This photo is identified as Bertie Leon Langford, Mother's Brother. I believe this is Bertie Langford 1884-1920, the son of John Thomas Langford b. 1859 and Sarah Elmira Jones b. 1857.

Bertie is wearing a tweed jacket, a white stiff collared shirt, a striped skinny bow tie, and has his hair parted down the middle. I believe the photo dates 1900 or so.

I am not related, but I would like to connect this photo with a family member or family researcher.

Please contact me if you have an interest in this photo.

Kathy@FamilyWeSearch.com

UK National Archives...for when your tree bogs down in UK in the 1600 or so!!! WOW!

Below are just a few of the UK national archives documents I found for 1660-1770 using "Langford" as the search term, while trying to flush out William Langford's parents.

Just read them and you can see that these are a treasure trove of info on who was married to who. Who was parents of different individuals and where people lived, etc.

I just thought I'd pass on this great resource for others to use: http://nationalarchives.gov.uk. These particular entries were found in the a2a (parish records), which is not an actual part of the archives, but is reachable from links to it there.

Consider the following entries and their possible help they offer in researching your ancestors over in the UK!!!
Dear Fellow Researchers,

I know that there are only but a few researchers that actively participate on message boards, mailing lists, etc. I know that there are varying degrees of Genealogy skill among all researchers. Some of you that may read this board may never want to post anything, which is of course your choice.

We find ourselves in a new era genealogical collaboration. If you a new, intermediate or advanced researcher alike, our active group of Langford/Lankford researchers could really use your help in taking ALL of our research to a higher level.

The only thing holding any of use back however is the need for more willing researchers.

If you are just a casual reseacher that views the page every once and awhile, please come forward and share a little bit with us. It is quite likely we can not only help you, but you can help us as well. We are beginning to get a pretty good handle on the ancestor's of ours, but WE need YOU to picth in and learn a little more about the Langford/Lankford ancestry.

You may have a copy of a marriage document, a land deed, a family photograph, etc. This single document could be a huge clue for another researcher.

The other predominant technology of this generation is using the science of DNA testing combined with traditional documented research to combine more lines, thus allowing a better end result.

The bottom line is: We all need your interaction in order for all of us to succeed.

Thank you for your time and hopefully we will be hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
Jeff Davis (son of a Langford mother)

I am researching the family tree of Henry Francis Langford (Thayer) born 5/28/1856. Married Mary Jane Reise (could be Reese not sure). Had a son Arthur Langford Thayer born 1891. I have been given by a family member that Henry's father is Henry John Langford born ???. Mother is Harriet Amanda Sanderson born 2/9/1836 died 5/18/1900. Harriet's 1st husband was Henry John married 12/24/1854 father of Henry Francis. Her 2nd husband was William Wild Thayer marrid 2/14/1859. It is believed that Henry Francis went by surname THAYER. This is where I have run into a brick wall. Does anyone have information on Henry Francis?????

Thomas Langford, Elizabeth Thompson-Albemarle County, VA

Does anyone out there have any idea who Thomas Langford's parents were? He married Elizabeth Thompson, daughter of Robert and Jane Thompson and probably married in Albemarle Co, VA as that is where the Thompsons were from.
Elizabeth was born in the 1740's so Thomas was probably was born between 1735-1745. They had a son, Jonathan Langford who married Susanna Epperson, daughter of David and Hannah Thompson Epperson. Hannah was a sister to Elizabeth Thompson Langford. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dawne, I am not sure that I sent this. I don't remember hitting the post button. If it is a repeat, please forgive me. :-)
Your Great grandmother Carrie B. Imes Langford, is the daughter of Esau Imes-b, abt 1846 and d. 1907. He was the son of John Imes Jr. b. 1816 and d 1854. Esau is your GG grandfather and John Imes Jr is your GGG grandfather. What we have in common is your GGGG grandfather--John Imes Sr. b.1775 and d in 1871. It gets complicated. John Imes Sr. was my GGG grandfather. John Imes Jr . your GGG grandfather was the older brother of my GG grandfather. This was mostly in Pennsylvania. It was Esau who went to Mississippi and married Catherine Ingram from Watson, Miss.

Imeslad9

Delila Lankford/Langford

Hello - I am researching my great x 4 Grandmother - Delila Langford. She was one of William Langford and Sallie King's 13 children. There are many stories and photos that indicate Delila may have been of Native American Indian descent and that she may have been adopted by the Langfords as a child - perhaps from one of the many native american indians fleeing the area at the time. Her birthdate is listed in several sites as September 1819. Has anyone heard any of these stories or have a lead on how I could verify who Delila really was? She married Levi Zumwalt in Warren County Missouri (date unclear). THANK YOU. Beth

HELP with a Langford dead end

I need some help as I seem to have run into a dead end. I have been able to trace my line back to Stephen Marion Langford born in TN in 1827 and married Elizabeth Slover in Dandridge TN in 1847. Migrated to Missouri between 1850 and 1853 and died in Caldwell County in 1862.

I have had absolutely no luck finding Stephen Marion Langford's siblings or parents but I suspect this line came to TN from SC but I have nothing but a hunch to support that theory.

If anyone has any information they can share that might provide the missing link I would appreciate it.

I was just wondering if more Langford researchers are considering this avenue for their research? It is beginning to get some great momentum and in my opinion, could really help out a great deal for us researchers trudging through the 1700's Langford soup of the Carolina's and Virginia.

I would just like to know what other researcher's thoughts are on the science of DNA combining with the power of traditional documented research. Thank you in advance for any of your thoughts.

