grandparents. Their kids were:

Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich (Wilhelm or William)
Minna Louise Henriette (Henrietta)
Sophie Louise (Sophie)
August Friedrich Wilhelm (Friedrich)
Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm (Heinrich)
Hermann Hienrich (not sure who this is)
Emma (aka Josephine, probably my grandmother)
Ludwig Hienrich (no idea who this is)

What makes it difficult is that Germans usually called someone by their second (and sometimes third) name. First names were often disregarded and/or "forgotten".

Check out:

http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/person.aspx?pid=-1157248834&amp...

and see if it helps.

From what I know of my family, they all emigrated separately to the USA from 1911 to 1918. Some were "adopted" by aunts and uncles when they arrived, further complicating the issue. For example, William and Josephine were adopted by an "Aunt Sophie" and uncle Louis P. Croce. Was this, in reality, her real mother and a stepfather who later adopted her?

I too have a Lange-Bruns family who came to the US from Germany in the mid-1800s. Both names are probably very common, but it may be worth noting:

Heinrich and Christina (BRUNS) LANGE/LONG came to NY, then to OH in 1844. The Family Register at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Danbury, Ottawa Co., OH list them as follows:

LANGE, Heinrich of Hannover, born 1803, died 14 Feb 1847.
Christina nee BRUNS of Hannover, born --- (unfinished).
Married in Germany 29 Oct 1829; the family left here 29 Aug 1846. Children:
1) Friedrich, born 28 Oct 1829; farmer
2) Wilhelmine, born 7 Apr 1832
3) Ludwig, born 25 Jul 183
4) Heinrich, born 15 Oct 1836 <-- My ancestor >
5) Georg, born 19 Dec 1838
6) Wilhelm, born 7 May 1842
7) Christian Johann, born 12 Sep 1845

By the 1850 census, they were listed as LONGs, and Christina was a widow. After their mother died, Frederick, Henry and Lewis moved to Bureau Co. IL in 1856.

I have verified that this family came to NY from Hanover on Ship Emma in 1844, but have not been able to locate them in Germany.
Lange South Africa

My grandfather was Frederick Leopold Lange (born 01.04.1890 died 20.08.1948) - he married Elizabeth Johanna Christina Austin (born 25.08.1894, died 27.01.1971). They both died in South Africa, however, legend has it that my grandfather had a brother and that they both came from South West Africa (or Namibia as it is now called) to South Africa? Any information would be most welcome.
Hello,
I am not sure if this will help but I am related to (2) Beatrice Lange women. My Grandmother's sister is named Beatrice Lange and now resides in Florida. She was born in the early 1900's. Her mother's name is also Beatrice Lange and passed away when they were very young. So my grandmother's sister Beatrice probably did reside in Massachusetts some years ago as did my grandmother. I have family members who are still in close contact with her. Her nickname is Betty. If you think this is the person you are looking for you may email me. melodypaul32@yahoo.com

I'm trying to trace the family farther back and I believe the name was either misspelled during the Census or changed from Osmore.