Lan(g/k)fords in the War of 1812

For those not aware, Mary Ann Tyre pointed out earlier this morning, Ancestry.com now has an index for War of 1812 Pension and Bounty Land Warrants. I ordered one of these files for a key Langford ancestor about 2 years ago. Mary Ann has truly spotted an OUTSTANDING genealogical source in this index. These files can be extremely rich in data. The one for my ancestor, Benjamin D. Lankford, contained information on both of his marriages, a marriage certificate, date and place of birth, etc. These are real gems. Rumor has it that NARA is about to increase the cost of processing these in the near future, so if you have a Langford/Lankford ancestor in this era, NOW is the time. Nice find Mary Ann.

Happy hunting all,
Jeff Davis

First and foremost, Linda Langford-Odom, if you are out there, please drop me an e-mail. I am your second cousin.

Having said that, my GGG Grandfather, Benjamin D. Lankford was supposedly born abt. 1795 in Warren County, NC. My GG Grandfather, Dr. Richard Irvin, was born April 1846 in Warren County, KY. MY G Grandfather was Everett Langford who was born April 1890 in Butler County, KY. I am trying to tie John Langford, born abt. 1775 in Warren County, NC and George Langford born October 1704 in Gloucester County, VA in the picture. A 71 year old man having off spring seems very unlikely. Is there anyone who help? Please.

Sincerely,

Jeff

Langford family - Island of Antigua, New Bern NC-1760s

Hello list,
I have found a couple of Langford names in researching my ancestor, John Scott of New Bern NC, who was a shipwright. His will was witnessed by a Hannah Langford Oct. 1764 on the island of Antigua,BWI. The old Antego map, cartographer Herman Moll, shows a Langford family on the island early 1700s, probably a sugar cane plantation. Also previous to this in 1761 one other person on board the ship my ancestor sailed on to Antigua witnessed a will in 1761 for one Edward Langford, merchant of New Bern. Does anyone have any information about either Langford persons? I can only guess my ancestor knew both in the business of trading between Antigua and the American colonies.

Matthew LAngford who married MArgaret (peggy) Nelson and Stepehn LAngford were sons of Eli Langford. There was a relaionship of some kind between Henry and Eli unsure if it was a Brother or if Henry was the uncle as they both appear in GA. Franklin Co land deeds 1785. by 1790 ELi was in SC and disappears by 1820 so will assume he has passed away. Benjamin was a cousin to Matthew and Stephen as he did witness some land Deeds in South Carolina.
Matthew and wife ended their life in Ark. Stepehn by 1820 was living in Jackson Co TN. Source for claiming they were sons of Elis is a land deed in Jackson Co TN. dated 1814.
Henry also had a son named Henry whos will can be found on line.
Questions?
Need help! Seeking father of Richard Langford, b. 1772, VA; d. 1860, AL

I am desperately looking for the father/parents of Richard Langford. He is my 4th-great grandfather. My lineage goes as follows:

Father - John Hughes Langford; Grandfather - William Alexander(Bill)Langford; Great-Grandfather - Charles A.(Charlie/Charley)Langford; 2nd Great-Grandfather - Henry Lee Langford; 3rd Great-Grandfather - Henry Norman Langford; and then, 4th Great-Grandfather - Richard Langford.

Richard was born in 1772 in Hanover, VA. Married Amelia Soper (dau. of Zadock Soper) in Maryland in 1801. They had numerous children, including Henry Norman, Ann Turner, Martha, John T., Albert G., Elizabeth, Camilla, & Rutha Ann, Resided in Maryland and also, Washington, DC before settling in Georgia, in close proximity to Euclid Langford and wife, Elizabeth. After Euclid's death, served in various copacities to his widow, Elizabeth. At this time, there was also a Henry Langford in the same area, who had been born in VA, married a Nancy Patterson in 1809 and died in 1819. I cannot prove any relation to this Henry or to Euclid/Elizabeth - only speculating. Richard then settled in Alabama, near Loachapoka, on former Creek Indian land I believe was granted to him by the gov't. Richard served in the Maryland Militia, Extra Battalion during the War of 1812. He also worked in some capacity, building/rebuilding the Capitol Building in Washington, DC, during early 1800s. His second wife was Nancy Heath, married in Geogia in 1824. They also had numerous children, including Samuel T. Richard, Amenda E. N., William J., Robert Watts, Amanda M., & Ann Elizabeth. he died in 1860 in Loachapoka, Alabama, & is buried in the Loachapoka Cemetery.

I need any help that I can get! Thanks so much. I can be reached at tonjohl@excite.com

I am searching for the father of Richard Langford who was born 1772, Hanover, VA. Died 1860 - near Loachapoka, AL. First Wife - Amelia Soper; Second wife - Nancy Heath. Had numerous children with each wife. Fought in War of 1812. Worked in some way rebuilding the U. S. Capitol Building during its reconstruction period of 1815-1819. Lived in Maryland, Georgia, and Alabama. Some relation to Elizabeth Langford, widow of Euclid. I descend from his son Henry Norman, Henry Norman's son Henry Lee, Henry Lee's son Charles A.(born in Leake Co, MS) who was my great-grandfather. His son William Alexander (also born Leake Co., MS) was my granddaddy and my father was John Hughes (born Panola County, TX). I am desperate for a lead and any help that I can get will be greatly appreciated. Other prominent family lines include Moore, Sauls, Little, Phipps, Curbo, Minshew. Thanks!
